How many of you guys are familiar with the OpenECU stuff that was developed for the VIII and IX? I used it a lot to tune my VIII, and several other VIII's around PDX. I am pretty happy with what it has to offer, but i dont expect it to be out for the X anytime soon.

So,
Do we have any other do it yourself tuners here?

Well, I can't say that I am a DIY tuner, since I haven't had a car that is "tunable" before.

However, when the OpenECU software is available for the X and once I've done enough research to feel comfortable, I most certainly WILL be a DIY.

I look forward to the weekends of 3rd gear pulls, logging and the like. I'd rather do it myself and learn while tuning, than take it to a shop and have them do it. Besides, I don't think there are many places around here that even have AWD dynos, let alone places that I could have it properly tuned.

Since I'm new to this world, I won't be rushing into anything. Besides, I like to follow tutorials to get a basic idea of what I should be doing and why I'm doing it!

It wouldn't be a bad idea to take it to a shop for the initial tune and so that they can teach you some basics. After that, DIY. :)

I dabble in OpenECU for my RaceCar. Would hope to do the same for the X when available.

Is it OK to tune it with just 600 miles. Or should I wait for at least 2000/3000miles to get it some break in (maybe the A/F already leaner by then)

I would wait for the 2k mark personally. Reason being, I am not sure if its true or not, but I have heard from reliable sources, that there is a factory break in program on the ECU that runs for the first 1500 miles. If its true, then you should get past that point first.

Guys I should have some base numbers up this Friday from our ECU product for the EVO X. I have had in on the car for more than a week now, several hundred miles, and no hiccups. The upper end changes are INCREDIBLE with just basic changes to the AFR. This week we will go for more succinct numbers. Plus the product will be available in about two weeks for the group here, and MSRP is rumored to be in the $500-600 range. WE will be the ONLY company offering this product for the car!

I know I am a tease!

Whatever the solution is, I am sure it will get its own thread ;)
