: Virtual Dyno - Standalone Software
bbarnhill 06-27-2010, 03:37 AM 1.0.7 (October 26, 2010)
- Fixed a bug that would cause some resizing issues and save the wrong size and locations
- Fixed a bug that would not properly read CSV files with commas in the data or data was enclosed in quotes
- Fixed flickering on smoothing level selection
- Added RomRaider AEM UEGO support
- Added 2000-2009 Honda S2000 (6 speed) support

- Moved profiles to menu dropdown selection
- Increased graphable runs to 6
- Active profile is displayed on the bottom status bar
- If more runs are listed than can be displayed the side bar is now scrollable
- Profiles moved to the menu at the top of program
- TPS trimming is done automatically and no longer requires a setting
- Seperate HP/kW and lbft/Nm settings so any combination can be used
- Double buffering enabled to cut down on flicker when drawing graphs
- Show run level messages out beside the run control
- Enhanced error messages (E101-E102) to show file names causing errors
- Mustang Dyno correction factor changed to 0.95 to better match average MD
- Software version number printed on graph
- Using InstallShield now to install
- Code cleanup and unused code removed
- Performance analysis done to find bottlenecks
The interface is pretty self explanitory. You can drag your CSV files to the panel on the left, then enter the appropriate data in the box that appears and your graph should appear. There are several graph options and those can be accessed from the menu at the top. There are only a few cars in the data file as of the initial release but as soon as a few more people test it and get me data on other vehicles I will add more.

Feel free to let me know what you think and suggestions on improvements. I know I am opening myself up to a lot of criticism but thats the only way to make this app better.
Thanks to all of you that have helped support this application through development and to all of those who have waited patiently for it. http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:forums.evolutionm.net/get/images/smilies/smilie_thumbsup.gif

hollywood_X 06-27-2010, 04:19 AM Make this thing where it can read the Cobb logs and I'll drop some cash :)
xPRimNT 06-27-2010, 04:34 AM Very cool!
I'll definitely check it out.
Any chance for an OSX version? :)
HappyMint 06-27-2010, 04:38 AM It would seem like it wouldn't be very difficult to take Cobb Logs and turn them into dyno's, just need the columns remapped and some values converted if necessary.
Rogue 06-27-2010, 04:47 AM Sweet Thanks!
chopshop 06-27-2010, 06:06 AM Make this thing where it can read the Cobb logs and I'll drop some cash :)
:yeahthat::+1:
just downloaded. will check it out BIG thx in advance :)
hmmm not working out for me .. program launches normal but when i load up the csv's and selecting the parameters, the chart seems to be blank :( installing latest updates for my laptop and hope it works later on.

Hollywood, I can easily write a program to translate AP logs to EvoScan logs. They are almost identical.
chopshop 06-27-2010, 03:19 PM alright then there is promise for us COBB users

Make sure it's a single run in the log, from about 2k to 6k RPM. I have a 4k RPM run and it does the same thing. I have some crappy 2k-7k log and it displays fine.
EvoScan does the same thing with their power/torque graph option.. if you don't have what it expects to calculate power, it won't graph.
works now for me but have to disable auto tps.
Beeble 06-30-2010, 05:50 AM any particular labels it's looking for in the boost log?
mine doesn't want to show up... and i had boost logged in the run (it shows up in evoscan's VDR-esque thingy)
ScottSpeed21 06-30-2010, 06:03 AM Hollywood, I can easily write a program to translate AP logs to EvoScan logs. They are almost identical.
Do it...do it!
Kooldino 06-30-2010, 06:10 AM So this is essentially a better VDR, yeah?

Boost graph is not enabled in the current version. It will be in the next release which should be out soon.
So this is essentially a better VDR, yeah?
A viable alternative at the very least.

hey how are you man ? do keep us posted on the next release !
feedback from my side on virtual dyno :
it works fine but have to disable auto tps sensing ???
pulls (2.5Krpm-7.5Krpm) have to be smooth or else funky displays shows up hehehe
afr displays fine and like xMR mentioned no Boost yet
the readings are a little high imo :p
it would be great if there is an option for us to preset the settings and no need to set it everytime when a log is pulled.
an increase in smoothing would be great maybe up to 15 or improved smoothing ? from 1-5 looks like a heartbeat rate of 5000 beats/sec LoL just jk ...
would be great if it can be integrated to provide "live" runs and btw it looks very real and nice on the layout :godance:
otherwise it's a great simple straight forward software to use and it loads up real quick too. BIG thx to those who has put the hardwork & effort in for the evo community  would like to apologize if too much comments were made but would like to share my opinions & feedbacks with everyone else and looking forward to an improved version soon ;)

Doing good man! Got those catch cans hooked up yet? :)
You can just edit the HTML in notepad with the settings you want then you don't have to enter them in everytime.
bbarnhill 07-04-2010, 06:19 PM The next version is already in the works. I am taking everyones suggestions into consideration. Thanks for the feedback and I hope it is a useful tool for the whole community. If you want me to support AP logs, just send me a log and I will look at it. Shouldnt take very long at all if they are just CSV files.
Ive got a small issue to deal with first before new features are added and thats when there are blank cells in the data (for whatever reason). Ive seen this twice now and I am going to handle it. Just so you all know, I ALWAYS put bug fixes and maintenance BEFORE new features.
Keep using it and Ill keep making it better, one day at a time. Bear with me for a few releases and it will get most of these small issues worked out.
Thanks again for the support,
bbarnhill 07-04-2010, 06:20 PM Ohh and boost isnt supported just yet ... I need to rename that graph in the mean time. It will be supported soon though so just ignore boost for now.
Beeble 07-08-2010, 07:49 AM Brad - what is the calculation used to plot HP??
I am getting odd results on VDR/evoscan, and i can't figure out why from my logs.
Details are at http://www.evoxforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35059
I'm getting a DROP in HP from 5000-6000rpm - does this mean my RPM is not increasing as fast as it should be in that area?
Golden 07-08-2010, 02:16 PM Yes it would.
He should be calculating Torque by the rate in change of RPM. Then calculate HP by simply doing Tq * RPM / 5252 = Hp

Thanks again for the support,
Here is one its a 3rd gear pull and I put my car on the scales with my fat ass in it and came in at 3820#'s. Let me know what you come up with for powar!
bbarnhill 07-09-2010, 04:51 AM 423/392 (30 smoothing)
433/422 (10 smoothing)
439/447 (5 smoothing)
Thats assuming I guessed right on your tire height ... which I could have been WAY off.
but thats with a heck of a lot of smoothing trying to get that low res graph smoothed out. Its got a heck of a hump in the torque curve. Is that the same run as the 429/366 in your signature? You can see how it flattens out the torque A LOT by bumping the smoothing up. You can see that hump in the numbers there ... if you want a graph of it send me your email address.
Version 1.0.0.4 has been adjusted to read those logs now. Dang were those column names a pain. Your time column also isnt like any other logs Ive seen. Is that a normal AP log?
steelbahamut 07-09-2010, 05:30 AM Can you read tactrix logs? Ive got a csv file from a 3rd gear pull, please lemme know what it reads! Car is a 08 MR, I weigh 175lbs.

