Nice! I thought of that idea when I was 15 years old. Then for a second, I thought it was stupid and pointless. Good thing it actually serves a purpose.

that is a great concept. Most cost a pretty penny

I am interested in the cost. According to the some of the post, they are able to squeeze 24k miles out of those 140 rated tires on an evo. Depending on the cost, it could equal, or even better, the conventional square tires in terms of mileage, but with all the added benefits.

Will they be making these in 265/35/18?

Cool video - How do you like the way they drive and handle?

For the record though, I'm with Coco. :)

Would be cool if Tirerack started to carry them and I could test them on a One Lap event. :)

I would be curious as to wet weather characteristics of the tire. It looks like it has huge contact patches and would hydro easily. It also doesn't look like there are any sipes on the tire.

The next question is would Mitsu try to void your warranty for running these because you would have to go out of spec in order to run the tire.

As intrigued as I am, I won't be getting these until they have been put though some paces. The car seat in my back seat say so.

Sorry to bump this thread up from half a year ago but I came across some new information that I thought was pretty relevant to this topic.

http://farnorthracing.com/street_tire_faq/

excerpt:

From Paul Haney's book on tires, The Racing and Performance Tire

I asked Bruce [Foss, Hoosier product manager] about camber. "Are you building some camber into the ['94 NASCAR] tires?"

"Yes, we are," Bruce answered. "BF Goodrich emphasized that a while back in autocross tires to give more grip with cars that were prevented by rules from adding camber. That's the situation in NASCAR, where the rules and the solid rear axle housing keep the car form having the optimum abount of camber. We're using asymmetrical sidewalls - stiffer inside sidewalls - to generate camber thrust and keep the contact patch in place during cornering"

- Paul Haney "The Racing and High Performance Tire" 2003 P140

Not only is this a case of autocross tire technology being utilized in a higher level motorsport, it's also worth mentioning that the asymmetrical-sidewall, "pre-cambered" tire technology being discussed here was a feature of the BF Goodrich R1 tire, a competitor's tire, and not natively developed by Hoosier. So not only do we have evidence of technology trickling up out of autocross to higher series, but also evidence of technology jumping corporate lines.

So what I take away from this is that while these jay leno garage tires may have STATIC negative camber built into them, it's very likely that a lot of asymmetrical summer only performance tires have construction taking this philosophy into account.

Remember that up to 30% of a tires lateral acceleration can come from camber thrust (how motorcycles corner) so manufacturers are highly unlikely just leave that on the table... especially considering how camber challenged most production cars are these days. A stock class win at nationals is a huge win for a tire manufacturer.

Out of spec? How so? These are factory size, 245/40/18..

I do question the benefits in a non-performance app. Whereas we see inner wear under hard driving or just running too much camber, it seems to me that there's going to be outer wear issues under normal driving conditions on "minivans, Camrys", etc...

If you were to put a tire on which already has camber built into it, then you would have to decrease the amount of camber in the suspension for the tire to sit flat on the ground. Otherwise you would be running on only one side of the tire under normal driving. I wasn't really questioning the performance aspect of the tires; just the passenger car versions.
