Hello,

I searched and went through about 9 pages of the threads and didnt see anyone else with this question.

The car is garage kept and in my last couple of trips out, I flip the switch to go into Sport (the lcd changes from Normal to Sport) but the rpms and the behavior of the car is still Normal Mode. Usually, as soon as I flip the switch, you can hear and see the rpms rise. This stopped happening.

I bought the car at the beginning of October and didnt notice this ever happening until this month. Could it be the cold weather? It seems that once I drive for a few minutes (leaving it in Sport) it will stop feeling like Normal Mode and really make the switch to Sport. I have never had this happen after the car is warmed up. I am hoping someone can ease my mind or tell me to take her to the dealer.

Thank you!

Hopefully this is a case of rtfm but my fiance' took her to work today along with the manual.

Does it work in Super Sport?

The tranny will be in a normal mode until the temperature of the oil is up to operating temp. IE its cold out side and the oil is cold. I think..

I actually have tried that and it seems to exhibit the same behavior. I drove it the other day about 3 blocks when it wouldn't go to Sport so I pulled over, and switched it to S-Sport. S-Sport showed on the LCD but the car still felt like Normal Mode.

After about a mile and a half of driving it lunged into S-Sport.

you can put the tranny in any mode you want. Until it reaches temp, it will not come out of normal regardless of what the readout says.

And yes... when it reaches temp, it will switch on it's own...

Hey there,

you made a very detailed observation of the transmission behaviour, no wonder, that noone else asked that question ;-)

Teh transmission itself is running in the that mode, which is indicated in the display. If you make a shift, you will feel a more or less faster and sporty shift in super sport and in sport mode than beeing in normal mode.
The only difference from normal operation is the shift point, and this is, what you figured out. There is an extra map for the warm up of the vehicle.
Beeing really accurate, the engine coolant temperature is responsibel for the switch from warm up to normal operation mode.
There is nothing to change an that behaviour, it is like it is.

Hope, that will help you?

You guys rock! Thank you!

Totally answers my questions and will keep me from losing sleep thinking there may be a problem when there is none. I am still a bit away from her first scheduled maintenance and didn't want to head to the dealer early for something that seemed like it could be by design.

Thanks again!

You guys sure about that? Mine will switch to sport after 2 minutes of driving in -20 weather....

I noticed that when the car is cold (first minute or so), it either completely ignores my shift inputs or the LCD shows that I've shifted, but the tranny takes a second to think about it before it gets to that gear. After noticing that, I've been cautious and played it safe with normal mode until the car is warmed up before switching the modes. Thought I was the only one that this was happening to, but great to know that the tranny is good at preserving itself!