Its the E85 version of my sig run :)
So where can I get version 1.0.0.4? All I see is 3 on the site.
bbarnhill 07-09-2010, 11:21 AM v1.0.0.4 hasnt been released yet :) Ive got a little more work on it and then Ill release it. Im anxious to get it released so maybe this weekend? Just depends on when I get time to write the tire size calculator that it DESPERATELY needs.
bbarnhill 07-09-2010, 01:36 PM Bear with me as I am taking a little longer to release 1.0.0.4 but I want to add a few more things before releasing it. Hope you guys dont mind a little more fine tuning and features. I think they are worth the wait.
Clipse3GT 07-09-2010, 01:43 PM Worth the wait for sure. Also can you add dyno correction values for different dyno's from the old VDR? :) That would be excellent.
bbarnhill 07-10-2010, 02:15 AM Cant add them from VDR into my app. His correction factors would be different from mine since my math is a little different from his.
Ive got a guy thats going to compile a BUNCH of dynojet data or me so we can work on getting an even MORE accurate result than it already gives. Unless they have some weird correction factor its within 3%HP and 2%TQ. I want it dead on so the more I work on this program and the more data thats compiled ... the more dead on it will be.
Keep the faith ... got the tire size calculator about done. Im going to add a few more small features then release this version (lots of changes).
charon2123 07-10-2010, 04:48 AM For some reason the program will not display the graph on my Win 7 computer, am I missing something? It flashes something quickly once I load the run, but afterward it is a white square.
Beeble 07-10-2010, 06:42 AM ^ turn off the TPS trimming in options. seemed to work for me. No idea why :)
Clipse3GT 07-10-2010, 10:32 AM Mine works fine with Win7 Ultimate x64. Yes, turn off TPS trimming.
bbarnhill 07-10-2010, 02:16 PM Im going to make TPS trimming adjustable. Right now if your TPS is under 92 it trims it. Im getting really close to releasing 1.0.0.4 so it will be something that goes in 1.0.0.5
charon2123 07-10-2010, 02:53 PM Turning off TPS fixed it; it seems regardless of the run, my TPS is always around 86-87 with the pedal floored. It makes sense if the program expects 92 that it would cut out anything less.
Clipse3GT 07-10-2010, 02:59 PM Will the upcoming version have the boost plot working?
Beeble 07-11-2010, 12:30 AM yeah my TPS logging is 87% at WOT also. no biggie I'm sure.
+1 boost plot would be awesomeness :)
Golden 07-11-2010, 03:00 AM I thought everybody hits ~87% at WOT.
Rogue 07-11-2010, 03:03 AM I dont... I hit 96%
Golden 07-11-2010, 03:05 AM hmm, you must use a different equation.
bbarnhill 07-11-2010, 03:29 PM Been testing the tire size calculator. It seems to be working good. Would you all want to wait another day or so so I could get boost in there or would that be something you want in version 1.0.0.5
Its up to you all.
Add the boost in, I can wait.
me 2 i'll wait.
hey Xmr .. finally got the cans installed working fine. thx mate :) how's things going on over @ at yr side ?

Awesome, glad to hear it! Not too bad, how about over there?
bbarnhill 07-12-2010, 01:51 AM Tire size calc finished ... got an issue with one of the other modifications (background image) ... after it gets worked out Im going to let version 4 out of the bag. Ill put boost in v5. Ive held 4 long enough.

bbarnhill 07-12-2010, 12:38 PM You have a PM sir.
I feel asleep last night before I finished working on that bug I found. Maybe today...
dsontacchi 07-12-2010, 11:33 PM Here is another log. Let me know what it makes. Done in 3rd gear. I weigh 170lbs. Stock rims and tires. Evo x mr.

steelbahamut 07-12-2010, 11:47 PM I see you at about 307 whp, 289wtq
dsontacchi 07-13-2010, 12:02 AM I think it might be a little off. My dyno sheet says 327 hp, 351 tq.

You dyno'd on a dynojet this seems to read more like a Mustang dyno.
steelbahamut 07-13-2010, 02:02 AM My 3rd gear log read at like 349whp/335wtq, total heartbreak!

hollywood_X 07-13-2010, 02:18 AM My 3rd gear log read at like 349whp/335wtq, total heartbreak!
Yeah all the ones I am putting in are reading just a bit lower than what I actually ran on Cobb's dyno. I put my car on the scales the cat scales the other day and with my ass in the car it tilted at 3820#'s I weight right at 240#'s so my car full weight is 3580# with a full tank of gas and sons car seat minus the spare tire. Most GSR's with SSS from the factory are 3590#'s stock.
dsontacchi 07-13-2010, 02:25 AM I see you at about 307 whp, 289wtq
My heart dropped when i saw those numbers.
steelbahamut 07-13-2010, 03:07 AM Do you have any logs with a higher sampling rate?
dsontacchi 07-13-2010, 01:06 PM Do you have any logs with a higher sampling rate?
What should I log to Increase the sampling rate.
Golden 07-13-2010, 02:15 PM The question should be, what shouldn't I log to get a higher sampling rate.
bbarnhill 07-13-2010, 02:59 PM All you need to log is RPM, TPS, AFR anything else is going to slow the sampling rate. Another thing to keep in mind is when you go to a dyno ... ya might want to see what correction factor they are using. Ive seen them as high as 1.31 and all that does is over inflate your numbers. Its not reading wrong ... they are just over correcting.
That is why there is a correction factor built into this application. Because EVERY dyno is different. I dont care if they are the same model sitting side by side ... they are different.
Dynos arent for publishing numbers really ... they are for comparing changes in power. I dont care if one reads 109hp on my car and I make changes and the same one reads 159 ... then I gained 50hp. Thats what they are for. They were never intended to brag about what your car makes online because comparing cars that way ... really isnt accurate. (Sorry thats my two cent ramble for the day)
But that being said ... using the same cables (Tactrix) and the same math to compare cars ... should be pretty darn close (assuming someone isnt logging on a hill).
Golden 07-13-2010, 03:02 PM To add to ^^^^
If you have a local dyno that you use, get out your dyno sheet and adjust the correction factor in Virtual Dyno till the curves match. Now you have an exact comparison tool.
dsontacchi 07-13-2010, 03:08 PM The correction factor says STD.
bbarnhill 07-13-2010, 10:45 PM STD means they arent correcting for weather conditions like barometric pressure and temp.
I would do as Golden mentioned and adjust the correction factor in VD till my graphs matched the local dyno if I wanted to compare to it.
bbarnhill 07-13-2010, 10:46 PM The wait is over ... 1.0.4 is here.
Ive changed the versioning numbers so 1.0.4 is the version after 1.0.0.3 from now on there will be 3 numbers in the version.
Enjoy and let me know what you think. Anything from this point forward will be put into the next release (1.0.5)
Thanks for all the support and I hope you enjoy an even better app. As time progresses hopefully this app will get better and better.
Golden 07-14-2010, 01:36 AM Any chance that you can open the files with shared access? So that if I have it open with another program, it will still be able to read the file. You don't modify them at all, so Read Only should do the trick.
bbarnhill 07-14-2010, 04:13 AM Going to try something on that golden.
Clipse3GT 07-14-2010, 04:30 AM Once you zoom in you can't zoom out...
So pressing right click, does not open up a menu to select zoom out, etc...
I liked it in the previous version, where a menu is available.
hollywood_X 07-14-2010, 05:12 AM Brad it quit working for me all together with what you had before.
There is now some visual issue in Windows 7 as well as all my ATR runs don't show up until I highlight a spot then when I do its 0's for numbers.
Here are some old and new logs with all the column names you need.
bbarnhill 07-14-2010, 01:42 PM I dont think its a windows 7 issue since this machine Im on is running Win7 and my laptop I develop on runs Win7 as well.
What do you mean it "quit working altogether"? Keep in touch and lets get this hammered out.
Golden 07-14-2010, 03:35 PM Is there a way to set the value used for "Auto trim TPS"? As 87 is the max that I've always seen with my car using either ATR or EvoScan. Now I could change EvoScan to report 100% as max throttle, but the ATR users won't be able to.

