Hey were any of you able to test drive an Evo before buying it? I went to a local dealer here but they said I had to order it first...

Thats BS, I test drove both an MR and GSR before I ordered my GSR with the options I wanted.

I actually bought my car from a dealership that doesn't allow test drives. I went about 30 minutes away to another dealership where I did test drive a GSR. I really wanted to buy my car from them, but they didn't have the car I wanted. So I ended up going to the one that pissed me off, and it was actually refreshing knowing that none of their Evos had been touched. Even the the people at the Suby dealership gave me kind of a hard time about driving their STi. I was leaning about 90% towards the STi until I actually drove them both (back to back) and then it was kind of a no brainer.

Thats insane. I would NEVER have order my Evo is Platinum In Calgary didnt let me test drive the cars. I was a die hard Scooby fan until I tested the GSR and MR. Then was obviously sold =). I didnt order on the spot but I did order the car a few months later.

go to northshore mitsubishi... I got to test drive, and they have an 08 red MR right now that I'm sure they'd be willing to let you test :P

For me it was between the STI and the EVO. Subaru dealer wouldn't let me test drive the STI but my Mitsu dealer let me take their MR out. I was so impressed with the EVO, I bought it right after taking the test drive.

Go back, talk to the manager, and give them a hard time. Tell them how are you supposed to know if that's what you want if they don't let you test drive it first.

i had to pretty much show them a blank check just to allow me to take a few laps around the parking lot.ridiculous but they pride themselves on every evo having no more than 10 miles on it.the manager was the only person allowed to even move them around the lot.they justify it with "peaple who spend 40k on a car dont want it to have been joyriden in".kinda uppity but i like the fact my mr had 10 miles on it.hehe

Yeah, mine offered me a chance to drive my car when I arrived at the dealership with a bankcheck in hand lol. No seriously...

This "no test drive" may have been true when these cars first came out but, most models are readily available now. I encourage a "quality" test drive before shelling out 40-50K. The test drive is what sells the car.

Meh. As piss poor as these cars are with the stock tune, I don't feel like I missed anything by not being able to drive it beforehand. I drove a friend's Cobb Stage 1 Evo X a lot before buying mine, so I knew what I was going to end up with.

Coming from a 320WHP WRX, the Evo X, stock, on the ride home, felt big, fat, and slow.

Mine had 4 miles coming off the dealer lot, so I was pleased with that. I honestly don't even think I requested a test drive, come to think of it.

Red Deer has an American gsr that wasn't any problem taking for a rip. But I think it has something to do with how you present yourself and how serious you are.
