What kind of brake pads would you guys recommend. Are the stock ones soft or what? The stock wheels are already covered in brake dust. My friend who has a 335i has the same problem with his soft brakes.

From what I remember reading in one of the older tech articles, a tuner in Japan stated that he does not recommend changing brake pads because it will upset the ASC/AYC. I can see the logic in this but I'm not 100% convinced yet.
Does anyone else remember this? I can't find the article.

I too remember reading about that.

Remember reading that article as well I hope to get a published comparison or atleast an idea...on the sensitivity of the system cause i know id like to do the steel braided brake lines but if pads alone will screw the system up what else will...

Ye, and cross drilled / slotted rotors. Maybe we can just drill our OEM ones.

would'nt that affect the quality of them.

depends I'm sure if machined properly the only affect would be the brake rotors durability....itd have better cooling...but I think theres more to cross drilling a rotor then just drilling holes the thickness is different I believe

On my last car, my cd/s rotors had lots of holes, but they were tapered...concave....dunno how else to explain it. A gradual hole? Pilot hole then wider at the top? Someone pull a pic up.

I suggest you read up on brakes. Drilling rotors yourself is a bad idea, even by the most professional machine shop. The reason being is that the rotors are manufactured smooth, and were never designed to be drilled or slotted. Drilling smooth rotors could lead to them cracking, and playing connect the dots.
Also you will NOT see an improvement in stopping distances, or brake fade. If anything you'll probably be increasing your stopping distances. A smooth surface has the most bite area from the brakepads, followed by slotted rotors, and then drilled rotors receiving about 85% of that of a smooth surface rotor.
Also, cross drilled rotors are somewhat outdated, slotted is the way to go with todays braking technology. Better bite area, and similar gas dispersion. Just go out and buy some new slotted rotors (or drilled if you want that look) that are designed for your car. I'm sure Brembo offers brand name rotors for your car.

We are very experienced in selling brakes &c to the German car guys. I am not advertizing, just sharing our experience.
Hawks are dusty and with some compounds tend to leave an unremovable residue when used hard in wet conditions - unremovable in that no amount of effort short of bead blasting removes it - DTC series is better in this regard. Their street ceramics squeel like pigs but are good stopping, long lasting and virtually nondusting (yes we have antiseized the he11 out of them to min squeeling!); if it weren't for the noise we would rate them a perfect street pad.
Nearly all our performance guys have gone to Performance Friction: street guys the Carbon Z cpd and racers the various 01, 03, & 07 cpds. The success has been phenomenal! I was always a Pagid guy so I resisted this until I tried a set; now I'm a convert. Price is HIGH but wear is best, dust is minimal, performance will suck your eyeballs out, rotor wear is minimal even in the race pads! Other pads we have had success with are:
Ferodo - great stopping but dusty and pads wear quickly with little rotor wear
Pagid - great stopping but dusty with good pad wear and little rotor wear
AXXISS Ultimates - street only guys love them for wear low dust but melt at track
BTW, ask your vendor to source the Performance Friction 2 piece rotors - they are incredible. Don't know if they are available for the Evo X yet but our BMW and Porsche guys love them!
I am not stating this is gospel but unlike private users I do have hundreds of data points to support these claims. Use the info as you see fit when buying pads from your supplier; he'll probably confirm this for the pads he carries.
Oh yeah, don't drill your rotors nor buy "drilled" rotors - they crack when used hard ala track - go with slotted rotors please.
