$500 a week is insane. I have a family of 5 and I spend 200 per week. I cook a lot at home though.

Look at what's on the American's table lol.

Sad thing is that if the Americans tried to fill their table like the countries under them with all those fresh vegetables and fruits they'd be spending way more money because in this country soy products are cheap, unhealthy, and plentiful while fresh fruits and vegetables are expensive.

This is why the lower class is generally unhealthier and fatter than the middle and upper classes--they eat cheap food, but that food is horrible for their health.

So true! The american table has the least fresh fruits and veggies and to match others, the cost would definitely sky rocket.

It's interesting to look at the food costs for each place. It is what makes a study like this so hard. Even the last pic, the family in Chad, would probably cost 20x as much as it does there. For rice being a staple food in many developing nations it is expensive as hell in the U.S.
