Remember when the EVO-8 1st came out, the most popular form of tunning
was with using a Apexi SAFC-2 Piggyback. For people who dont plan on
modding until the 36k mile mark is near. With the EVO-X running so rich I think
the SFAC-2 is the best bang for the bucks and will net alot of power just by leaning it out alittle, and very simple to tune.
Anyone try this? Or the new ECU dont let us tap in like that anymore?

I think the new ECU is too smart for it, and honestly, it's not worth hacking up your wires when you can spend a few more bucks and get one that can flash via OBD-II

This is very true. Several big tuners have already stated that they do not recommend going this route with the X. The X has an advanced PCM that is constantly adjusting, so this method would be tough anyway.

The best piggy back to use to "semi tune" the X would be the AEM FIC.
You do have to tap ECU wires.
This should be good enough until the AEM EMS comes out in a few weeks/ months

AEM is a no go for me though. I cant pass DEQ with it, and I am unfamiliar with how well it deals with MIVEC technologies. The stock ECU on the X seems to be very advanced, though we wont know for sure until we get a better look at it. Do you know if you lose the ACD and AYC systems when you remove the PCM and go AEM? If this is the case, then this wouldn't make sense at all.

acd and ayc are some of the things that make our evo one of a kind. i think id rather keep those then going for a custom tune.

I am very curious as to whether or not we lose those advanced functions by replacing the PCM with a standalone. I am not an expert, by any means, on the operations that occur on the CAN bus in this car, or any other CAN bus type car. However, from a simple view, it looks like it will be more detrimental to put in a standalone on this car then it was on the previous Evo's.

My "personal" opinion ONLY....
I think AEM is already ahead of the game as far as keeping AYC/ACD.
The stand alone features will be far greater for making power, and getting rid of the rich fuel maps and making the EVO X perform to it's full potential.
So "I" don't think you will lose those features.

I guess I am not too concerned about this, since I don't plan on going with a replacement ECU system anyway. I have never been happy with the drive ability of the stand alone ECU's. It would be nice if they are able to get them to work with the other ECU's already in the car via the CAN bus.
