: Emergency Please Help !
Hi guys, i know this has benn probably posted by other fellow forum members but here it goes for me :
Drove home from work then adjusted my map while in car car still. I then turned ignition off engine died car said goodbye then start switch to ign on position to write my modified map (reduced some boost, timing, etc) all went well then I clear DTC's as usual but error messages and fan kept on running even DTC's been cleared so i though it was hot outside so the fans kept on running. Turned ignition to off and on again the error messages was still there and fans kept on running, tried to clear DTC's again (it did it's job) but error sand fans were still there and running.
I did the pin 8 & 12 swap (both methods swapping the pin & using the Mitsubishi reflash connector ) but then i same get error message :
[15:33:29.328] 53050006 (109 tables) inheriting evo10base (102 tables) [15:33:29.359] 1048576 byte image read.

[15:33:47.453] sending init sequence 1 (FFFF)
[15:33:50.156] no response to any known code
[15:33:50.156] interface close
So I guess that didn't work out for me. Before doing this pin swap, battery was checked with a good charge, also disconnected the battery for 15mins then same result. USB cable was also good and tried another good cable too ... all other things run with both usb cables except being stuck in my situation now.
Now whenever i turn to "on" position, i get a list of error messages popping up on MID and the fans just keeps on running until i shutdown.
I have the whole day today till tomorrow noon. Hope someone out there could help me out. Did alot of search but didn't help much.
Tephra did mention about :
Power/Grounds:
73 = +12v?
81 = ground
82 = +12v?
93 = ground
104 = +12v?
Just ensure the "power pins" have +12v and the continutity between the ground pins and chassis is 0ohms:
To OBD connector:
90 = CANH
91 = CANL
80 = Kline
103 = pin 8 or 12 ???
i'm yet to try this out but can i have a better instruction ? well being a noob, do i have to pop the hood and find the wiring mentioned and connect them to +12V and GND and then wire the bunch to OBD connector ? after all that wiring job, i fire up ecuflash and flash back to original rom ? what are the following steps ?
Looks like alot of wiring work to do . . .
Many thx in advance !
I've swapped the pins back to normal position, batt is disconnected for time being to preserve charge and i can only use the Clear DTC function in ecuflash but the error messages and fans keeps on running which tells me ecuflash is able to communicate with ecu somehow and someway, can't reflash, can't read . . .http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:forums.evolutionm.net/get/images/smilies/mad.gif
added pic . . . 1st pic is the DTC code i pulled from pcmscan and 2nd pic is ecu connectors ready to be connected for recovery using tephra's method road to recovery !
on2it 01-26-2010, 10:53 AM Does your car start?
Does it sound like this one? http://www.evoxforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24819&highlight=control+unit
If so ...that happened to me while I was installing my wideband.. check your control unit relay fuse (black 7.5A)
oppsss sorry forgot to mention, car will crank but no start . . . after spendiong sometime diagnosting , it feels like the ecu locked itself up and wanting you to send it back to dealership and charge you a L A R G E chunk of CASH !

any pic of which fuse ? mind to snap a pic n post it up ? i will check that up too thx for your reply on2it but i doubt that's my prob but would still double check .....
on2it 01-26-2010, 11:22 AM Theres only 1 or 2 black 7.5 fuses in there, I'll try and find you a diagram, otherwise it will be in your service manual.. will be right back.
I think those fuses cost $3.50 to replace.
otherwise if you count 2 in from the left and 3 up you will see the 2 black 7.5 fuses..
note this is a JDM fusebox, so if yours is USDM then your box will be on its side.

