I am surprised at how alike the 2 cars are.

The only thing I think they have in common (besides being japanese turbo awd cars) is the fact that they're both "cheap speed" compared to the more expensive cars that they can outdo.

That said, the GT-R is a step above the X in about every objective way.

Skyrine, lmao!

The writer sounds a bit like the William Gibson of automotive journalism. Interesting read. Did he not get to drive the GT-R?

Yahman
02-27-2008, 02:26 AM
That was quite a whimsical story. By the way he talked about it, it almost sounded like he was upset that he wasn't the one driving the skyline... pretty emotional

:bowlol:

GTR is nice, but $70-90 g's... damn, if you got it, go for it.

I'm prayin for an EVO X babyeee! :godance:

Really? I think it is the worst view of the Evo. I love the front and side, but the rear needs some work. Too high, narrow, too econo-box, and the wing doesn't save it. Sure, it can grow on you, but I don't like it. Just one man's opinion.

No one else finds anything wrong with article but me... all he does is talk about how much better the GT-R is... These aren't in the same class, both car companies have said so. And on that note I will compare the GT-R to the Veryon, guess what the Veryon is better...

There seem to be NO reason for the Evo to even be in the write up. It was about one man's love for a car. I think it was written by Daniel Steele...

I think it was written by Daniel Steele... :)

Most articles I've read state that Nissan created the GTR this time around to directly compete pound for pound against the 911 Turbo.

Based on this I agree that a direct comparison probably isn't logical. However this article also goes on to show that for the $ value.. the evo is up there with the rest of them.

Each to their own.

I agree I was surprised when I saw that it was a comparison between these too cars. And I really did not like most of the wording of this article. It really seemed to beat around the bush, as a lot of these types articles do when they try to get all artsy and poetic. I get too interested when reading these things sometimes I need them to just come out and tell me like it is. I don't like to wait to the very last sentience for the whole thing to be summed up. I want info first, then maybe tell me a story if theres time left afterward. :shades:

You're absolutely right. It's all and well to compare an Evo to a GT-R if the writer could be absolutely impartial about it. We know the GT-R is heavier, more powerful and ultimately in a different price class than the Evo X.

I really had to read between the lines in this article to see him say that the Evo was better in the turns and on twisty roads due to its weight but then he goes on to say mournfully that it's not the GT-R.

It seems like a bad shake for the Evo X to get compared to the GT-R and the guy who wrote this article has taken almost every opportunity to say how flimsy the car is compared to the GT-R.

Owing to the fact that I own an Evo X and have put some kms on it already (read 2200) I can easily say that everything on the car feels very tight. From the steering, to the suspension, and yes, even the doors. In fact the doors feel fairly heavy compared to a Madza3 and even a VW Jetta that I drove around in last year. It takes very little force to close the door because of the momentum it gains on the Evo. I often find myself closing it too hard and that doesn't bother me because it doesn't feel flimsily built at all.

I honestly dont think people realize how big the markup price is on this car.... ya msrp 70-90k? um no... the markup starts around 160-170k in the U.S., think im full of crap? go to an EXOTIC car dealership (if you can find a place that has one) same goes with the R8 with an msrp of 120k, my uncle owns an exotic car dealership, it starts around 180k. like love9stick said compare the gt-r to a z06, better yet the new zr1. not an evo lol

which car are u talking about?
the official price in Italy of the GT-R is 75355 euro ($119000) so i'm pretty sure in Usa will be less than that.
(just to give u an idea, the evo X gsr is going to cost 45000 euro here, that's $70000)

Enjoitk
04-15-2008, 08:13 AM
pricing is completely different in other countries. supply and demand. the evo cost more money in europe than it does in the u.s. because we have so many of them. the gt-r cost so much money here because we have none of them lol. and did i just see you type 70k for an evo x gsr in the united states? plz tell you made a typo. my evox cost 33k out the door...

pegaso650
04-15-2008, 08:52 AM
sorry i didnt state im in Italy.
here we have plenty of Evo up to IX, which did cost 43000 euro ($67000).
up to now we dont have any GT-R at all and those going to book it now will receive it on spring 2009.
i meant here in Italy the X gsr is 45000 euro that is $70000, i know there in Usa is half the price. so as all other japanese and american cars, in Usa are half the price than here in Italy.

It's not supply and demand, its taxes and custom duties. The prices are prettiy much the same in almost all countries. 70K for an X in Russia too, for example. Only in US cars are sold at half price  :D

Enjoitk
04-15-2008, 05:52 PM
so taxes and customs are what make the car almost 100k markup on the gt-r? i believe it can make up for around half of that. (and yes thats what it is here in the U.S. ive seen the sticker). personally i dont think so lol, they just know filthy rich people are willing to pay that much for the gt-r. they know they are getting pretty much 0 of the cars in stock, why sell the only gtr they get for around the msrp price. its like the bmw 135i, base model 34.9k im pretty sure, but a base model at newport bmw is like 42k. i asked why so much? they said why not? people are willing to buy it

Mojito
04-15-2008, 06:11 PM
I wish they were markups, then I could negotiate/wait/or buy a car with less demand. But unfortunately high demand results in long wait times here for popula cars.
In my country prices are mostly set by the companies and not by dealers. You can, for example, check the prices for Chrysler lineup. This is Chrysler site, not a site of some deler:
http://www.chrysler.ru/prices.html
Then compare with US prices. No markups, just *&^%ing taxes...
When I was shopping for a 335i, a reasonably optioned car was just under 100k. In US it would be about 47K - that's, like, 30K Euros. Even in Germany it costs more than that.

Enjoitk
