That has to be the best 1st post ever! Congratulations on your podium finish. Fantastic video.
bradze 02-22-2010, 08:13 PM ^agreed!
fgaillard 02-22-2010, 08:15 PM Thank you very much for the compliment bradze..alot of time, 2 blowned engine in the R & D, few turbos, hundreeds of hours of work and alot of money to achieve that car...everybody told me it was impossible to turn an evo into a race car, they were wrong...next step sequential gears, aero....will make this baby shine....regarding the car setup...adapted from long datas and hard work..
fgaillard 02-22-2010, 08:19 PM That has to be the best 1st post ever! Congratulations on your podium finish. Fantastic video.
Thank you very much for your comment.....was not wanted to publish anything before the car has been running a full race...we cure so far all the troubles and I can say it s a huge achievement...will keep sharing my experiences about the car in the next races....THANK YOU AGAIN to appreciate the car..it make me very happy.
pdacton 02-22-2010, 08:20 PM I wish Speed Channel would show this kind of racing here in the US (instead of all the crappy NASCAR).
Quick question - what is that scoop on top of the roof for? Ventilation? Aerodynamics?
fgaillard 02-22-2010, 08:24 PM It s purely ventilation, from rally cars....the turbo heat alot and we race till may where the temperature reach over 100 F....but you loose alot of CX points, what doesn t really matter...the car still pull hard enough....
Excalibur 02-22-2010, 08:32 PM How much weight did you save from swapping the body pieces to carbon?
Doors front
Doors rear
Roof (should be 1lb)
fenders
Rear bumper
???
I thought about losing some weight on mine, but don't know how much it would do for me.
Also, what hks plugs did you run? Do you have a pn?
fgaillard 02-22-2010, 08:39 PM Total parts replaced with carbon are around 60 Kg..you re quiet right, the roof is 2Lbs, but it looks amazing....
I choose to swap with carbon, mostly to showcase everything on the market..but it doesn t save so much weight....
The plugs are M40XL...
sorry, what do you mean by pn??thanks
pdacton 02-22-2010, 08:54 PM Are you the same Frederic Gaillard who drove an Aston Martin Vantage GT4 at the Dubai 24 Hours? And won the SP2 class last year?
fgaillard 02-22-2010, 09:08 PM Yes, i am..this year, we led for 17 hours, but we broke 2 driveshafts and finished 4th.....
pdacton 02-22-2010, 09:09 PM Wow! Very impressive. What made you decide to switch from Astons to Evos?
GO ON 3 02-22-2010, 09:11 PM congrats an a holy shit for the part list :D
fgaillard 02-22-2010, 09:17 PM I had the first evo x from UAE, loved the car, I push my company to bring up the motorsport scene in middle East and we build a Viper ACR Race car who was unbeatable for a while till the regs changed and people brought proper callaway GT3 vettes... I bought the aston GT4 to make endurance races..have 2 Lotus Exige, 1 GT3 and 1 GT4, Seat Supercopa, Renault Clio Cup as well....the evo is just a show off and a unique product to demonstrate what we can do...but in fact, it still impress me as race car...I really had fun and love it..but next year, I will run Porsches and will keep the evo for some track days...

PN=Part Number.
That will work though. Thanks for the help. So just to confirm, you shedded 60kgs? That's pretty good. Nice to have you on the forums. I hope to hear more about your progress. I would love to see this car on tv. I'm shocked to see rx8's, 350z's, etc, but no evos.
fgaillard 02-22-2010, 09:26 PM It pass on TV, but unfortunately local TV....very shortly....can just tell you people love this car, even more than any proper FIA GT3 cars..will make details pictures to show you till where we pushed the details of the build, no short cuts has been taken for this project...
Anyway, thanks again for your kind comments...
Will send you the parts nr, I got them from Vivid Racing, you can find them on their online store..
Just look at the scene.:-) something wrong in the picture...???

pdacton 02-22-2010, 09:27 PM Some footage from the last 24 hours...in the Aston
Sorry for the out of topic....
Nothing to be sorry about - that was awesome!!! Thanks for sharing! As you can see from my picture to the left I am a huge Aston Martin fan - saw the DBR9s win at Le Mans, saw their new LMP1 car win the LMS championship at Silverstone last year, hoping to see them win at Sebring this year. Best looking and sounding cars on the track.

Only thing I see that's wrong is you're not in the front. lol. I hope you guys do great and I would like to see more people using them.
fgaillard 02-22-2010, 09:35 PM For next week, I have borrowed my vantage GT4 to Aston Racing who come to F1 track in Abu Dhabi with Darren Turner to take some taxi drives around the track...they will ride as well one of 77...will send you some pics...

