Wow... second day of driving, Boston gets a snow storm. I had to drive to school but the car kept powering over and it was MAD dangerous. Time to change tires. Anyone know any good tires? Im thinking of Bridgestone LM25 or something. Anyways just a heads up, DO NOT DRIVE STOCK TIRE WHEN ITS SNOWING.

Yeah these stockers are rated for speed, not traction.

What is the best width of tire for optimal traction in light/mod. snow? I heard 195-205.
Also, What offset would we have to run in an 18" wheel to make those be flush with the fender (without spacers)?

Good question. It's possible that a more narrow tire would be better in the snow, but I don't know.

I just put on some HanKook Ice bears and they work great. I did the 235/45/18r to save a lil bit of money but they still fit very nice.

got any pics with those bastards on there?

We should start a tire review thread in wheels and suspension.

Speaking of which...moving this thread.

you should try blizzaks, being station in new york a couple of friend of mine have sti's and evo's and during the winter they use blizzaks, blizzaks + awd is like driving through the snow like a tank, but blizzaks are expensive

Yup. I had something like that on my last car. Almost $275 per tire. They were Winterforce-somethings.

Want me to make a video showing the difference between stock and snow tires? It'd be a very good comparison.

^ If you're serious, yes. I live in an area where it has the potential to snow, but usually doesn't. This year it has though, the thickest it's been was maybe 4 inches. If the stock tires are absolutely dangerous on snow, then I guess I have to buy snow tires no matter what. But, I'm trying to save myself a few hundred dollars. Thanks.

Any snow is too much...in fact if it's cold enough to snow but the ground is clear you still need to exercise extreme caution when driving. The rubber compound is extremely hard in cold weather which makes the tires lose a large amount of grip.

You can find a sticker on the drivers side door (when the car is new) that explains the use of the ACD and also informs the driver that the tires are not designed to be used in cold weather.

blizzaks are WONDERFUL in the snow!
