Hey guys,

Just picked up my 2010 X on Monday and am debating whether to run it or keep my current auto-x car. I have a 1987 BMW 325is that is fully prepped for Auto-X but people are telling me to run the X instead. The BMW is fun but i'm worried about ruining the new car. Let me know from any of you guys that run your X and if it gets banged up from the cones and also tire setups.

Thanks in advance

JD

How many miles do you have on the car? I broke mine in for the first 1500 mile. I hit 1500 and the next day was at the auto x.

My wife runs her's religiously. In fact our next AutoX down here is 5/16/10. Conage? it rubs off. She currently runs Dulop Direzza Star Specs in the stock size on the stock suspension... No issues. If you have any other questions just ask.

i just got it last monday and have been driving it as much as i can, i got 350 so far. My plan was to just run stock class as it is a decent setup already. I know my BMW has eaten a few cones and has lost little parts here and there ( lost the left fog light at yesterdays event) so i'm just a little worried that the X will get messed. Any thoughts on damages or scratches to the car?

Issues with autox'ing the X:
- It eats tires
- If you're bucky cone killer already then the X will make it worse since it's so wide. The worst damage I've seen is that the bumper pops out and I broke my foglight mounts.
- You're gonna destroy the clutch (likely).

I would say it will eat tires. Have the alignment checked prior to competing. Its effed from the factory usually. Another thing I would do is turn the ASC to "Full off" meaning push the ASC button and hold it until the warning message pops up in the dash display. Will make your runs more enjoyable and you will have much less understeer.

If you are tracking the car you should remove the foglights to allow better airflow to the brakes.

in autox it's not legal to remove them until you get to SM (that is if you play by the rules) and taking out the fog lights won't put more air onto the brakes. There's a fender liner in the way.

My '08 Evo X MR is my only car, and I just had my second solo event this last Saturday. It is an absolute blast on the track. Cones aren't too much of an issue, but I also have a custom installed full clear bra... a little bit of time in the sun fixes any surface blemishes. It does eat tires, like others have said, but that may be just the factory Yokos, or my driving style.

I would say take it out once and see what you think.

Also, do you have a GSR, or an MR?

Oh for the love of... well, whatever!! Just take the car out and run it. If you can't afford to replace the tires when the time comes you really can't afford the car! And the stock yokos don't last long anyway. When the wife and I went to an HPDE last October, the yokos got all chewed to hell while my Direzza Star Specs barely noticed. The A13s are just not that durable. If you drive this car the way it was meant to be driven, you will be replacing soon regardless.

As for cones, if a cone can take out your foglight, what the hell kind of cones are you hitting!! I had to run into a concrete curb before I noticed any damage from doing AutoX. Everything else just rubs off.

Maybe you're not going fast enough!

I punted a cone a good 60 yards one time by hitting it in 3rd gear.

I think you guys are right, I'm going to first figure out my car situation and see if the guy is interested in buying my BMW then I can focus on driving the X. Next order of business to co drive with an X to get a feel for what awd is all about.

I've punted cones, run them over, dragged then 300 ft. That's no problem... I saw one guy sideswipe a cone and knock over a course worker. But damage to my car from a cone??? Scuff marks! It'll buff out. Concrete curb, now that's something to worry about.