He had it done for me in the BETA but for some reason it didn't cross over. He's working on it though.
kdiggz 07-14-2010, 04:19 PM :coffee:
very cool
Clipse3GT 07-14-2010, 05:40 PM Zoom out no worky :(
bbarnhill 07-15-2010, 04:24 AM Yeah working on the TPS thing and also an error when renaming a run. Its being a pain though ... its the things you think are going to be simple that are a royal pain.
zoom out? I didnt put zoom in there ... umm unless the graph library by default allows it.
bbarnhill 07-15-2010, 05:54 AM Ok ... Ive got the zoom thing fixed and I added the adjustable TPS value under the settings window. These will be in 1.0.5
I feel bad that I work on this and get enough changes to put out a new version every couple of days. I wish I had the server to put this on that I could add an auto update feature but since this is hosted on my actual machine at my house ... dont think Ill do that right now.
1.0.5 changes thus far:
- Settings are now not saved on graph settings window close via the X
- Fixed a bug when renaming logs that caused a fatal error
- Added adjustable Auto Trim TPS value to the settings screen
- Added cancel zoom button to the quick action bar
- Load runs even if file is already open in another program (non-exclusive file access)
- Increased the sensitivity of smoothing
Im working on adding boost to the bottom graph but the scaling is being a little bit of a *****.
If you can think of anymore PLEASE let me know. Im running out of things to add for 5. If nothing else comes in Im going to start working on saving profiles of cars so you can default all to a set of saved profiles. Probably going to do a small release of 5 first and make that the big project for 6. What do you guys think?
Golden 07-15-2010, 03:21 PM 2 bugs found this morning.
(Note: I'm using 1.0.0.3, so it could have been fixed... and I just realized that I need to get a new one)
1: Empty cell in TPS column cause a crash.
(.net doesn't like you to assume that the value being converted to a number is an actual number)
2: Save as an image crashed it when I tried to save over one I just saved. aka replace existing.
(You need to close the handle to the file after it is saved)

I think they have both been fixed in 1.0.4
The TPS one for sure. The save one Ive never had a problem with but Ive also verified with another line of code, that that object is disposed of after it is written to disk.
Thanks for the bug reports. In the next few days when 1.0.5 comes out make sure to upgrade to the newest version so that you get all the fixes. 1.0.0.3 SUCKED!!! There were so many bugs in that one and the newer versions just look better too.
Evo&Son 07-18-2010, 05:23 PM what am I doing wrong?
downloaded 1.0.4, installed then I loaded a Cobb AP cvs file but nothing plots?
bbarnhill 07-18-2010, 09:58 PM what am I doing wrong?
downloaded 1.0.4, installed then I loaded a Cobb AP cvs file but nothing plots?
Well I wouldnt say you are doing anything wrong ... I had the TPS trimming set at 92% ... well ... the highest value Ive seen in a Cobb log so far is 87%. 1.0.5 addresses this issue by allowing you to set the trim value in the settings. In the mean time its ghetto but you CAN turn TPS trimming off and it should graph, or you can change your values at WOT to 95 for TPS. I know thats the wrong way to do it but Id hate to release 1.0.5 without the betas testing it first.
1.0.5 is in beta right now and there are some bugs to work out but it will be out soon.
Sorry about this but Ill get it fixed.
Evo&Son 07-19-2010, 12:34 AM this is what I have come up with
Red is AP stage 2 93 08 GSR v106 w/ TBE installed and Hot Pipe
Blue is AP Stage 1 93 08 GSR v106
Kooldino 07-19-2010, 12:51 AM Very nice!
bbarnhill 07-19-2010, 06:49 AM Just showing off 1.0.5 a little ... BOOST is here!!! Hopefully the betas return good results.
Ive also made the graphing a little quicker and reduced the code footprint by 50 lines of code. In larger files it should be MUCH faster to graph. I am not only adding new features but trying to improve the old ones at the same time. Sorry if I introduce some bugs along the way but thats the price I pay for trying to continually improve this thing. Ill be working on it some on vacation starting Tuesday. I hope to get 1.0.5 out by then, so I can start on 1.0.6 with new features then.
Enjoy this teaser...

hollywood_X 07-19-2010, 02:47 PM Next throw in wideband and load. :)
Its wideband capable already :nerd:
bbarnhill 07-19-2010, 05:39 PM Next I believe is going to be just bug clean up. I need to focus on that for a little while and get this thing stable. I also want to focus on adding more vehicles and cleaning things up. Then Ill get back to feature mode again. Just a necessary step that most people dont like (including me).
When I say bug fixes ... I mean fixing/handling some anomalies in some of these logs. These logs are so inconsistent.

