: Help Me Please!!!!!!
logitech80 02-03-2010, 04:34 AM anyone out there HELP ME PLEASE!!! notchiness i could live with but griding and high pitch noise i can't.... i went to dealership 3 times for the same repair the tech said he hear the noise but he doesn't know what it is... he said its not the synchros or the clutch.... so the called up mitsu rep. to stop by the dealership. Mitsu rep. test drove it he said its normal.(but it not)
i need advice..... lets say your driving in first gear at 15mph and theres a sudden stop...so i put shifter in "N" put it back in to first gear at 5~7mph i hear high pitch gear whine(sounded like when you don't depress clutch when shifting u get high pitch gear noise)....and grind like noise its like im not even depressing the clutch( it happens when car is in motion in first gear or sometimes 2nd) but when car is fully stop first gear is fine.
LEt me Know if its normal... and tell me how to talk to mitsu dealership.....about this cause only answer i get is its normal.
I have 2008 evo x gsr
Ttsumibishi 02-03-2010, 04:40 AM The grinding does not sound normal. High pitched whine maybe on its own, but the two together?
Basics - Check to make sure you're not dragging anything? Leaking any fluids underneath the car or onto the top of the skid plate? Check your dipstick too - oil level look ok?
A good number of us have high pitched whine in 1st/2nd when gear is selected, regardless of if clutch is in or out. I assume it's just the gearbox. If I'm coasting in 1st at 15mph and I push in the clutch (esp after a cold start) I'll hear a whine. If I get out of gear it goes away. While still coasting I put it back into 1st but do NOT re-engage the clutch, and whine comes back. So it's definitely when the gears are mated up, guessing it's just a noisy gearbox much like the rest of the car - LOL.
The grinding definitely have that checked out mate.
MOB EVO X 02-03-2010, 08:26 AM ^what he said. Whining is ok. Just change your tranny oil and the grinding will be almost fully gone. Only when its cold will it grind a bit.
Evoxphase1 02-03-2010, 08:47 AM Put some amsoil in there.
logitech80 02-03-2010, 10:31 AM i changed the fluid 2 times already.... i don't know why dealer won't fix it//

when your coasting.... when u try to put it back at first gear..... does it go in smoothly?? mine doesn't go in smoothly.... and when it goes in ... it makes high pitch and gear grinding....like i;m trying to shift without pressing the clutch./...
like i said why would the dealer and mitsu rep. said its normal.... i know the soud wasn't there... b4..... i forgot to mention.... dealer had my car for a week.... still didn't find anything...
DOES ANYONE KNOW A GOOD DEALERSHIP IN NJ....cause the one i went didnt find anything.... and ANYONE OUT THERE DID THERE TRANS work at the dealer.... please let me know.... how you got it fixed
on2it 02-03-2010, 10:58 AM is this car new? has it been driven hard?
is your clutch pressed all the way to the firewall when slipping into gear?
Does it have the same behaviour when stationary or its it only when its in motion?
Does it do the same for reverse or only 1st gear?
Your dealer should be sorting out the notchiness
Excalibur 02-03-2010, 11:27 AM Mine whines a little as described by tmitsubishi. I have royal purple in mine. I did have amsoil, but when the shop did the clutch and I told them to put amsoil in it, they didn't have it, so they stuck me with this.
Blue_X 02-03-2010, 12:43 PM when your coasting.... when u try to put it back at first gear..... does it go in smoothly?? mine doesn't go in smoothly.... and when it goes in ... it makes high pitch and gear grinding....like i;m trying to shift without pressing the clutch./...
So if i understand you correctly your coasting (exact speed is important to know) and your attempting to put the car into first gear. If you have a GSR then thats actually normal (assuming your traveling faster then about 20 mph) it being hard to shift into first gear in a safety feature of the transmission to prevent damage to the car. When it does go in you say you hear a whining thats most likely from the high speed at which the gear is spinning. Mine does the same thing when i down shift to early coming to a stop. If your getting a grinding i wonder if your maybe trying to force it into gear to early, this can happen even with the clutch pressed in. It has to do with the alignment of the actual gears them selves. Oh and dealerships dont care about you or your car. Most of them anyway, my dealerships here in colorado suck.
logitech80 02-03-2010, 01:43 PM Does anyone has same problem? How did you get it resoved ?
One more thing when u shift gear how ur manual says I keep getting hesitation or like misfire feeling whenever I shift to 5 th gear. For example shift to 5 th gear and ur rpm it around little above 2k give some load as it pass 2500 rpm my car does that all the time when I give some load but normal driving it doesn't it smooth
linste 02-03-2010, 04:16 PM I think i have the same shit, or something similar! I posted my griding issues many times but didn't get much response. There is alot of resistance when shifting down to 1st while the car is in motion, even when 7 or 10mph. And partly it is because of the precaution issue. So whine and difficulty is normal. as a result i don't use 1st at all unless i come to a complete stop.
As for the grind, i get it too but slightly different. I usually get it when shifting to 2nd gear from 1st. Are you absolutely sure it is the same sound you get from shifting w/ out disengaging the clutch? I thought mine were too initially for along time but now after hearing it more it doesn't sound exactly like grinding from engaged clutch.
where in nyc are you? we could meet up to compare.
logitech80 02-04-2010, 01:17 AM I'm in staten island u?
linste 02-04-2010, 04:11 AM east queens. maybe you can take a video and capture the noise it makes. this may help us all chime in.
Malicust 02-04-2010, 05:43 AM Im actually pretty glad I found this thread, I just put in my intake and started hearing that high pitched whine in 1st/2nd gear and the only response I got from a tech was "Sounds like your drivetrain is dying." So I figured id get some money together, take it to my tuner to see if he can find out if its normal or not and also get him to do my tbe w/ 02 dp install so i can get my retune at the same time ;)
Edit: Hmm my whine is from accelerating in 1st/2nd gear is that the same as you guys?
markymarc 02-15-2010, 11:49 PM do u drive with a MP3 player like an ipod..
i hear a whine only when my iphone is plugged in thru the aux
TheNEWB 02-15-2010, 11:54 PM I think my mitsu figured out the hi-pitch whine noise. THey said they did and changed a part.......... I will update you all after I pick up the car. They said the noise is completely gone..... you wont believe what it was.
Will keep you posted.
SiliconTek 02-16-2010, 03:36 AM I have just learned to live with it. You will find a work around...
