Mr. Win 07-18-2007, 04:50 AM Nice! I'm looking at this one as well. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8404201&type=product&productCategoryId=pcmcat103700050044&id=1180743304645
Kooldino 07-18-2007, 04:55 AM I'm iffy about HPs. They seem to be hit or miss. Make sure you do some research on that particular model if you're serious about buying it.
Myself, I prefer IBM laptops (don't you have one of them for work?) but they're harder to find, and even harder to find on sale.
Kooldino 07-18-2007, 04:55 AM PS - Dell is offering laptops with Ubuntu pre-installed, and they cost around $50 less than their windows counterparts.

Mr. Win 07-18-2007, 05:21 AM Nah I have a Toshiba for work. I agree with you on IBM and I found one in my price range but it was only 80gb. I need windows for the everyday stuff for clients, photoshop, and web design. Im gonna keep my laptop w/ ubuntu as media mule/home desktop.
This one will travel more. Also to me the extended warranty is a must every time it has saved me way more then its cost.
P.S. Any idea for building a media centeR?

Mr. Win 07-18-2007, 03:37 PM Im certainly interested to hear your thoughts...
Any thoughts or Toshiba? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8403596&type=product&productCategoryId=pcmcat103700050012&id=1180743545509
Downside:
533mhz FSB
Onboard intel graphics card.
The memory is expandable up to 4GB which may be useful considering how much of a hog vista is.

Like a Home Theater PC? What do you want in it?

800mhz fsb in a laptop ftw
We are starting to get Dell D630s in and for those who opted for integrated graphics (executives who *gasp* didn't want the ultra thin and light model or a thinkpad x61 tablet).. with both batteries installed you can get TWELVE HOURS with the integrated card.
my d620 that is the same specs basically.. same core2duo 2ghz, same ram, just a 667 fsb instead of 800 gets a measly 4 hours on the same battery setup :'(
Kooldino 07-18-2007, 07:55 PM My PII and PIII laptops get about 35 minutes and about 3 minutes of battery life, respectively.
My DS Lite gets 10+ hours.

lawlz.
I wouldn't mind a nicer newer laptop, but I only REALLY have laptops for tuning.
I originally bought the P3 700 IBM for like $300 used about 3 years ago. It was great except for the battery life (or lack of).
Someone gave me the PII 400 a year or two ago, which also has a serial port (for tuning), and has enough battery life so that I can tune for a short time without plugging it into a power inverter.
I take my PIII laptop with me on trips since it's the "fast" one, but it's really sluggish whenever I need to use it for web access and such. I'll upgrade it someday.

Do it.

Why do you have to order it online? Different networking hardware or something?
For $30, I think it's too much to pay (for me) to have browsing capabilities on my DS. I'll almost certainly never use it.

Like i said, research that particular model first.
BTW - are you bringing a lappy to vegas? If so, which?
I'm debating whether or not I'll bring mine.

I did not, but I'll go do that right now.
You should def bring yours. We're gonna need net access at some point, and since your laptop is generations better than mine, i suggest you be the one to bring one.

And by "you people", clearly I'm referring to blacks.