I specifically had this behaviour with the fuse issue. although my car started. ( perhaps you have 2 issues here? One is caused by your ROM rewrite and the other by your fuse? )

Just spoke to him .. he bricked it ..
Anyways. .. hope it highlights the importance of verifying the maps you get are correct for your car ..
change something thats not meant to be changed or maps thats fixed (yeah they have those maps thats FIXED) .. and the X ECU is not as forgiving as the older generations ECU
Ttsumibishi 01-26-2010, 12:55 PM Ow. What's the fix - new ECU?
don't know yet still waiting for help and solutions :(
celica2evo 01-26-2010, 01:11 PM so your ECU is bricked up...damn sorry to hear about this!
I know how it feels because mine is in the same state right now.
I am taking my ECU out tonight and sending it to Colby at tactrix to do a ECU recovery
unless you know how to properly "bench" your ECU you will more than likely have to do the same thing.
If you go to Tactrix website there is a "Mitsubishi CAN ECU Flash Recovery" service that you can purchase that costs $75 puls shipping.
this is the route that I had to go, good luck and let us know how things turn out.
xPRimNT 01-26-2010, 02:12 PM Yep. As gunzo said, that's bricked. It sounds exactly like what I just went through. The flash went fine but DTCs wouldn't clear.
The ECU needs to be benched by someone who knows! Where are you located E6X?
very far in the middle east xprimnt . . . . who is the "Guru" for bench ? how did you resolve your prob xprimnt ?
Yxd68 01-26-2010, 02:21 PM Where are you located E6X? His profile shows he's on Earth.

you best bet is to get in contact with Colby from Tactrix.
he has benched many ECU's
His profile shows he's on Earth.
:offtopic: but a good one :p need some help here .... arghhh so FRUSTRATED !
you best bet is to get in contact with Colby from Tactrix.
he has benched many ECU's
awesome ... and yes COLBY where are you ? how do i get in touch with him the soonest ?
celica2evo 01-26-2010, 02:27 PM here is a link to what you need to do.
all the details are there, if need be you can give them a call.

Whitewind 01-26-2010, 02:27 PM Man not being rude but you got one option here.^^^^^^^^^^
Colby from Tactrix. Your brick your F'ed man. Sh*t happen my friend. Good luck man!
xPRimNT 01-26-2010, 02:40 PM Pretty much. Mine required benching too E6X (well, not my ECU, but the ECU that was bricked).
Do you have a place you can leave your car for a week or so? Or an alternate vehicle to use during that time?
It's too bad that you're so far away from Tactrix, I bet the shipping time will be a while.
xPRimNT 01-26-2010, 02:41 PM E6, what did you change in your ROM? Did you attempt the P0140/P0139 disable?
celica2evo 01-26-2010, 02:43 PM ^thats the reason they have overnight myfriend ;)
(even though it may cost an arm and a leg)
plus I would recommend shipping it this way anyway due to the fact that there are waaaaay less people touching your package, you def don't want your ECU to get damaged during shipping
xPRimNT 01-26-2010, 02:44 PM Overnight from the Middle East would destroy a bank account...
It's fine for North Americans, but he's REALLY far away.

yep ... i smell a burning hole in my pocket. not much of an option for me :(
nah i didn't attempt the code.
celica2evo 01-26-2010, 03:38 PM oh I thought he was in the states...sorry
ok, some updates, batt was disconnected same goes to ecu harness at the engine bay for approx. 1 hour ++, (doors were locked manually). of course the fans and errors were still there and car won't start.
reconnected everything back, situation was the same but discovered something new :
i tried tephra's suggestions on other posts with same situations with turning ign on try to quickly exit programming state with flash recovery mode turned off. tried a couple of times with 15 sec intervals. damn it's fast no chance to do almost anything before the fans turns, it was almost immediate.
loaded up pcmscan to see whats wrong and realised the ecu has lost comm with ECM / PCM A ?? , see pic on 1st post. me thinks ecu has locked itself up but pcmscan can see the transmission controller which i believe its the SST's ECU. used to be able to see 2 controllers but only 1 this time. 3 codes was given pls refer to 1st post pic.
also tried my luck with evoscan, yes i know dtc's won;t work with evoscan but was using it to see if there's any comm between them .... true enough evoscan dtc function or just the datalogging can' "see the ECU and keeps on trying to reconnect (my default setting).
i hope someone could chime in to help out with similar experience or has any in this ...
currently, batt & ecu is hooked back up. everything else works fine, radio, alarm, immobilizer, etc . . .
xPRimNT 01-26-2010, 06:35 PM Sorry E6, there's only one solution. Honest, I tried everything too (on an MR).
Sorry E6, there's only one solution. Honest, I tried everything too (on an MR).
yeah i guess now i'm hitting a brick, will get the ecu out n sent it to be benched !and hope to get it back asap n get my x up n runnin' thx for your inputs really appreciate it mate :)
verkion 01-26-2010, 11:05 PM Hey E6-X, just wanted to doublecheck...were you trying to do the P0139/P0420 CEL fix? Or something else?
Thanks!
verkion
Excalibur 01-26-2010, 11:12 PM What were you doing on the ecu? What did it say when it didn't communicate?
Tephra 01-26-2010, 11:34 PM why dont you work out the bench wiring yourself?
AFAIK my wiring hookup is 95% the way there... sure would be cheaper for you todo it yourself...