speedfreak228 07-19-2010, 08:24 PM Make an App for the iPhone
:yeahthat:
bbarnhill 07-20-2010, 07:01 AM An app to do what? Graph HP and TQ? I would but Id have to know how to communicate with the OP2 cable. If that is possible Id write a HP grapher that was live for it ... ewww .. wait Id have to get the developement kit for the iphone ... ugh.
bbarnhill 07-20-2010, 07:01 AM So far here are the changes in 1.0.5:
- Settings are now not saved on graph settings window close via the X
- Fixed a bug when renaming logs that caused a fatal error
- Fixed a bug that caused the FindRPMRange to return no range due to blank RPM columns
- Fixed a bug that would cause the TPS to be found and not trim blank columns
- Added adjustable Auto Trim TPS value to the settings screen
- Added cancel zoom button to the quick action bar
- Load runs even if file is already open in another program (non-exclusive file access)
- Increased the sensitivity of smoothing
- Boost graphing on Y2 axis of bottom graph
- FindColumnName function added to remove redundant code
- Finding of column names moved outside each row so its only performed once per table hence improving graphing time
- Added Evo 5 GSR (5 Speed)
- Graphing can be done in metric or imperial units now (HP/ft-lbs or kW/N m)
- Splash screen background set to transparent
Figured Id keep you aware of the changes made so far. Betas have their copies and as soon as I hear from them ... you know what time it is ... RELEASE TIME!!!
HappyMint 07-20-2010, 12:36 PM Hmm. Well here is mine. It seems like it may be a bit higher than it should be >.> I dynod 303 on a Dyno Dynamics that indeed does read low. Most Stage 2 people are getting around 270's with tbe on that dyno. But nevertheless, 400? >.> I was expecting around 350.
Running at 27 psi - 22 psi to redline with Mods below.
Could this be because I turned off Auto trim TPS because of my sig. Does it not assume it's WOT with ap logs?
I also think the adjustment due to weight calculation must be quite off because I put in a log from last night with a few friends. I summed up our weight to like 420 pounds. And my HP went up by 50 (448 hp) in the graph. I didn't post it because it's just wayyyy too high. One last thing. I ran the log I just did (current mods again). With the same parameters but no weight (0 lbs in field) it is 383 which is still too high I think >.>
Golden 07-20-2010, 02:23 PM Turn the smoothing up, that will make the line and values look more realistic.
Golden 07-20-2010, 02:25 PM Brad, I have an idea for you.
I've been noticing that I need to up the smoothing if I have a lot of samples per second. I can easily do 35+ per second. If I have a log with a much lower number, say closer to 10 samples per second, I need much less smoothing.
So, here is the idea. Determine the number of samples per second and choose a smoothing rate based on that. I'm not sure how well that would work, but it seems like a dynamic smoothing may be a nice feature.
bbarnhill 07-20-2010, 02:39 PM Golden: thats a great idea!!! I wonder if it will work. Ill play around with that. Ive also upped the smoothing 2x per level so it smooths more per level in 1.0.5, just got to get that thing out of beta. I sent the wrong link to my beta last night (it was 2am) so Ill get him to beta some today and give the thumbs up or down and we can go from there.
Happy Mint: turn your smoothing up. Its WAYYYY too choppy to be accurate. Smooth that joker out. Did you let off of it and then go WOT again in that run? Send me your data and tell me your parameters and Ill graph it for ya if you want.
Golden 07-20-2010, 04:11 PM Maybe you've done this already, but put the saved settings somewhere other than the CWD (current working directory). It puts them in my Logs folder. Saved settings should go in the program's folder.
Clipse3GT 07-20-2010, 04:21 PM Saved settings would be excellent!
Or save default settings for car, weight, etc... but leave the gear choice to not default.
bbarnhill 07-20-2010, 08:50 PM Holy crap golden ... YIKES!!! That is a bad thing. Ill be fixing this NEXT!!!
Clipse3GT ... saved profiles for cars and the being able to drag a profile up to the run will be possible too. Its hard to explain what I have in mind but Ill try to get that done this week. But first Ive got to get the saved settings problem Golden mentioned fixed first.
bbarnhill 07-20-2010, 09:01 PM I fixed it but I cant publish the new beta out there for ya Golden because Im not at my house near my server. I dont have FTP set up on it (for whatever reason).
send me a PM with your email address if you want a beta with that fixed.
TheSin 07-20-2010, 09:05 PM is the latest beta 1_0_5beta?
bbarnhill 07-20-2010, 11:28 PM Yes but there have been a couple versions of the beta. Im going to start the next beta with a version after the beta to denote which beta it is.
TheSin 07-20-2010, 11:30 PM Yes but there have been a couple versions of the beta. Im going to start the next beta with a version after the beta to denote which beta it is.
ahh I just got it off your site today, took lots of work to find it though the website is not safari friendly at all ;)
Maybe I'll just wait for the next one then to make sure I have the right one.

Invest some money, and when you are done... The money will start flowing, use the PLX Kiwi-Wifi or the PLX Kiwi-Bluetooth, I'm sure there are other OBDII Devices you can use. But just think about this..."do you know how many people would buy your app with all the development you have so far plus knock!!!" I know I'll be one of them. if only I could do what you do... Oh man!!!

Email button under my name works. :)
(I allow users to email me.)
You might want to start doing versions like 1.0.5.4 so people know what version you are on. Just release major versions like 1.0.5 and only display that in the title and such. But when you right click the exe, you will see the full version. :)
Maybe even just make the last value a rolling build count. Those are always fun to see. (1.0.5.6430) :nerd:
BTW, I am a Sr. Software Engineer (12+ years now) and work in .net and such (from embedded software to .net high level end stuff). This is why I not only find the bugs, I typically know what is wrong with the code without seeing it.
If you need help with anything, let me know. Oh, and I have an app I should email you. There is a part of it that could be stuck right into your app. :)
(Well, not just stuck in, but copy and paste would work pretty well.)
bbarnhill 07-21-2010, 06:02 PM Well hell golden why havent you emailed me?
You understand the time involved in this then :) send me the app youre talking about to look at. What does it do? Who owns the rights to it?
Golden 07-22-2010, 02:24 AM Did you email me? Do I have your email somewhere? :D
My app, I wrote, so I guess my rights.
I'll send an email to your paypal account address in the app.

Ok thats the one I use all the time. Im anxious to see what it does now. Its like waiting on opening a present.
bbarnhill 07-26-2010, 01:47 PM Saved profiles are almost done. After I get that part of the code done Ill be releasing 1.0.5
bbarnhill 07-28-2010, 07:54 AM TWO long days of coding finished. I wasted part of the day today trying to parallelize the code so it would be faster on multicore machines. I ran some tests afterwards and it just wasnt faster. So I ripped all that code out but I learned how to parallelize my code now. I am reworking the column name files so its structured a little different. This shouldnt delay me getting it to beta tomorrow sometime.
Look out betas ... its coming to ya soon. People this is another massive upgrade so be aware that working with the betas is going to take a few days to make sure things are running smoothly. Thanks for your patience.

Golden 07-28-2010, 03:52 PM Don't feel bad. I 100% understand what you were trying to do. If you ever need to bounce ideas off someone, feel free. (12+ years of this coding stuff under my belt)
I can parallelize a linux script, including message passaging. :) (no joke, I have examples)

