: Not thrilled with my detail results, please help
draz46 04-15-2010, 04:26 AM Hi guys, went to get my X detailed cause I had some Bird Crap from hell that refused to come off and the winter was pretty rough here in NYC.So I went in for a $99 deal around my way cause I saw a Porche around my neighborhood that they did ,the result was good.Left my car at the detailers for like 10hours.So pick up my car and didn't really inspect it thoroughly cause I was in a rush as a result from the detail shop being behind on my car and I had to be at a BBall Gym to open up.
Long story short as I was driving I noticed the windshield still had the bird crap on it among other places and it seems like there's a lot of swirls on the windshield as the on coming headlights are hitting my window.Upon further inspection there seems to be more swirls in my paint and there's wax residue all over the place.I called up the shop and the detail guy said it's impossible cause he cleaned the windshield himself and maybe a bird shit on my car as I was driving.:priceless:So is it my imagination or is it normal after a detail to have more swirls in the paint? Detail Gurus please help cause I want some affirmation I'm right before I go postal on that shop tomorrow morning.
elementalcode 04-15-2010, 04:29 AM If there were swirls then he didnt do a good job at all and its a fail on his part :ghey:
Ttsumibishi 04-15-2010, 03:13 PM Windshield is one thing - maybe he didn't wipe it properly or applied a rain-x type treatment incorrectly leaving a hazy residue, or some other product that didn't wipe off.
If you honestly think you have more swirls in the paint than before, you should bring the car into the shop, have them wipe down a small section and re-detail it in front of you and see if maybe the swirls are just residue, glaze or something.
It is definitely possible they caused more swirls with a bad detailing job, but don't be too quick to jump to that conclusion unless you definitely see more swirls in the paint now than before, and they don't come out. Perhaps it was a bad employee that's not very skilled. If that's the case, you might be entitled to a refund or a full detailing and paint correction by another detailer at the establishment.
What steps did the $99 detail job include?
draz46 04-16-2010, 01:41 AM I brought in the car again this morning and had the owner of the place looked at it.He said it wasn't a good job so he do it again.Had to go to work so I left it there the whole day.I'll get it back tomm. cause they would be closed by the time I get out.I had no ride to work so I guess the kid who I talked to the day before (who did the job) felt guilty and gave me a ride in his "Skyaltima"....Which led to a very surreal experience.Being in a Ricer's brain and in his car at the same time is indeed a scary thing.I asked him how long he has been working there and he said "4 or 5 months" Mind you his "sweet GTR/Altima is like 3 or 4 colors from his own hands. So,Oh Oh.This guy actually touched my X with a buffer???? I continue to ask him questions like the ass that I am as I struggle to put on my seatbelt. He informs me to forget the seat belt cause he took apart the panel and couldn't put it back on.My mind wonders to my change holder that was stuffed and put on backwards and the answer is clear...So I ask how'd he find the place and he says that he used to work at the Pool (Swimming Pool Parts)place around the corner and was a customer at the shop, hung around long enough the shop until he got hired.....He plans to polish the intake and possible gain 15hp out of just polishing the inside.Scary indeed.
So TT,make up your own mind from my little story through RiceLand if those swirls were there before or after.I'm not Obsessive Compulsive about things, but when it comes to me X I'm as anal as a porn star.I know every scratch and ding as I think most of us do.I get the car back as I said in the morning.God please help me!Prey for my Eve.
crimson49er 04-16-2010, 01:45 AM i wouldnt expect damage, but a $99 "detail" i wouldn't expect much more than a wash, wax & interior. a real detail job costs much more than $99...i would have been suspicious based on the price alone

Definitely scary. I know most of us are very much in-tune with our cars and what's wrong with them (eg paint). It definitely sounds like this guy should not be anywhere near a product that can screw up a customer's paint job until he has more experience. Is the shop taking care of the swirls for you at least, buffing them all out with no charge? If so, it's good to hear a shop stands by its work and takes care of a botched detailing job.

Hahaha

Hence why I was curious what the $99 detailing involved. If any detail job cost $99 and involved power tools, I would be very skeptical about the quality of such work. However, a hand wash and wax, done right, for $99? Sure, I could see it. In the end, however, it's always going to come down to the individual performing the service. No matter where you go, there will always be people employed at an establishment that have no reason being there. :)
A typical $99 detail at a retail shop is not going to be very good. I would not go there again. Look for a real detailer.

Oakes' threads are better than pr0n. Yes, that's what a real complete detailing job looks like.
