: Apex Driving Academy
SiliconTek 01-13-2010, 07:50 PM We have been discussing getting a group together for a couple of track weekends at Apex Driving Academy http://www.apexdrivingacademy.com/. (http://www.apexdrivingacademy.com/)
I have been waiting for April/May so as not to burn completely up in the Texas heat. If anyone would be interested in having a fun day out there, hanging out, and getting a little tiny bit competitive, maybe :innocent:. There are hotels close by as well for those that have to drive to far.
So anyhow, it looks like I can make it on 2 of the the following weekends of both April/May. Let's see how many we can get and when and try to pick a couple of weekends to head out that way. Indicate your days of interest by <username> - Sat, Sun, or Both.
When we see how many we have, I will give them a call and see what the pricing would be with X number of people. Please follow the link for current pricing for BYOC (Bring Your Own Car).

SiliconTek 01-13-2010, 07:53 PM Oh I forgot to mention, I plan on attending the 2 weekends that the most people respond to. The more X's the merrier!
dcasandman 01-13-2010, 08:05 PM Silicon I am sure I can make a few of those, but I get my schedule only a month in advance. You can count me in on probably 2, but I can not sign up until about a month to a month and half before.

That's cool. At the very least I would like to get you and Ak out that way, more is better. I will be in Thailand from February-March, so I will be getting another tune and perio-maintenance items out of the way before April.
goofygrin 01-13-2010, 10:05 PM If ya'll talk to Chris (Kracka), the new NTEC leader, on the other forum, Don Herring normally sponsors a track day through Apex and he was pretty POed that I didn't include him last year. Two years ago there were like 20+ Evos at one of these events.

They should get on here and post up the info when they go.
I don't understand; how much is it for each person? I looked at their chart, but I don't know about if it's a group or what and if it's talking a group price or a price per person, per group.
Put me down on all of them. I will probably be able to make them. I'll have to start looking into it. Assuming my car will run for that long, lol.
goofygrin 01-13-2010, 10:56 PM It's typically $195 for a day event. DH typically covered half (so it was $100 for the day).
If you want to do NTEC stuff you have to go to the NTEC board. They aren't likely going t o be in the habit of crossing over here to the X specific boards (esp. given the way EvoM blocks cross posting and that Chris is not an X owner).

Yeah, but I'm not even from n. texas. Also, I'm trying to get friends to go that drive stuff other than just evos. So, then every member in a group will pay the 195? Thanks.
goofygrin 01-13-2010, 11:26 PM Anyone with an Evo can participate in an NTEC day (well honestly anyone that can come up with the money lol -- we just prefer Evos).
If you want a group/group rate you need to contact John Holmes (no lie, not the same guy lol) over at Apex and work with him on that. The going rate is $195 though if you just signed up.
A couple alternatives is to do a open track day at Eagles Canyon ($150, includes instructor, but no class time) or through one of the many groups that goes through Harris Hill Road. Talk to Eric at HHR and he can get you connected to the people setting up events there to see if you can get your group in their event.
There are also The Driver's Edge events. These are two day events for $300 ish. Good classroom and ontrack instruction.

When you go for the first time, getting the instruction and the entire process, how many runs do you usually get in the car?
byebye 01-14-2010, 01:17 AM I'm down for what ever. I'm a noob so classroom time wouldn't hurt.

goofygrin 01-14-2010, 01:17 AM If I remember right, Apex is a 6 session, 1 day event.
1st session is drills (stop box, slalom) in order to show you maneuvers that you normally don't use on the street.
2nd session is helmets off session, no passing. Instructor drives a few laps to show you the line, learn your car and give you instruction.
3,4,5,6 sessions are you driving, point by passing in straights
Classroom instruction between every session
TDE events are 4 sessions a day. The first session is helmets off, instructor drives first, then you drive then you drive helmets on, passing with a point by in straights for the rest of the time. Classroom between sessions.
Other events are run similarly, but typically don't have classroom sessions. BMWCCA HPDEs have classroom, ECR's don't. Other clubs might or might not.
A session is normally 20-25 minutes of drive time. 3-4 minutes will be warm up. Laps will be 1:30-2:30 (depending on the track). YMMV, you might be slow, traffic, etc.
