i just wanted to know which car had the biggest stocker turbo. i know the IX was bigger than the previous evo. just wanted to know if the X is overall bigger than the IX.

ive looked on this site as well as evom. couldnt find an answer

i believe the 9 is still bigger but not by much in the name of faster spool time

I think the 9 is bigger, but I think the Xs is more efficient?

Performance wise they are VERY similar, however physically the IX's is slightly larger.

i found a post an evom that said the IX's cold side and wheel is bigger but the X has a bigger hot side. hmmm....i wonder if u can mix and match the two turbos. get the IX's cold side and add it to the X's hot side????

I don't think that would be possible, as they rotate in two different directions.

i dont know if u can compare them due to the X being a twin-scroll. unless the ix had one but idk if it did. but waht do i know. this is my first boost car

VIII,IX, and X comes with twin scroll. Thats one thing that evos are known for stock

The compressor housing is about the same with a smaller wheel, but the turbine is larger. From what I hear, atleast.

if you watch the evo x training videos it states the evo x has a bigger turbo then previos models but it doesn't get any more specific then that

What's twin scroll?

Basically the turbo has 2 exhaust inlets. With a properly designed exhaust manifold this allows much better and efficient flow which helps the turbo spool faster.

ok i tried searching and came up empty. what turbo is in the X? how does the size compare to... say an o5 sti's stock vf39 turbo? ;)

thanks guys.

The sti's are known for having baby turbo syndrome...and all the sti owners complain about running out of air at high rpm/speed.

So i'm guessing the ix/x turbo is larger.

For USDM Evo's

The Evo X turbo is a TD05H-152G6-12T

The Evo VIII (03-04) used a TD05HR-16G6-9.8T (Changing to 10.5T in 05)

The Evo IX used a TD05HRA-16G6C-10.5T

I beleive the compressor and wheels are smaller on the X than all CT9A's. However, the hotside looks enormous. Why would they do this? A smaller wheel and a larger turbine? Doesn't that basically yield similar results? Or is this combo the best for quick spool up and big top-end power?

/\ Thank you... geez I guess most of the new X owners are non-previous evo owners, I thought this was common knowledge.

The main difference is the hotside went from 10.5T to 12T (bigger), and the cold side went from a 16G to a 15G (smaller)... yields better low end and mid range but can't maintain boost up top, I am not sure if its just simply overspinning the cold side past the point of efficiency or what, but such is the case.