bbarnhill 07-28-2010, 05:58 PM Hollywood ... is that a picture of you?
Golden after running some tests on my code and parallelizing it ... there were not any gains in speed. It was actually slower. I parallelized every combination of for loops in that function and to no benefit. I ran tests after each one and not any improvement in time. I even tried really big logs to see if the performance would be felt in larger data sets. NOPE. I was shocked.
I kept a separate copy of that function in its parallel glory and Im not giving up on it yet. Im just going to set it aside to get v5 out.
Golden 07-28-2010, 07:11 PM Just make sure that you aren't doing to much waiting for other threads. I've seen people parallelize code that waits so much that it should have just been a function call. If you want me to look over code sometime, you know how to reach me. :)
bbarnhill 07-29-2010, 07:11 AM 1.0.5 just went to the beta testers. Soon ... soon it will be yours.
Jackygor 08-05-2010, 06:51 PM updateS? :)
bbarnhill 08-06-2010, 10:29 AM Worked on it last night and found a bug when using AEM logs. Not a major thing it just didnt hide the bottom graph when no data was there. Other than that I am just waiting on the betas to give me their thumbs up. I introduced a new way of smoothing and I have to get one of the betas to look it over and make sure it is working as planned.
bbarnhill 08-09-2010, 01:58 PM Just an update. I packaged up V5 last night and about passed out at the keyboard. Just have to clean up the install and take screenshots for the website and post it. Its really close guys ... just bear with me ... my body said sleep and I said no ... but it won. Id expect in the next day or two it will be posted. Is anyone excited for the new changes?
blk-majik 08-09-2010, 02:05 PM Have you ever considered an option to 'average' out a few runs? I usually do 3+ runs after making changes, and they're all a bit different. Being able to average would be nice, especially when comparing 3-4 run logs before mods, with 3-4 after. We're usually measuring changes of <10% over-all, and with margin of error during run simulations, an average would be really useful :)
Edit: not sure if the latest fix caught this, but there was an unhanded exception when you try to close a run (the 'x' on the right) for a run that isn't currently displayed (checkbox not ticked). Minor issue, but just an FYI :)
bbarnhill 08-09-2010, 11:58 PM Well well well ... its time to release 1.0.5
To download it go to the first page of this thread and click the download link.
If you dont see a change you wanted in V5 let me know and Ill make sure to put it in V6.
There are a few changes I know Im going to make but I had to cut V5 development off if
I wanted to ever let you guys see it :) It was one thing after another and I finally had
to just say this is V5 or it would have never gotten released. Now the work on V6 begins,
it never ends.
Enjoy,
bbarnhill 08-10-2010, 02:49 AM Guys I found a MAJOR BUG in V5 and fixed it really fast. I republished V5 so if you want to uninstall it you can and get the new version, its out there. It was causing major spikes in logs where the RPM would drop for one cell in the run for no visible reason (TPS stayed at 100). It works now so if you have this problem get the new version.
Thanks for understanding and I couldnt let that wait till V6.

That would be near impossible to do because all data samples wouldnt be at the same points. You could if you estimated the value on a line but ... is it really worth all that work? Seriously it would be enough Id probably start charging for the app at that point :(
Its already to the point Ive spent over a hundred hours on it (thats a VERY rough guess too). Id say thats probably a VERY low estimate in fact.
xPRimNT 08-11-2010, 09:50 PM Finally had a chance to give this a try.
Fantastic piece of software, I really appreciate the work that has gone into this.
Thanks!

Thanks ... but its got a lot of work to go. Ive got a lot of little things to fix and lots of things to add. Its always going to be a work in progress in my eyes I guess. Glad you enjoy it. As I tell everyone else ... just fasten your seatbelts, there are some sick ideas in my head ... now to just find the time between school and sleep to implement them. :confused2:
Just bear with my crappy schedule, I promise I work on it as much as I possibly can. Im getting so many bug reports (small ones). That Im getting data mixed up :) Good to have such a good flow of information. Yall keep using it and Ill keep modifying it.

Of course there is always work to do. But, even as is, it is a slick tool to help us out, so it is much appreciated.
Thanks!
Clipse3GT 08-12-2010, 03:45 AM One thing I noticed is that it loads slower than 1.04. Also crashes if you click the pencil icon if no profile is created.
Golden 08-12-2010, 03:51 AM Then don't click on the pencil icon without a profile. Geez how many "if" statements does a programmer have to write?

That is the bug that I RE-released 1.0.5 so if you havent gotten the newest version of it then try getting it again. It wasnt saving your custom log column names. If this doesnt fix your problem PLEASE let me know and we need to talk and get this thing resolved. That is a major issue that I will fix. 1.0.5 was a HUGE release. It is expected that it would have some bugs with as much code that I changed and reworked. Please be patient as we get this thing to where it needs to be. Please make sure you keep the channel of communication open about your standalone datalogger and getting this working.

You are very welcome. I am trying my best to help the community out. This IS and WILL ALWAYS be the best tool out there for graphing datalogs. I know I have competition but I feel like (and have been told by many) that Im crushing them. I will continue to make this my goal to be better, by leaps and bounds, than my competition.

I verified that these will graph with the latest copy of the program. You have to put your custom time column name in the list since this is using column names other than the ones that it expects.
RPM is fine but the time column is usually named LogEntrySeconds in Evoscan and Timestamp in AEM and AP logs.
Just out of curiousity what logging program did you use. Maybe Ill default the program to read that logging programs logs. Let me know if you need any further help.

I did put in the custom names, the exact same way I did with the last version of this software but still it did not work. The old one worked for me no problem however.
Time column on my logs is simply "time" I filled in all the custom columns, no luck, filled in only the ones that varied, no luck, tried it blank, no luck.
Those logs were created using the standalone logger with tactrix 2.0 cable.
bbarnhill 08-16-2010, 06:25 PM Have you used the new beta that I sent you? That version should have worked with the custom header names. Let me know if this worked for you. It worked on mine saving the custom header names.
By the way ... if anyone else is using custom column names this was broken in the last release. I will try to release 1.0.6 soon that should fix this problem. Sorry for the inconvenience.
brianong18 08-17-2010, 03:07 PM Sorry for the inconvenience.
Dude, why are you sorry? You are doing this as a favor to the community. You didn't have to. Thank you for doing it.

I just ask because this is where I get bug reports and such.
Let me know. Thanks.
brianong18 08-25-2010, 01:29 AM Thought the car would make more. But then again this is a tool for comparing different logs. I need to go put my pre-tune map back on the car and do a run to see my gains. VD has been working fine for me. Only thing that would be nice is if I could save my car's profile so i don't need to keep inputting the same info over and over again.

Used the app again today. Thanks Brad.
bbarnhill 08-25-2010, 03:08 AM Thanks for the words of encouragement guys, I was starting to wonder if anyone used the app. Should I keep developing it? I wish there was a way for me to tell how many people use it :)
The attitude over here is much better than the other forum. I keep getting ripped on by JoT and the VDR crew. I must be doing something right.
1.0.6 is about to come out. Just a little more testing. Im anticipating it being a big release like 1.0.5 but I want to make sure there arent any bugs last minute like with 1.0.5 Hope you guys understand. Im shooting for quality with this project, not just getting it out quickly, though I know you guys salivate at the thought of the new version. So its a battle between keeping you guys satisfied with new features and quality.
If you all see something that it needs please let me know.
Thanks for the support.

I've got an idea to help you cure that curiosity, I was thinking about doing it earlier today as a matter of fact :)
EDIT: here's my idea, hope it is somewhat fun :D -> http://www.evoxforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37494
Oh and I use your program lots! I will send a donation soon.
bbarnhill 08-25-2010, 11:16 AM NICE!!! Was wondering when someone would do that. :) Do they need a link to this thread so they know where to get it? Does anyone even know about this program?

Good point, edited the first post.
IrvineXGSR 08-26-2010, 11:08 PM just downloaded it. can't wait to try it out! thanks!
blk-majik 08-27-2010, 01:54 AM I did put in the custom names, the exact same way I did with the last version of this software but still it did not work. The old one worked for me no problem however.
Time column on my logs is simply "time" I filled in all the custom columns, no luck, filled in only the ones that varied, no luck, tried it blank, no luck.
Those logs were created using the standalone logger with tactrix 2.0 cable.
I've been having this problem for a while. The crutch fix i've been using is to open the CSV file and replace the 'time' heading with 'LogEntrySeconds'. The config option to rename the time column seems to be ignored and it only ever finds LogEntrySeconds
Not a bid deal, but just a heads up for the next version, if you didn't find that bug already. Great work!
bbarnhill 08-27-2010, 02:51 AM Already fixed it in 1.0.6. The custom names arent ignored they just arent saved properly in 1.0.5
Im trying to get 1.0.6 out as soon as possible, hope you understand there are some big changes in 1.0.6 and Im trying to get it tested asap. Hopefully saturday Ill get this released. Im in clinicals all day tomorrow so Ill be computerless and helpless :)
bbarnhill 08-29-2010, 02:55 PM You know what time it is ... time for v1.0.6 ... ENJOY!!!
brianong18 08-29-2010, 03:01 PM Yay!
How are clinicals and classes going? I am an RN. I know how that was like. Only have my ASN though. Your program is probably a lot tougher.
bbarnhill 08-29-2010, 03:07 PM I dont care what type of nursing program you went through ... that crap is ROUGH!!!
People just have no idea what we have to go through to get to be one. I salute you brian ... hopefully Ill be an RN soon.
Clinicals are going good I guess, noone has died on me yet. We are in Acute Care so its a little more critically ill patients than Im used to, but this is the direction I want to go when I get out. Between clinical paperwork and quizzes and tests ... and Virtual Dyno ... its going to make me bald. :) Only 9 months left till I graduate ... cant freaking wait.
brianong18 08-29-2010, 03:13 PM Then you have NCLEX to look forward too... Not. That was the hardest test I've ever taken. I was told it's even harder now since I took it 2 years ago.
I can't believe you have sooo much spare time to work on VD. Haha.
bbarnhill 08-29-2010, 04:39 PM My wife tells me that NCLEX isnt anything to worry about. She has her CCRN and is working on her doctorate in nurse anesthesia though.
bbarnhill 08-29-2010, 04:44 PM And the work on 1.0.7 has begun ... one bug down ... its amazing how quick people find new bugs. :) Its ok its not a major one. I think its a never ending job and battle.
mike o 08-31-2010, 12:40 AM brad,
this is an awesome program. i apreciate the work you did on this.
thank you,
mike o
bbarnhill 08-31-2010, 02:14 PM Thanks Mike.
bbarnhill 09-07-2010, 09:40 PM This thread die?
According to google analytics ... NASIOC has just sent more users to my site than evoxforums ... come on X guys, thats sad.
xPRimNT 09-07-2010, 09:46 PM Not dead, we just love it so much we don't have time to visit ;)
Nasioc is huge, we can't really compete with that :)
Clipse3GT 09-08-2010, 06:06 PM My wife tells me that NCLEX isnt anything to worry about. She has her CCRN and is working on her doctorate in nurse anesthesia though.
She already has her CRNA? IIRC the CRNA program is a Masters program. At least around here. I know because I am a RN and I am applying to the CRNA program. The NCLEX is not even the issue these days, I can't even get a internal transfer to a ICU from ER here in OH at the great Cleveland Clinic. It's a PITA to find a job even in the medical field.
/rant
:hijacked:
bbarnhill 09-09-2010, 12:00 AM NASIOC is huge but I was just playing around.
She is in the CRNA program right now ... its a doctorate here at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Im going to be getting out in May and Ill be a Masters prepared entry level RN. All the degrees got bumped up one degree level.
Im sick as a dog right now trying to get the energy to study for the test friday. Pray that I dont die. :) But call the chaplin because I feel as though Im going to meet Jesus in the sky. hahahaha.
weebles 09-30-2010, 05:59 PM I think it would be super sweet if this program could record 1/4 mile times/traps... Just an idea :D
bbarnhill 09-30-2010, 06:06 PM I think it would be super sweet if this program could record 1/4 mile times/traps... Just an idea :D
Its on the list of things to do. I just have to cut off what I think the next version should have or Id never get the next one released. I plan on adding a 1/4 mile and 1/8 mile calculator that would tell you your estimated speeds based on power calculations. Is that close to what you are wanting? I have a way to calculate this and its pretty darn close. Just have to implement it.
bbarnhill 10-16-2010, 02:03 PM well 1.0.7 is at the final beta tester. Hopefully it will get tested and back to me in a couple of days with the thumbs up.
Clipse3GT 10-23-2010, 01:46 PM well 1.0.7 is at the final beta tester. Hopefully it will get tested and back to me in a couple of days with the thumbs up.

Love this program.
bbarnhill 10-23-2010, 03:28 PM clipse3gt: It loves you too, it told me.
ice1874193 10-31-2010, 06:52 PM Hey bbarnhill - just downloaded the virtual dyno to check it out. I'm using the cobb ap datalogs and I'm getting an E111 error when I attemp to load a log. Do I have to set something up if I'm using a cobb datalog?
Thanks - Mike
ice1874193 10-31-2010, 07:11 PM Changed the column name mapping and looks like it works find now!
bbarnhill 11-01-2010, 05:02 AM So there is a column name missing? Send me your AP log so I can see the missing columns and add them as defaults. bradbarnhill at hotmail com
bbarnhill 11-02-2010, 01:17 AM Server down for maintenance (disaster) back up asap. Installing windows now.
mike o 11-02-2010, 01:36 AM I feel your pain. I may have turned my pc into an end table last week.
SuperDuperX 11-03-2010, 08:32 PM I <3 Virtual dyno!! This is great stuff, thank you!
bbarnhill 11-03-2010, 08:45 PM No problem Super. I hope the community likes it :)
bondoa6 11-03-2010, 08:58 PM Wow that looks cool...I didn't read the whole thread, but did you ever get it to read Cobb logs? If so, I'll send cash...
bbarnhill 11-03-2010, 09:03 PM its been reading cobb logs for a long time now. Where have you been? hahaha SEND AWAY!!! I support a number of loggers now. Some columns I havent seen before so if anyone runs into one ... PLEASE send me the log and let me know so I can further expand the list of columns. HHH (Hand Held Halo) is the only company that has sent me a complete list of column names.
bondoa6 11-03-2010, 09:07 PM Stupid me...just looked at the link. Thanks.
Two :duh::duh: post in a row. Its been one of those days.
bbarnhill 11-03-2010, 09:13 PM hahaha ... no problem bondoa6 ... I have those often.
bondoa6 11-03-2010, 11:23 PM Brad, when i click to download, it does not download. Any thoughts?
bbarnhill 11-04-2010, 01:48 AM I just tried it ... and you are right!!! holy crap. Ill get that fixed right now.
bbarnhill 11-04-2010, 02:03 AM Should be fixed now. I dont know what happened, but I did simplify the code behind that button when you click it. I just did away with it all and went old school on it. I dont know why I made it as complex as it was.
Looney Tuning 11-07-2010, 02:44 AM This is a great program. Thanks for creating it. But I have a couple of questions/suggestions.
1. How are you calculating frontal area? AFAIK, it is width X height x 90% (car and driver's formula). For example you list the FA for the Evo 10 at 22.9 square foot. But if you multiple the width (5.942 ft) and height (4.8583) of the car and then multiply the result by 90% you get 25.98 square foot.
2. Is there any way to activate the temp/baro functions w/o having to activate the SAE correction? Can you please do that in a future release if it is not in there?
Thanks
Edit: I looked at the FA of the Evo 9 GSR and you have it listed at 24.9 sqft. This is very close to the 25.15 that I have extracted using the car and driver formula. The Evo X seems to be off.
bbarnhill 11-07-2010, 02:25 PM I dont calculate the frontal area I look it up like the gear ratios.
Why would you want to activate the temp baro functions without SAE correction?
bondoa6 11-07-2010, 02:37 PM for some reason I can't get it past my Norton AV program....
Looney Tuning 11-07-2010, 03:15 PM I dont calculate the frontal area I look it up like the gear ratios.
Why would you want to activate the temp baro functions without SAE correction?
Where did you find the numbers for the Evo X? Can you share the link? I searched for frontal area of cars and did not come up with much.
Temp/baro will have an impact on power even if you do not activate SAE correction. I do not want to compare to 77*/29.xxx SAE base. I just want to compare two runs to each other and see what impact the weather had on the power output.
bbarnhill 11-07-2010, 03:23 PM you can change the temp and baro with SAE enabled.
Looney Tuning 11-07-2010, 04:38 PM I found this link on calculating FA
http://www.a2wt.com/APPENDIX.htm
It states that FA=Width X Height X 85%. That puts the FA of the Evo X at 24.53 sq ft. It is close to the Car and Driver formula that I used.
Looney Tuning 11-22-2010, 06:20 AM Hi Brad,
I am having this problem with your program on Windows 7. Everytime I try to close the program or change the graphing options I get an error code. It never happened when I was running Windows XP on my old lap top. It does not happen on my tuning laptop that also runs XP. Attached is the gif of what it says. Is there a fix?
Thanks
bbarnhill 11-22-2010, 10:55 AM The problem is you need to grant write access to the install directory. It cant save that xml because of a permission issue.
Looney Tuning 11-22-2010, 02:51 PM The problem is you need to grant write access to the install directory. It cant save that xml because of a permission issue.
How do I do that?
Thanks
Looney Tuning 11-23-2010, 02:41 AM Ok, I fixed the problem. I installed the program outside of program files folder. I simply put it on the C drive. That took care of it. I would love to know if others with windows 7 are having this problem.
bbarnhill 11-23-2010, 11:04 AM I would like to know what causes this problem ... it should give you proper permissions because it should give your account you install it under rights to write to that directory. I have redone the installer in 1.0.8 and use Nullsofts installer (NSIS) as the installs are smaller and its easier to build the executable everytime. Maybe it will fix this issue since I wont be using install shield anymore.
gen1runner 11-23-2010, 11:08 AM Ok, I fixed the problem. I installed the program outside of program files folder. I simply put it on the C drive. That took care of it. I would love to know if others with windows 7 are having this problem.
Im having this problem with win 7. Gonna try your fix tomorrow.
Stock? 11-23-2010, 11:11 AM So if you keep the default installation location (C:/Program Files) you don't have permissions to certain folders? But if you install to the Root of C it gives you all the proper permissions? Only on Windows 7? Or Vista as well? XP?
Golden 11-23-2010, 02:25 PM XP does not have folder permissions. So it doesn't have this issue on XP. :nerd:
Stock? 11-23-2010, 02:37 PM ... XP uses NTFS which enables file, folder, Registry key, and printer permissions. (On client OS) :)
2000 and above uses NTFS the old File System was Fat32.
bbarnhill 11-23-2010, 03:07 PM XP does allow for folder and file permissions. I need to find out if this problem is only on XP or if it happens on Vista and 7 too. I think it happened on 7 once too. I just dont know how to compare situations when this happens and find the underlying cause. It seems like I cant get enough feedback to get to the root of the issue. I could patch and patch all day long but if we fix the underlying issue which is more than likely a user account issue on the clients machine, but Im staying open minded about it.
Please know that I have redone the installer in NSIS (nullsofts installer system) in the next edition. I have gotten away from install shield for now because it does have some problems from time to time in visual studio. Also the installer is 1/3 the size after NSIS compression.
I have been focused on moving the project to a new webserver in the last week and that move has been made. It should have better bandwidth and if my power at the house goes out the server is still up and running. I hope this helps availability to you all. Its still available at www.bradbarnhill.com (http://www.bradbarnhill.com)
If anyone notices a pattern to this problem please let me know.
Golden 11-23-2010, 03:07 PM Yes, but a base install of XP has wide open privileges. It's a windows 7 thing to lock every thing down. (for the better good)
Stock? 11-23-2010, 03:12 PM I will load a copy on Xp, Vista and 7 and see what I get. Do you want 32 vs 64bit? New version vs old version? Might take some time but I will try if you want.
Looney Tuning 11-23-2010, 04:41 PM It is a windows 7 issue. My tuning laptop runs XP and I had no problem installing and running VD in program files. My new Dell XPS has windows 7. When I installed VD in program files (x86), I had this problem. The problem was solved when I installed VD on the C drive only. It seems that the windows 7 prgram files folder has some sort of protection on it.
Stock? 11-23-2010, 05:00 PM It may be setting the permissions to "Program Files" not Program Files x86. If you manually grant the necessary permissions will it work?
^I will try this when I get home.
bbarnhill 11-23-2010, 10:58 PM I have installed it on several windows 7 machines without an issue. Vista has the same 'lockdown' issues that windows 7 has, so I think there is more to this. There has to be some user account issue going on I think.
Stock? 11-24-2010, 12:01 AM Well... try it with and without UAC enabled and see if you have a difference.
bbarnhill 11-24-2010, 12:37 AM good point ... trying that now
bbarnhill 11-24-2010, 12:48 AM Ok after a bit of testing:
UAC off initially: installed and no errors when writing xml files
UAC turned on: installed and errors when writing xml files
UAC turned off w/ different install system (NSIS): no errors
So now Im attributing the problem to installshield and windows 7. I have already gotten a new installer built in NSIS for 1.0.8 and it looks like this may force a release of 1.0.8 very very soon. I need to get it tested as there havent been many changes other than the installer so far but a few were made.
Stock? 11-24-2010, 12:50 AM Well if I can help out with anything let me know. I can't run logs because my clutch is swiss cheese at the moment. lol
Beeble 11-24-2010, 10:02 AM Yep I'm running W7 64 and for a few releases now have had to set installation folder permissions after a fresh install of VD.
Only takes 2 seconds to do
bbarnhill 11-24-2010, 01:50 PM Yeah but Im focused on fixing the problem but I am baffled as to what is actually causing it. As soon as I test 1.0.8 Ill release it even though its minor changes. Stock: would you be willing to test the installer and see if the new edition runs ok? Let me know and Ill send you a link to the download.
Stock? 11-24-2010, 02:10 PM Yeah, not a problem. All testing on 7?
bbarnhill 11-24-2010, 06:34 PM yes I have tested it on my 7 desktop, and laptop. If you would like to make sure it works on yours let me know.
Looney Tuning 11-27-2010, 09:34 PM Hi Brad, Why did you decide to use 1.09 correction factor as the default correction for the Dynojet VD setting?
bbarnhill 11-28-2010, 06:12 AM Because with the math it should should be 1.00 but after comparing SEVERAL dynojet plots it averaged that 1.09 is what matched most of them. Its been pretty reliable on most of them.
Beeble 11-29-2010, 06:42 AM Iinterestingly, using CF=1.0 the numbers are EXACTLY what i got on my local DD dyno. like to the kilowatt :)
I literally went on the dyno, got tuned, and then did a VD run on the road outside on the way home. 270.8 on dyno, 271 on VD.
I have a mate who used the same dyno and we did a VD run in his car the next day and it was within 3kw.
So props to whoever did the math!!
(and any Aussie guys reading this, using CF=1.0 will get you darn close to "real world" results on most of our tried & tested dynos down here )
bbarnhill 11-29-2010, 01:00 PM well thanks!!! Glad you like it and the math is relatively simple but it works quite well. :)
Again thanks for the praise.
Looney Tuning 12-05-2010, 01:10 AM Because with the math it should should be 1.00 but after comparing SEVERAL dynojet plots it averaged that 1.09 is what matched most of them. Its been pretty reliable on most of them.
Isn't the dynojet correction factor a function of the weather stationfor the dyno? If that is the case, then how can we have a 1.09 correction factor? Is it possible to add a weather station to your software like DLL has? This way you would not need a correction factor? or would you?
bbarnhill 12-05-2010, 03:47 AM nope. Its a function of them just not matching actual mathmatical calculations. Weather correction is partially implemented in VD at this time. I should add air humidity as a parameter too actually but Im so frustrated with weather correction Im on the border of ripping it out. Its useless. It basically changes your HP/TQ readings to match what they could be in ideal conditions ... phffft thats stupid and useless.
Tephra 12-08-2010, 10:48 PM brad - do me a favour :) and either add multiple run detection, or just graph the longest run in the log..
a lot of the time I hit WOT for a few seconds, and it would be nice to exclude these parts...
TIA
bbarnhill 12-09-2010, 02:56 AM Tephra ... Id need to get a general consensus (and time to implement it) on what everyone wants in the program because I dont want everyone wanting different things. Would this be something that everyone could use? That detection would REQUIRE that TPS be recorded you are aware of that?
Tephra 12-09-2010, 03:00 AM sure.
I always record TPS...
How do you do run detection now?
bbarnhill 12-09-2010, 03:01 AM i trim the run on TPS to detect the WOT section as of now.
Golden 12-09-2010, 03:20 PM Maybe you should give us a scroll bar thing to let us change the range of the log that the program uses for charting the dyno.
Basically you could have an edit screen that has the TPS graphed for the whole log. We drag a left bar to the right, which moves a vertical line and cuts off entries at the beginning of the log. Same thing for the right side, we drag a bar left and it chops off entries at the end of the log. A human can quickly and easily determine which TPS "bump" they want the dyno chart to be displayed for.
Golden 12-09-2010, 03:21 PM And yes, as a software engineer, I fully understand that it is much easier said than done. :)
razorlab 12-09-2010, 04:29 PM Maybe you should give us a scroll bar thing to let us change the range of the log that the program uses for charting the dyno.

