: Interesting observation on my Fast Key...
antics22 03-03-2008, 11:22 PM If my Palm Centro phone is in the same pocket as the key fob, my fast key will not work.
If I take my phone out... then the fast key system works...
This only happens with my Palm centro too. If I have my work Motorola Krzr in the same pocket, all works as usual...
I can only guess that my Palm Centro emits more electronic noise....
hmmm....
kidneythief13 03-03-2008, 11:26 PM Huh, that's odd... nice to hear about the Krzr being okay, as this is what I have.
Even weirder, but I have yet to personally test this:
Have you ever locked your keys in the car? Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).
Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a cell phone!"
antics22 03-03-2008, 11:32 PM lol at the cell-phone unlocking thing... I always thought it was an urban legend/myth.
Never got to try it, but I always heard from a friend of a friend's cousin that it works...
kidneythief13 03-03-2008, 11:48 PM I have no idea.
antics22 03-03-2008, 11:50 PM On topic though, try your KRZR in the same pocket as your remote... tell me if your Fast key still works... I think the centro puts out way more electro-magnetoic-waves-of-a-thingy!
kidneythief13 03-03-2008, 11:55 PM I sadly do not have a X yet, I'm anxiously awaiting an MR.
on2it 03-03-2008, 11:56 PM I had an I-mate in my pocket, I suspect that is what broke my key.. I needed a new one after that.
Jackygor 03-04-2008, 12:11 AM So cellular phone + fast key = nono?
TRUSTcompany9000 03-04-2008, 12:35 AM That key thing is awesome lol I love it! I had to try it after I read this, and it totally worked for me too haha!
kidneythief13 03-04-2008, 12:41 AM ^ what key thing? The weird unlocking through the phone or the non-working remote because of interference?
antics22 03-04-2008, 12:44 AM So cellular phone + fast key = nono?
not quite sure about all cell phones... all i know is that it defenitely does not play nice in the same pocket with my palm Centro...
TRUSTcompany9000 03-04-2008, 01:05 AM Works fine with my iphone.
TRUSTcompany9000 03-04-2008, 01:06 AM ^ what key thing? The weird unlocking through the phone or the non-working remote because of interference?
The unlocking through the phone.
Juz10 xD 03-04-2008, 01:10 AM hey is your centro a gsm or cdma? im gonna try this cellphone thing.
synthtk 03-14-2008, 04:34 AM I have the same issue sometimes with my Sprint Touch, but it is not unique to the Mitsu FAST key, my old C6 Corvette had a similar RF key setup (slightly better as it auto locked the car too) and had the same issue. If the key is in front of the phone it doesn't seem to be an issue for me but if the phone is in front of the key it doesn't work at all.
ddawg1130 03-14-2008, 04:36 AM Damn, you went C6 to evo? my goal is to eventual get my vette someday.
PDXEvo 03-14-2008, 04:44 AM Huh, that's odd... nice to hear about the Krzr being okay, as this is what I have.

I dont see how this can even be possible. The remote key is sending out an analog RF signal, that is somehow going to transfer over a cell phone via the speaker, into a cell tower, through some routing equipment (where its digitized), too another cell tower back in analog form, to your cell phone, then to the receiver on the car? Not possible, though it does make a good story.

Yeah... I am a bit backwards :) Vette was an awesome car, and honestly I was sad to let it go, but wanted something new and getting in an X reminded me how much fun my 1G DSM AWD was.

No, I know it sounds weird.:p TrustCompany said it worked, but don't know if he was just fuckin w/me. I tried it & it FAILED.
xPRimNT 03-17-2008, 03:39 PM I don't see how it would work either.
But it did work once. I had actually just read that it was an "interesting fact" about your cell phone, and had to go try it.
I wasn't miles and miles away, but I was out of normal range for my remote. Maybe I'll try to get someone to unlock the car through my spare key at home...
PDXEvo 03-17-2008, 04:57 PM For a simple RF based remote, you can put it to your chin and increase the range. You are just using your body as an antenna.
adnan626 03-19-2008, 03:32 AM FAST key doesn't work when it's in the same pocket as Plantronics 655 bluetooth headset...odd. Or Nokia N73 or N95.
Thuan 03-19-2008, 06:25 AM Iphone and Keyfob in same pocket, My keyless will not work, Tested many time to make sure,
Jackygor 03-19-2008, 06:37 AM You guys reported this to mitsubishi yet?
antics22 03-19-2008, 05:30 PM thanks for bringing this back to topic.
I havent reported it to Mitsu because in the owners manual, theres already a disclaimer that the FOB can interfere with other items within proximity, etc etc.
It was just an observation on my part when I first got the car. Not a biggie. Now I just keep my phone in my other pocket and all is groovy.
Its intersting that my Motorola Krzr doesnt interfere though. I wonder if it has to do with the Smartphones being connected to the data stream for emails, etc...
PDXEvo 03-19-2008, 07:33 PM You know whats really neat. If I put my key with the key from my Prius, which is also a fob, the key doesnt work ;)
Tunerhead 04-06-2008, 04:55 AM I read somewhere in the owners manual about this fob frequency conflict with certain devices.
