: Prototype X video clips
Kooldino 07-18-2007, 10:37 PM Doesn't sound particularly mean or anything, but here's a couple guys revving the engine while the car is parked.
Is it me, or does it rev SLOWLY? Must be a heavy flywheel.

Lock & Load 07-19-2007, 06:35 AM Compared to my 9000 rpm Rotary RX8, yes it does rev to a slow 6000 rpm :)
The exhaust note does not sound beefy enough , but a good aftermarket exhaust , catalyctic converter will soon change the note even possibly get more power .
Do i hear tappet noise in the third video ? or is that the turbo spooling up ?
Cheers
Michael
Kooldino 07-19-2007, 01:23 PM That's definitely not the turbo. It could be a tappet. However, it could just be the engine. An aluminum engine would probably be a bit noisier like that due to lower mass.
Mr. Win 07-19-2007, 03:27 PM Its a N rev... it means nothing.
Lock & Load 07-19-2007, 09:00 PM Whatever it is it doesnt sound great my mothers old sowing machine sounded better , BMW have aluminium engines and they certainly dont sound like a can of rattling marbles .
I am not trying to be difficult but thats not a sound that would inspire confidence in an engine , hopefully its a one of loose tappets situation .
Cheers

True, but it's a smaller engine so it's more prone to make noise. Not sure though, it could be anything. It's hard to tell from the video.

Kooldino 07-19-2007, 09:19 PM Hell for all we know they could be noisy injectors.

One of the best features of my rotary is its size its only a 1.3 liter engine but its smooth as hell and revs to 9000rpm :)
Hopefully production models will get their act together :peace:
Cheers

Kooldino 07-20-2007, 02:24 AM Well, the engine seemed smooth while it was revving, it was just the idle that was noisy.

Hopefully they will sort the idle noise out before they begin to sell them :)

Kooldino 07-20-2007, 01:22 PM True story. This car needs to sound good, not just "not bad".
LancerGTS 07-20-2007, 03:23 PM i was kinda dissapointed with these videos i was expecting to get blown out of the water, maybe just the camera but i was not super impressed it sounded just like my car...:uzi:
Kooldino 07-20-2007, 03:27 PM Not surprising considering it's about the same engine.
Kansei 07-21-2007, 02:08 AM Well, the engine seemed smooth while it was revving, it was just the idle that was noisy.