verkion
nah not the CEL fix, was flashing and it went into a bad situation, not too sure but i could've done something wrong along the process
verkion
Just normal flashing but like i said maybe i did something wrong or missed a step, it didn't say anything just stuck ??? you can't do anything at all !
$ isn't the real issue tephra .... it's my own cause and fault. Waiting for a few replies and see how it goes & wanna make sure i do not go deeper in the hole i'm in now :(
The "brain" definitely has to sit under the hot sun bench LOL :mad:
on2it 01-27-2010, 11:08 AM guys.. how much is a new ECU?
Tephra 01-27-2010, 12:12 PM 750 - 911... USD
mitsubishi parts.net
ecm i assume is the thing we need :D
xbox4414 01-28-2010, 12:48 AM Will a new ECU come blank and need to be programmed or what? Wondering if a new ECU can be "plug and go"
Clipse3GT 01-28-2010, 12:50 AM Will a new ECU come blank and need to be programmed or what? Wondering if a new ECU can be "plug and go"
Dealer has to program it for your specific car...
Dealer has to program it for your specific car...
but if you have a MUT III i think should be able to program it yourself using a stock base map meant fo royur own car isn't it ?
mantella 01-29-2010, 06:48 AM it is true that if you had a 5000.00 mut III with all current updates you could setup a new ecu most likely you would just make your problem worse. if you do not code things in the correct order you can also take out other modules mainly etacs and srs ecu. where i work we where going to get a tech 2 the gm scan tool but i advised against it due to some coding issues tht can cause more problems then we would be fixing to begin with.
Hi guys,
1st of all I would like to say many thx to everyone especially to Hamish, Tephra, Gunzo, Jon@HBSpeed, Xprimnt & Clipse3gt who read my post and helped me out.
the good news is that my ride is up and running now back to normal ! believe me, it's been a nightmare and a GREAT relief now.
LVSBB6 01-30-2010, 07:00 AM What did you do at the end to make it work?

This is why I love HB Speed! They offer assistance and great customer support for those who aren't even their customers! If I get a pro tune I'm taking my car to Jon for sure!

Even not as a customer yet ! great response :rock:

the only way to get it to work again is to bench it :godance:

put it on the "bench"
boostin20 02-17-2010, 11:30 AM Can anyone link me with the full how to of benching the ecu? I'm not trying to make money off of this, but have the info for when this happens to me.

LOL, just gonna put it out there. If you needed help knowing the benching process, then that means I'm just as capable as you of connecting jumpers.
celica2evo 02-18-2010, 08:00 PM If there was a how to on benching ECU's companies like tactrix wouldn't do any business.
I jsut got mine back from Colby at tactrix and everything is now fine!
If this ever does happen...send it off!

yeah just send it to the pros and you do not want to have more problems after the ecu crashing on ya.

Well for me I would spill the beans and tell everyone how to bench your ECU. Seems me if you live in middle east you have to help him but if your in states you have send it off.. Thats BS sorry... Forums are for help people out right? Cause seems you got help...:shades:
