I had to have a felt (moleskin) lining on the interior of the window replace the normal rubber one.

I heard that you're actually better off with no moleskin at all.

What is moleskin? Ive had a few of my cars tinted by a shop using 3m tint. One has tint on it for 10 years now and havent had problems with any of my tints.

The tint can't get scratched if nothing is touching it lol

I'm having the dealer tint my windows at a steal and they told me they're gonna have to cut away at the inner molding on the inside of the car so that it doesn't touch the tint and scratch it. I'm having the service manager ask if the tinter knows about moleskin, but if he doesn't, is cutting away at it gonna affect me in any way?

I had the 3m crystalline tint installed, and it is getting scratched. Getting it redone (warranty) and have them install this moleskin thingy. Annoying.

Its just felt strips along the hard rubber areas, specifically the area close to the side view mirrors. There is a lot of pressure on that spot, so its easy for the rubber to eventually scratch the tint. Especially if you have a lot of dust / dirt built up.

Cool, thanks, I'll just let em know if there's moleskin go for it, if not, cutting it is cool too.

NO NO!!

Don't cut your inner weather strip out! Don’t EVER cut those inner wipers. You will get water inside your door panel. It will turn rotten and start to smell like mildew.

With the weather strip cut out you will also get lots of wind noise into the car.

The ONLY option for scratched tint on the X is to buy the Tint Protector Kit. It's VERY easy to install and will last forever.

Whatever you do, don’t cut anything. If you have already I would buy new ones and install the moleskin from Tint Protector fast. The Tint shops do it and say it’s ok so they don’t have to be liable for new tint when yours scratches. That’s bad business IMHO.

The one on the inside of the car? *not sounding like a jerk* but how does water get into the door panel, if they cutting part of the strip on the inside of the car?

My windows are tinted dark at 6%. Its been maybe 5 months and i have so many scratches. Had a rsx for years and no scratches. Wonder if darker tint can scratch faster or easier than lighter tint. Im deff going to have to buy the tint protector.

you need to expand the interior rubber lining of the window so it doesn't rub against the tints.. also, i'd suggest using the moleskin so you don't scratch your tints..

I heard that you're actually better off with no moleskin at all.

I am beginning to feel the same way. It hasn't been even an year since I had mine "professionally" installed. The glue from the fucking moleskin used to cum all over the tint on the warm days (Yes, I said "CUM"). I would use goo gone, and it would come back again. What eventually happened was that on a cold night, the glue hardened on the tint and upon window motion, ended up causing damage. Now I have long vertical scratch lines on all 4 of my windows, with the rears being the worst.

How would stones scratch the inside surface? Tint goes on the inside.

Give it some time. Like I said, mine took 7 months to show up how crappy it really is. FML!

I had a problem with the moleskin rubbing too rough on the tints (thankfully it was the moleskin rather than the rubber piece!). So I just stretched out the inner piece by the window & it doesn't scratch/scuff anymore. Also, the scuffs were able to be "buffed" out by the tint shop where I had it installed by spraying something on them & wiping it with a towel (I can't remember exactly what they used). Thankfully the shop stands by their install for the lifetime of the tints---plus the tints have a lifetime warranty to never fade by 3M!

has anyone tried the Anti Scratch kit from the link that was posted on the 2nd page of the thread? I'm afraid of the same thing happening that catalystgod experienced with the melting of the glue

Yes, I have the TintProtector.com (http://tintprotector.com)kit on three of my cars. The oldest one is 5 years old and it still works perfectly. No scratches.

Highly recommended. It's easy as cake to install on the Evo as well.

Get it and be done.

moleskin is just a generic name.

There are different manufactures of the stuff.

tintprotector.com makes the stuff that works to stop tint scratches on cars. If you buy other generic moleskin it won't work. It's wither too thick or the glue breaks down and it falls off.

To bad people think all moleskin is the same...

Get the tint protector stuff and it will last forever. I've had it for over 5 years now on a few of my cars with no problems.
