: Help! Did i screw up my tranny ?
I just got my Evo X GSR yesterday. When I was shifting, i didn't step on the clutch deep enough and i heard a hard sound of gear crashing each other. I immediately push on the clutch deeper and put the gear to N. This happens once a while when i was practicing manual on the other car. But this is a new car and the sound makes me scared. That was a careless mistake and i just want to know will that cause severe damage to my clutch and tranny or is it okay if it only happens once.
dcasandman 01-05-2010, 05:40 PM Should be fine. Every once in awhile I miss shift or grind a gear.
px.evo 01-05-2010, 05:52 PM Thats it, you screwed up your car. Just sign the title over to me now as it is totaled now.

Thanks Man!
SiliconTek 01-05-2010, 06:20 PM Don't worry about it, it happens to the best of us. If you can remember or if you were around back then, the old trannies without synchro's. The semi drivers and small trucks practically scrambled eggs every shift when they got the rev match wrong and they still got tens of thousands of miles out of them. Just try to avoid it...
Storm_trooper 01-05-2010, 06:23 PM you know what really grinds my gears ?....

Happens once in a while. you will be fine.

on older semis and trucks, you were able to shift with out even pushing in the clutch!

Lol yeah that too!
Ttsumibishi 01-05-2010, 06:27 PM New to manual? No worries. Try not to though as it doesn't help anything..lol :)
SiliconTek 01-05-2010, 06:31 PM Not to mention trying to learn to heal-toe and getting the timing wrong :freak:
Google some idiots on Youtube that miss second on the drag strip, sounds like someone put some rocks in a blender that's already running.
AMI CUSTOMS 01-05-2010, 07:59 PM This happens to my evo X almost everyday when it is cold going into 3rd, I get a little crunch and I don't think anything about it anymore, after it is warmed up, it is smooth as butter.

Excalibur 01-05-2010, 08:06 PM Just be more careful when shifting not to grind the gears.

lol, my buddy use to do that in his rsx all the time, i never felt the need to try it
clipse3gs 01-06-2010, 02:37 PM I dont use my clutch alot when going from 3rd to 4th in my evo cause the gears slide in with no problems. My dad taught me how to do it years back since he is a truck driver and uses a clutch only to start the truck rolling. Its fairely easy but it takes time to get it perfect.
In my 3G eclipse sometimes i managed to barely use the clutch :) throughout a day which put me at the position of doing 100k on the clutch with over 3 season of autocross and that clutch is still going without slipping.
Sometimes it also comes handy. I remember when in one of my friend's Mazda MX6 the cluth line with fluid broke and she had no clutch. I started the gear from the first gear and drover on the highway and streets with no clutch (30 miles trip) saving her bunch of money on towing and crap.

my rsx used to this all the time if driving it hard and slamming it on 3rd gear. Its embarrassing lol.
kelvar13 01-06-2010, 03:41 PM reminds me of the time i broke the clutch lever on my bike and had to ride it home from blacksburg, va to NOVA (about 4hrs). Had to push the bike to slow speed, shift to first then upshift/downshift without the clutch. Starts were the worst but luckily the majority of the trip was highway and only 1 fuel stop.
