My friend has a Evo 9 and he called cobb and they don't support/sell AP for Evo8 or Evo 9 anymore... is it true or am I'm being deceived...

I would doubt this is true, there's one easy way to find out though. Call them!

It is true. They have some APs in stock to use in case one that's in the wild goes bad (warranty purposes), but they are no longer selling them.

Just no market for them, or what? Love to know the reasoning.

Probably because the 8/9 are no longer in production and just about every evo evo out there is already tuned/flashed and molested. Plus those cars have been out long enough to where there aren't really any new mods being developed. It make mre sense to invest time/money into new cars/engines like the 4b11 and the new 370Z and GT-R and etc.

part of the reason is guys buying $13k Evo8s aren't going to spend $600 on an accessport when they can get a local tune for $200 (assuming the car isn't tuned to within an inch of it's life already).

This particular car was bought from a one owner that babied the thing. It was a older (40yr/old) and we knew first hand that it was not modded. Very rare find but I guess will have to get custom tune instead......

this is what most 40yr olds do with evoshttp://roadshowphotography.smugmug.com/Cars/alfa-romeo-club-march-21st/IMG2970/816286221_mbr2Y-O-1.jpg (http://roadshowphotography.smugmug.com/Cars/alfa-romeo-club-march-21st/11584883_MK28Q#816286221_mbr2Y)
most, not all, tend to learn from their mistakes, an older person with a car like that has probably figured out "tuning" is nowhere near as much fun as HPDEs

I'm sure you should be able to get one if your's broke. I can't believe they wouldn't sell them anymore. Seems like that would be a horrible move. Limitted production yes, but not stopping all together.

right off the Cobb site:

EVO 8 & 9 AccessPORT DiscontinuedThe AccessPORT for the EVO 8 and EVO 9 require a specialized OBD-II dongle that is not used in any other application. It is no longer cost effective for COBB Tuning to continue to manufacture this specialized dongle at the current EVO 8 and EVO 9 AccessPORT sales volumes.

This really turns me off from their product. I'm thinking about going with something else now.

It kinda pisses me off. I mean, it just seems like a shitty thing to do. What if the whole community jumps on board with the ap; what if they decided to not carry stuff anymore; where does that leave everyone? Seems like they should have limitted support but not get rid of it.

Yeah I guess I agree to a certain point, but it's all about money man. I mean we have great vendors here, but if they start making little to no money on a product I am sure they would cut their losses as well.

I mean they still have all the maps for download on the website, so...for now at least the "support" hasn't stopped totally.

yeah, but I hear that dongles go bad. If we can't get them from cobb, is there another place to get them?

good point, I guess the evo 8/9 owners would have to find one used in that case

I think at this point the AP is "done". There's no missing tables, it's 100% covered. Nothing is going to be changing on the cars, ala 2008->2010 Evo Xs.

True. I guess we have to assume that they have enough stock to cover warranty claims/replacement parts.

Realistically, there probably just aren't many out in the wild anymore.

Can you buy a working AP off someone and use it on your car or is the AP just for one car only.....

bradze

they would have to go back to stock

The AP is not even close to 100% table wise.

They have been discontinued for over a year for the 8/9.

My bad. I just assumed it was, given that the car has been out of production for 3 years now.

The '10 even has bugs that I've told them about and they've "reported it to engineering". The AP firmware has since been updated 2 times with 0 fixes to the bugs.

Here is an easy one to explain: Load Boost/Fuel only logs the value 32... ever. Never changes.