I tried hard, stilll not too comfy with the car, much more time on it....will practice and let you know...
bondoa6 02-22-2010, 09:47 PM epic....congrats!!!!!
shizblam 02-22-2010, 09:47 PM haha that evo looks so out of place in that pic but it is insanely awesome...
gotta give big props, the car is awesome. i bet it's a lot of fun to drive.
bondoa6 02-22-2010, 09:50 PM do you ever plan on racing either the 24 of Le Mans, or the Rolex 24 at Daytona???
steelbahamut 02-22-2010, 09:58 PM Amazing pics and video, sometimes I hit roadblocks or issues working on my own car, when I see posts like this and read about the kinds of obstacles the pros have to overcome it really inspires me to push on!

One of my most prized possessions is a limited edition print of the 2008 Le Mans winning DBR9, signed by Darren Turner! I wonder how much flights are to UAE....

bradze 02-25-2010, 08:20 PM are there regulations on your intercooler size?
fgaillard 02-25-2010, 08:26 PM are there regulations on your intercooler size?
No, no intercooler size restriction....
Only power to weight fo each class...
MAX POWER :
GTA : 3.0KG/WHP
GTB : 4.0KG/WHP
GTC: 4.7KG/WHP
My evo : 1290 KG + 90 kg driver ( fixed weight mesure for everybody ) 1380 KG/4 = 345 WHP
Could easy push to GTA, but then, no chances against Porsche GT3 CUP, GT3 Vettes, Viper
bradze 02-25-2010, 08:39 PM oh, i see. just never saw a gap so small between the two air guides
so what class u run?
fgaillard 02-25-2010, 08:57 PM Running in GTB....
bradze 02-25-2010, 09:04 PM ah, cool. how do you like the awd, and yaw control, etc... of the evo vs. a rear-drive car like say that aston martin?

Will do a full picture report about the car inside out this week-end and will publish with details....I believe you will quiet like the built quality of it..
Regarding the driving of the car, I believe it's totally different than anything else I drove so far...
I start my "racing" last year with a front wheel drive Renault Clio Cup to get some miles on the track in "race conditions" and I really enjoyed the balance of the car and to learn to drive it fast...lift oversteer on the car is just amazing...
After what I made 2 24 hours races in my Aston Martin Vantage GT4 coached with professional drivers, it's a very easy car to drive, not really entertaining, but fill the job perfectly for the value..
Drove several times my Lotus Exige Race cars...JUST AMAZING FUN, but not reliable....
Trackdays with several porsches GT2-GT3-Carrerat GT-Turbo
All differents, but efficient as "THE" perfect racetrack tool, need to get use to the weight balancing of the car, but really good fun...
Last year, we start to built the EVO, and more we move forward, more the specs get higher, till today, where we stay with everything putted into the car, except sequential gearbox...
The car is not only fast in the straight, it handle well, very well in fact.
We run Dunlop slicks size 240 on it, a bit of track with 25MM spacers.
On cold tires, I believe the car has a big advantage, and the key to keep the car stable is to play during the race with the diff setup ( Motec Diff controller ) 7 settings.
I start on a "tarmac" then when the tires get temperature, I transfer as much power "step by step" to the back t fight the understeer.
The fast corners, the car is just planted, it drive like a porsche.
SLOW in FAST out....
As well, the car is very gentle with the tires, it really spare them comparing all the other cars. They get used equally, not shred on it..
As we have very slippy track ( due to the heat and to the sand ) we keep the ride height quiet high for a race car..the car need to roll..
The FP red is not the quickest spool, means you can enter the power before the Apex, and when it's well done, the exit speed is just ridiculous...
We had the AYC setup with wheel speed sensors calibrated, and it destroyed the drivability of the car on the track...on each lap, each corner will react different, due to the load, grip braking zone, etc...
From slight understeer, I got snap oversteer, at the same place, same speed in one Lap difference only, so, no, I don't recommend the AYC for a race car, even managed by MOTEC...
The car is still under development, we are improoving the cooling and heat insulation...each race is a Tial WG, the Oil Bonjo from the turbo and a total recheck of everything....alot of time and money for 45 minutes race...
Excepting that, the car is a pure blast and will goes better and better....
More to come....:godance:
newcomer81 02-25-2010, 10:23 PM I am just downright impressed. Thank you for sharing, you just gained a 1000 new fans!

bradze 03-02-2010, 05:27 PM so much better than all the time attack crap! time attack and lapping still a lot of fun, i.e. all i can afford, but doesn't at all compare to wheel to wheel racing.

