Six things that suck about the article:
1. they say the lack of games for the PS3 is because 'the hardware is very different'. They are all (ps3, wii, xbox360) running on the PowerPC architecture last I read into it. The sixxaxis control can't be what makes it 'very different' because it's just a tilt sensor inside a controller (what a joke)
2. They say the wii is underpowered.. underpowered for ports of games released for the 360 and PS3, yes of course. It's a very different console though, it's not for that audience at all.
3. ok I guess there was only two things.. most of the other stuff I wholeheartedly agree with. I especially laugh at the lack of rear usb ports on the ps3 :P.. but why no mention of the awful cheap method of recharging the controllers? congrats for using a standard mini usb cable, but having a bunch of cables snaking out the front of the console to charge 4 controllers is a pain.. at least for the wii you can get two of the 2-controller nyko charge stations and be on your way, nice and organized with no wires to deal with, just place controller in dock and go

the wii controller price does suck a bit too.. want to be able to have 2-player gameplay on any wii games + virtual console games? spend 20 on the classic controller for your included controller, then 80 dollars to buy a second controller, nunchuk, and classic controller. Of course, you could just use old gamecube controllers if you have them or buy used gamecube controllers for a couple bucks, but then you're corded

I do agree that the Wii online experience really sucks compared to the xbox 360, but Microsoft has the seniority advantage in that realm. They've been doing online stuff since the Original xbox (at that time, they had the advantage that they came onto the scene when high speed internet connectivity was becoming the norm so they could integrate it into their product easily), and on the 360 they made it amazing. I played around with one of my roommate's 360s and it's seriously impressive. If nintendo would integrate a handful of features (the buddy list stuff mainly.. like being able to see 'oh hey, <INSERT NAME> is playing <INSERT GAME> on his console.. I'll message him and see if he wants to do multiplayer with me', but also the downloadable games that aren't just ports from old consoles .. new and unique stuff like geometry wars and other fun timewasters) they could easily match the online experience at least from the gaming side of things.. the movie stuff nintendo won't do because they want it to be 'about the games', though the media center connectivity on the 360 is a big selling point for many people.

It may just have poor development tools.

I disagree.

1-the Wii is underpowered. Face it. Never in the history of game consoles has there been such a profound difference in terms of console power for the major players than there is now. The gap between the PS3/Xbox 360 and the Wii is HUGE.

Historically you had the NES/master system, the Genesis/SNES, PS1/N64, etc. Obviously there were some power differences all along, but never to this extent.

Furthermore, The Wii is targeted to EVERYONE, and "everyone" includes the guys who want better graphics. Myself included.

I mean, it was one thing for Nintendo to opt out of Hi-def this time around. Kinda sucks, but I can deal with 480p. However, at minimum, I should be seeing some kickass 480p graphics, and the Wii doesn't even deliver that. I gladly would have paid more for a more beefy Wii. Wow, that sounds gay.

True.

Seniority has little to do with it. You and I can both come up with a better online system than nintendo has thus far for the Wii.

If nintendo would integrate a handful of features (the buddy list stuff mainly.. like being able to see 'oh hey, <INSERT NAME> is playing <INSERT GAME> on his console.. I'll message him and see if he wants to do multiplayer with me',

Exactly. That would be key.

And not for nothing, a better Mii interaction would be nice too. Make a quasi-watered down sims thing with them where you can interact and such.

If you expected a $250 (profitable) console to perform like a $600 (sold at a 300+ dollar loss at launch) console, then I dunno. It was well known that the Wii was basically the power of two gamecubes strapped together (hence the dev kit was just gamecubes :P )

As for a better online experience. Sure I could code it in a weekend, but scalable for use with millions all over the world, no friggin way. It's not a simple little project, that's for sure.

I never said that.

But how about a $300 console that's sold at a $50 loss instead?

I hear ya, but Nintendo can pull it off.

It's been around for a year+ more than the wii (you're talking about the 360, right? is the $300 one with hard drive now and wireless controllers and such? I'm honestly considering buying one but it won't have gran turismo 5 so there's no point) so they've had a lot more time for their online environment to mature. I'm still crossing my fingers that it'll get better on the wii. I want them to code multiplayer virtual console games to enable online multiplayer.. i.e. map controller 2 during this SNES game to this wii code on the interweb :)

No, I was saying that they should have put $350 worth of parts into the Wii, and sold it for $300. That way it had more longevity.

The Wii wasn't graphically impressive on launch day. It's going to look ten times worse in four years.

In 8 years, the PS3 will look like crap, and it cost more than twice as much as a wii.. :P

though I believe it was a Sony exec who said the PS3 will be around for TEN years.. o_O

Yeah, he did, but Sony is retarded in many aspects.

Either way, I fear that the Wii will die off in the long haul after high def is more established and such. The Wii will just look worse and worse over time.

oh well, it wasn't a big investment or anything :) the logic works both ways

I got my fun out of it so I'm happy.

plus I haven't bought into high def anything.. since I'm not a big movie person and other than movies and high def games it's pretty useless. I don't need to see every pore on the skin of the local newscasters each night, cartoons will look the same, etc

My brother is a game designer and hates the PS3 with a passion. Sony pretty much demands that you utilize the lame as tilt sensor in every game. Then the resources are so spread out on the ps3 that the coding is impossible. He could obviously explain it much better then I can but he would agree that the hardware is VERY different.

I gotta say, watching TV in high def is really nice.

:P I bought an xbox 360 about an hour ago to play the orange box.. now I want to return it all but gamestop's site says they don't accept any returns of anything that has been opened.

I had read online that you could play multiplayer to PC players (for team fortress)..

and yeah well.. you can't. Valve had it working in their labs but didn't put it into the final product. kinda pissed now >_< as I could have just bought orange box for PC and played it on my laptop (nvidia quadro graphics card.. it can play it, just at 800x600 and not any great framerate :P

now I'm sad. anyone want a brand new xbox 360, only used for about 45 minutes? it's the new bundle that comes with forza 2 and some other crap game, has an hdmi out, etc.