That is exactly how EcuPlus did it and it worked great.
Tephra 12-09-2010, 09:59 PM I think it would be easier to just list the WOT sections (in a dropdown) and the user selects which one he wants...
it should be fairly trivial to work it out - assuming you are logging TPS... which I thought was mandatory anyways..
bbarnhill 12-10-2010, 03:13 AM its not mandatory but I wouldnt log without it. It makes this program so much easier to use since it does autotrimming now.
Im going to have to think about how to deal with this multiple runs per file issue.
Tephra 12-10-2010, 03:15 AM yeh if you solve/do multiple runs per file then you also solve the WOTBUTNOTRUN issue as well :)
bbarnhill 12-10-2010, 06:19 PM Im just wondering if there is a Dyno out there that doesnt make you create seperate run files and just lets you make run after run then it breaks them apart. If anyone knows of one let me know.
bbarnhill 12-10-2010, 06:50 PM And yes, as a software engineer, I fully understand that it is much easier said than done. :)
As a software developer you know that I want to kill you right now, right? hahaha.
Golden 12-11-2010, 04:50 PM Yes.
/hides behind internet.
bbarnhill 12-11-2010, 05:14 PM *starts car and is en route to Golden's house with a stick*
Golden 12-11-2010, 05:17 PM Good luck with the snow storm. ;)
Too bad you don't know any software guys that could help you code. :neener:
We probably shouldn't go too off topic. Joey will come and smack us around. Though it is your thread...
bbarnhill 12-11-2010, 06:39 PM hahaha ... i dont know what to have other people write. I should go clean up the code to make it where others can help
Jackygor 12-13-2010, 01:17 AM opps wrong place!
Tephra 12-13-2010, 01:45 AM 40R?
koach 12-31-2010, 01:53 AM So I am having an issue importing files. I just installed the program for the first time and am trying to use it. I import a file, and can select the car just fine. However when I choose 3rd or 4th gear it throws this error:
E111: column " does not belong to table stage 2 93 lwg.csv
Stage 2 93 lwg.csv is the name of the file I tried to import. The log came from a Cobb AP running the latest firmware.
Am I doing something wrong?
bbarnhill 12-31-2010, 05:53 AM Probably not ... probably a new column name cobb put in there. Send me the log file causing the problems and this same description to bradbarnhill at hotmail com
Thanks,
koach 12-31-2010, 02:14 PM Probably not ... probably a new column name cobb put in there. Send me the log file causing the problems and this same description to bradbarnhill at hotmail com
Thanks,
I'm having the issue with every log I try to import. Attached is one of them.
Thanks.
koach 12-31-2010, 02:49 PM So it looks like the "Time" column has some funky characters in it, which is why it was choking. I removed the characters and now it imports. What's weird is that I don't see these characters in Excel, only in OpenOffice Calc. Any way your program can ignore those characters?
bbarnhill 12-31-2010, 08:57 PM is it the time like "0.150.56" I think that is something that needs to be addressed on the logging side. I cant handle all their problems :) What logger are you using again? Im sure the author would be MORE than willing to figure out why thats happening. They need to know about bugs in their programs as well.
Please dont take offense to this ... its just that if we dont fix the actual problem then it will always exist. I have learned to do RCA (root cause analysis) and attack the root of the problem if possible.
bbarnhill 12-31-2010, 09:14 PM Looks like a Cobb log to me. Contact them and ask them why timestamps are being stacked on top of each other.
Anyone else noticed this with a Cobb log?
koach 12-31-2010, 09:20 PM As I said it's actually the column heading "time" that is causing the issue. There are some hidden characters that appear in certain editing programs. I removed them from the "Time" heading and now it works.