Oh WOW!!!!
TRUSTcompany9000 03-05-2010, 08:00 PM Wow that car is wild, I love it!
ripnbst 03-05-2010, 08:24 PM The money out there is disgusting.
ripnbst 03-05-2010, 08:32 PM Why the roof scoop?
fgaillard 03-06-2010, 09:20 AM Oh WOW!!!!
Thank you very much for the compliments.....
fgaillard 03-06-2010, 09:23 AM The money out there is disgusting.
I believe money is everywhere, just look at nascar and their budgets....I self finance the race team by hard work, didn't get any help from any sponsors, had to fight like hell to bring the race team in place...with alot of sacrifices...anyway, I ll try to make it better...because it s my passion and it is share with my partners and colleagues working with me..
The roof scoop is needed as we run with extreme heat and some air in the car is not too bad....loosing some points in drag, but very efficient...All the best..
Dbone 03-07-2010, 06:38 PM To be honest, I walked into this thread expecting to see a video of some rich kid from Abu Dhabi thrash the latest toy daddy bought him not having a clue how to drive.
It was obvious by the 2nd corner that isn't the case here. :)
Great driving! The first video is a great example of a driver who isn't hesitating on the throttle. You don't hear the Bov going off several times in a corner (once you got clear of traffic). Just the once before the corner, and then on the next gear change.
Good stuff. Thanks for posting.
Btw, did you move from Switzerland to the Emirates just for the racing? That has to be a hell of a change for you.
Are they much into racing out there? I was really annoyed when they stole the race from Montreal. The Montreal race was always sold out, but I didn't see that many people at the Abu Dhabi race (sorry for getting OT).

I figured that it was probably for some type of A/C but its seems to me that the design is not as efficient as it could be. It looks like it would cause more drag than is necessary. Perhaps look into either somehting with a smaller ratio of open frontal area:material frontal area.
seventhfactor 03-07-2010, 07:54 PM Absolutely awesome thread. I enjoyed seeing you amongst the porsches. Keep up the great work - you are making us proud!

I m definitey thinking of something smaller....:-)
Anyway, that's what is fitted in the Evo for rally and was guessing it will be good for venting...It's quiet efficient in fact, bu true, it has alot of drag...will work on something different....definitely...

Thank you very much for your kind words....
I moved 6 years ago for a job mission from Switzerland (IT) always had dreamed to race, but couldn't afford it....
Anyway, as mentioned before...:-) with alot of work, I managed to be able to open a workshop with some pro team coming from the UK and we create the company NFS, what open the opportunity to start a race team..slowly, slowly, the team grow and last year, I ve decided to build an EVO X for the track on hot weather conditions...and so far, it work quiet well...but with alot of headaches..
We also built a Viper ACR in-house to compete with FIA GT3 cars, and the development of those 2 cars has been an amazing business card for our company..
As for the change, it's completely different of Switzerland, but I got used to it..
Regarding the popularity of the motorsport in the UAE, it was sad to see so many vacant places during the F1 race.
I believe the F1 venue in Abu Dhabi is purely a advertisement show, much more than a true passion for the emirati people for this motorsport.
Only few local people are interesedd into track races, they mostly like the drag races...
But for their defence, the track they've built is really impressive and amazing to drive...
Slowly, some local drivers are joining the competition and are doing quiet well, but it will still need a lot of time for the people to get involved into races and to really appreciate it.
It's still a very young country for motorsport and I believe it will grow quiet well in the near future..
Will keep you posted on the next race....
bradze 03-07-2010, 08:54 PM hope nascar doesn't become popular there.....

I was @ Yas Marina (Abu Dhabi), 2 weeks ago. Judging from the weather, it will be kinda hard for you to run in the summer when it's 40*c outside....Any who, Love the car!

Very cool. I'd love to do what you're doing some day. The Brits just love their racing. I love how the Nurburgring and 24hr de Le Mans are over run with them. I really hope the sport doesn't get hit too hard with this recession (perhaps soon to be called a depression).
I'm looking forward to seeing you're next race. Good luck!
fgaillard 03-12-2010, 05:10 PM Next race in one week exactly....
New sway bars and better cooling on the way....
Will poost videos & more....

EvoX2NR 03-16-2010, 04:02 PM Just got back from checking out the Evo... this car is amazing guys. If only you could see it in person. Lots of hard work put in to this
fgaillard 03-21-2010, 06:51 PM New short footage, mixed up with our other team car on the last week-end race in Dubai Autodrome...
We had just fitted Hotchkis Sway bars on it and turn to be catstrophic for the track....make the car too stiff and snap oversteer...
Anyway, enjoy...will be follow soon by a longer Evo Footage..
