: I don't know if this happened w/the XIII/IX...
Ragnarok7 02-11-2008, 02:46 AM But reading the forums for the past few months now, I've noticed, IMO, a surprising number of people asking, what I think are, the most basic questions in car mechanics. Now by no means am I a mechanical wiz-kid or something, but people asking things like how to change the oil or even what "octane fuel" is, is at times astounding how many people know nothing of how something they use almost everyday works. I'm not trying to bash on the people I've addressed here, I'm actually (for lack of a better word) congratulating you on taking the first steps to educating yourselves on a very important piece of your lives. My point here is that the Evo X is doing more than simply make people want it because it's cool. The X is turning people into true car enthusiasts rather than simple owners. I've just said some pretty corny shit, but I still think it's worth one more notch in the Evo's already impressive belt.

You make a very good point that I think very few people have touched on. I believe a lot of people, non car enthusiasts, will buy this car because it looks cool or it comes with a auto tran, but later, they will find the Evo X is actually more than just a cool looking car, but a rather dynamic car that appeals to both the general public and tuners.
Meero 02-11-2008, 02:55 AM The Evo has a history now unlike the VIII or IX. There's a following that has multiplied and a rivalry fed by the STi.
It's the stuff Icons are made of!!!
PDXEvo 02-11-2008, 03:22 AM Everyone has to start somewhere. Most people just drive their cars without any knowledge of what is happening under the hood. However, with the Evo, when people go do their standard forum search, they end up running into the tuner crowd, not just the nav happy, driver crowd of yore. Because of this, I believe this is why you will see some basic questions being asked.
Kooldino 02-11-2008, 04:49 AM I hope this forum brings some fresh blood and plenty of knowledge to a new generation of tuners.
wayne0912 02-11-2008, 02:32 PM I believe the OP was referring to my post and I apologize for sounding like a retard. I will be the first to admit that I'm not a big car enthusiasts with my old car. All I know how to do is put the cheapest gas I can find into when it's empty and take it in to have it serviced at regular intervals. However, when I was researching to make my purchase for the evo, I found a lot of forums(including this one) where people seems to be genuinely interested in knowing everthing about their cars. This made me want to learn everything about my new car as well instead of just what I did with my old. I will search more in the future before asking more questions.

There is no reason to apoligize to anyone here or anywhere else. Like I said, I'm giving you the highest praise I can as one enthusiast to another. You've done what a lot of people are too lazy/unconcerned with to do, and that's learn something new.

The Unfortunate Truth.
Gumbö 02-12-2008, 12:41 PM I have always openly admitted I know NOTHING about the internal workings of a car so for every car Ive had in the last decade, the first thing Ive done before getting it is join a related forum. I still dont do many mods simply due to confidence and the fact that I dont understand some of the things. Secondly a lot of the forums are US based so the cars arent exactly the same. The last thing I want to do is get half way through a mod to find it isnt compatible in the UK!
With my M3 I added a rear spoiler and then removed it myself before selling it. And also changed all the interior lights which involved some basic drilling and swapping. And that was about all as it cost too much to knacker up!
With my 350z I changed the Air Filter, and upgraded the brembo brake pads, now that was brave as I hadnt a clue what I was doing and bad brakes arent recommended! I did it though following some internet instructions
Ive ordered the top spec Evo so that I get 360bhp, a carbon lip spoiler, carbon vortex genrator etc, in the hope that for the first year or so at least I wont have the desire to change it and lose the warranty. No doubt as more parts become available and more "how to's" get posted on here then I will learn and perhaps gain confidence.
Im not really good at DIY though, I tend to use a hammer when a screwdriver will do. I dont have the patience for tricky, time comsuming bits. Hopefully this place will carry on my education :shades:
Robevo 02-12-2008, 12:58 PM the sad part about it, the most guys start making post about the difference between the X and previus ones ... the mean time they can't even change the sparkplug.
you know those magazine fighters...
but i'm sure within a year everything will calm down to the normal level. Since end of the day we all driving an Evo, and it is not bad to listen the experienced owners. They might have a point , even if its sounds silly some times for a newbie.
Nooka King 02-12-2008, 11:50 PM lets say you used to own a cobalt ss and made it into a 400whp beast by researching and learning all about the car you could, when you sell that car and move on to the next one the nice thing is that baicly the same formulas apply, so if you learn from one car your knowlage just move on to the next one and never stop expanding. i remember when i was a noob lol
