So what do you think about the latest version?

I think it's nice that distros are adopting this and finally moving to a fully 3d rendered desktop environment.

I feel that 95% of the stuff people want Compiz/Beryl for absolutely deplorable. It's a computer, you don't need to rice it out just because you can and it's free to.

In Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon (October release) the default set of Compiz Fusion effects are tasteful, much moreso than the default Vista crap.

My favorite is the 'expo' effect for switching virtual desktops (though it's still kinda weird to use it with a dual monitor system, I still find myself wanting virtual desktops (mainly for separating different task groups (i.e. work vs school vs personal))) .. I'm sure there are youtube vids showing it off.
