im currently a porter at biggers mitsubishi here in IL, and i have seen the outlanders and I THINK some lancers with the navi package with a red white AND yellow component input (yellow for video). does anyone have the yellow input in their cubby hole? somebody perhaps check behind the panels? idk. i dont have an evo x but im thinking about getting one. and i would like it if i can get the yellow compnent input so i can play games int he car xD

I would think so, on the nav install DIY someone added a reverse camera.

I think technically, you're talking about an RCA cable. I think component refers to separate cables for each color.

I think it should have a video in...

Perhaps PDXEvo could chime in here? He's fooled around with it before.

For some reason the Evo X does not have the yellow component in the cubby. However, this is easy to add, since the input exists for it already on the deck.

Single yellow video cable is called composite video.

the video signal is called composite.

I bought my gts and had the nav installed after, this meant my gts didn't have the composite input on the box. Well i wanted it so i could play music video's.

Anyway, I went out to radio shack and bought an rca connector (the L/R audio and video input are all RCA). I took out the nav unit, pulled out the "box" that contains the inputs. Opened it up. the circuit board is already properly wired, all you need to do is solder the new RCA connector on. I then soldered a few pins to plug into the harness connector that connects to the back of this box. Put the nav back in and hooked up my ipod and worked like a charm.

It really is about the simplest thing to do, although I'm an EE so that might help. (OH and you have to cut out a little hole in the cover for the rca connector to stick through so you have access from inside the car, but thats a no brainer)

Anyway, just got my X today and i had the dealer swap my nav unit from my gts into the gsr... so again my box doesn't have video.

Anyway, if i decided to do the mod again I'll take some pics. Although I'd bet you could just look up that part number and order a box from mitsu and replace it with the existing one and have your video input. if its not listed for the evo just get the lancer one.

Aright guys...

I'll probably do the mod, but I'm working out of town the next couple weeks and my cars is getting repaired now anyway.

Trust me though, if this is something you want to do you can do it real easy.

There are how too's on this forum and others that show how to remove the navigation unit. Simply put you remove the glove box, then the "faux" carbon fiber trim, then the panel with the hazard button on it, then the "cover" over the nav unit.
Then you unscrew and remove the nav unit and unplug the harnesses. (unplugging the harnesses was probably the most challengin part cause they're a bit stubburn.)

EDIT
Follow this how to to remove the nav:
http://www.evoxforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2517

anyway, once the nav is out reach down through the hole where the nav was and to where the Aux input is located. You'll feel a smal plastic box with tabs on the left and right. squeeze the tabs and push the box forward into the car. then unplug the harness in the back of the box.

Now look at the harness and you will see that it has 6 pins, but 5 wires leading from it. 3 on the left(drivers side) and 2 on the right. if you look at the connector on the back of the box you will see that it only has 3 pins on it that connect to the 3 pins on the drivers side. The other 2 wires that aren't connected are for the video signal.

So... you take the box and open it up and you will see that there is a spot for a RCA connector to attach to on the Printed circuit board. Just buy any RCA connector and a random chip with longer pins (I got both from radio shack). Solder the rca to the circuit board (use the other 2 RCA connectors as reference). The solder the pins in the proper place to plug into the harness.

Put the box back together, take it back to your car, plug it into the harness, hook the nav back up, put all the trim back on. Turn on your car and hook up your video Ipod or whatever and watch all the music videos you want.

I know this may seem a bit overwhelming... but anyone with any experience soldering will be able to EASILLY figure out how to do it. Anyway, when I get around to it I'll post some pics and a better how to. If you can't wait 2-3 weeks till that point then hopefully this is good enough.

Waiting for pics and a how to that follows the guidelines ;) I have been planning on adding this to my car, but I haven't yet since I want to disable the screen blanking while the car is in motion first.

Sorry guys, I have been working out of town and haven't had much time or a chance to do this. As soon as I get a chance I will and will take some pics. Also have been thinking about installing the switch to disable the video cut-out feature, but I know I've seen how-to's on that.

If you could make the switch how to, that would be much appreciated.

I'm glad you revived this. I'm sorry, i still haven't gotten around to doing this. I was supposed to travel from my company and they told me it was going to be fr 3 weeks... going on 5 months now. I'm only home for saturday and sunday and I'm pretty busy and spend most of the time with my girlfriend who I've been dating for 5 years and living with for 4 years. So shes taking this travelling pretty badly and so i just have not had the chance to really work on my baby (the X of course). Although she has to work this saturday and sunday. So i'm tracking the X on saturday and maybe will do this on sunday if I ever gey out of bed. A long nights sleep sounds really good right now.

UNACCEPTABLE!!!! Teh intarwebz demand your devotion!!!

:jk:

I totally understand man. I have to travel for work sometimes as well and the wife hates it. 5 months is just insanity though, I feel for you.

Have fun at the track saturday (i'm jealous!) and if you get to this sunday, rock on, if not we'll just hound you endlessly

i realized i wanted the yellow rca as well. All i did was take out the circuit board the L and R rca's were on and broke one of my dvd players and took a yellow rca out of it. i soughtered it on the circuit board because there was a 3rd place for it on the board with the circuitry. then just got another fork and sougtered it where the yellow rca was connected to the circuit board.
i have pictures i can post of it if youd all like and if there is not already a write up on it i could provide that too.

all in all, it really wasnt worth it cause you can only bypass the dvd player with the .kwi files to "update" the navi, to drive. while in aux mode, i have yet to find a way to bypass it other than maybe you could possibly create a switch to trun off and on the gps on the nav.
oh well..

I'll try and write it up again at work. And make another pretty drawing... dammit!

I got this to work off of the instructions from before. I just wanted to post some pictures for people who are visual.

Here is the Printed circuit board with the original red and white and new installed yellow rca plug from radioshack and forks from an IR sensor from radio shack too.

http://www1.picturepush.com/photo/a/3613064/640/3613064.jpg

The back side of the chip. the oval is the "ground" and the pin is the smaller opening in the chip.

Just wanted to thank you for posting the how to. and it works!

Haha! I just did this over the weekend and took photo's too. I'll add more to show what is needed but you got the important part.
