'Jack' saw the "Batman X" vid on youtube and decided he wanted big numbers as well. The Joker was always Batman's counterpart and this build fits the storyline..

damn thats nice. I would love to have a built motor
MicMcKee 05-01-2010, 11:49 PM Haha wouldn't we all?
What would it cost to have a shop built the motor? DIY? This is one of the things that I am going to be doing in the future and would just like to get an estimate
ak47m203 05-02-2010, 02:37 AM so how big is this motor now?
Excalibur 05-02-2010, 02:53 AM Good numbers. Thanks for following the rules.
on2it 05-02-2010, 02:59 AM brill numbers man.

It's in the 'if you have to ask you can't afford it' range. A Buschur/AMS long-block can easily set you back $8k then you're looking at maybe $3k in labor for the r&r. The blocks come bare so there's a lot of parts to transfer over. I know locally the labor would be more than $3k but many of you live in less expensive parts of the country.
I went with drop-ins to keep the motor in the car, still into it for $7k or so.
SkyFlakes 05-02-2010, 01:52 PM nice work ricky and crew!
mlomker 05-02-2010, 02:11 PM 30psi on pump is insane. You guys have some killer pump gas out East.

Wrong again.... :bowlol:
These are 'drop-in' pistons and rods.... Motor Doesn't have to come out of the car.
This customer also got a new ACT clutch with the upgraded diff pins in the tranny. It was just easier to pull the whole enchilada and take care of it outside of the car.
Nice. That is what i am looking for

the buschur shortblock isnt that expensive.
mlomker 05-02-2010, 05:29 PM Wrong again.... :bowlol:
He was asking about a Buschur short-block install.
the buschur shortblock isnt that expensive.
Nope, but the labor is the same either way...everything has to come out. If you haven't already popped the motor then it'll be cheaper to do drop-ins. It takes time to file rings and all that jazz but spending a few thousand is a whole lot cheaper than throwing a rod.

shortblock is 2900 and labor is 1600.

Okay, you're talking about sending in your good core (and having your car down for who knows how long). Sure, that plus shipping. I was talking about a brand new short or long block. A friend of mine threw a rod so those are the prices that I've been looking at.
That sounds like cheaper labor than is available in my area. It's $720 just for a clutch around here.
It was just easier to pull the whole enchilada and take care of it outside of the car.
Totally...if I'd timed the motor work with my clutch then I'd probably have a 2.2 ltr right now.

The ETS exhaust was amazing. We ordered up the full TBE including the divorced o2 housing--- It flowed really well....

No idea, I haven't done anything with the car yet. Waiting to hear back from local shops on their ideas and my options with the car.
It is just sitting dripping oil right now.
If my head is alright I will probably be buying a shortblock otherwise I will have more to think about.

I paid about the same but had local shops do it (drops-ins and a built head from MAP).

Brand new shortblock from mitsu is about 1500-1600... Half of that for a used shortblock... What kind of budget did you set aside for yourself?

Well, that's interesting. Buschur must have a $1k mark-up in there...hard to believe that balancing the crank is worth that much.

If you do less typing and more reading you might learn a thing or two.

I read almost every post on this forum (and quite a few others). I can't learn anything until you post it. ;)

It's not a "Mark-up" if he spends his time applying his years of experience to the build. A mark-up is someone buying a part and 'drop-shipping' it to you for more than it cost them,,, but then again this is America right?

I've spent many thousands in labor at this point. My drop-ins are from Buschur. I prefer their prices to AMS. When you buy AMS you are supporting a whole lot of sponsored racers every time that you buy some of their stuff. I still have one of their intakes but that doesn't mean I'd buy a motor from them.
Based on the pricing that you mentioned, a used short-block and a set of drop-ins should be somewhere in the $2k's (with installation labor). Offhand that seems like an interesting option for a fix. A fresh block with drop-ins would be in the low $3k's, also a lot cheaper than $4400.

Looks like you learn fast after all. :godance::dancebanana::rock::clap::thumbup:
Murlo26 05-03-2010, 02:21 AM I don't have an amount set aside yet...i have like 4k right now i can drop but it will undoubtedly go up from there to include labor etc.
Plus if i do indeed build the block i mind as well do the head as well. And then i need to decide about a bigger turbo to utilize said block. Lots to think about still.
Evooooo 05-03-2010, 03:03 PM Im gettin my E-Spec tune for my red very very soon :)
peruevox 08-11-2010, 05:31 AM what kind of rods this car have?? h beams or i beams
