: Evo X vs '08 STi
Kooldino 05-08-2007, 11:30 PM Say what you want about compact Japanese sports sedans, but the fact is they represent the best bang for the buck in the marketplace today. And they've quickly developed a loyal following from a new generation of car enthusiasts who appreciate their style, performance and affordability. Two cars that have defined this segment, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and Subaru Impreza WRX STI, are poised to take their game to the next level, extending their rivalry. While details about the all-new versions of these machines remain sketchy, we've uncovered a bagful of information that'll give you a good idea of what to expect when they hit their respective dealerships in early 2008.http://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/image/2007/Q2/4192007192038.jpg

Kooldino 05-08-2007, 11:37 PM We predict a base version to come in around $32,000 with the top-of-the-line model hitting about $36,000.
LancerGTS 05-09-2007, 04:28 PM im def feelin the evo x over the sti even tho I like them also
Kooldino 05-09-2007, 06:24 PM the STi is a great car, but it's obvious that the X is the superior machine here.
The only thing I like better about the STi is the fact that the motor is larger, and it will probably sound better.
Kasedog18 05-10-2007, 02:24 AM The new STi is pretty gross. I am really sad suby just keeps making the WRX worse and worse.
Yeah my firs tpost. Fing gay noob title is lame...lol More emoticons koolguy ;)
Kooldino 05-10-2007, 05:02 AM Start an emoticons thread in the feedback section and post some emoticons in there...i'll add them over time.
Koenig 05-22-2007, 09:39 PM +1 on the STI looking ugly....... Subaru is only becoming more and more disappointing
I use to be a huge STI fan, because I didn't like the way the older EVOs looked (except the VI which you can't get in the States unless shipped overseas....)
but now the Evo X looks a lot better and I would pick one over the new STI...... the only STI that I like now is the Legacy GT STI (also not available in the states :P)

Yeah. I just don't understand it. I love Subarus, but man, they're hideous. Every time I hear of them working on some new styling, I get all excited and think "finally, maybe they'll look good!". I'm always let down.
You could always do what Weenzor did and do a WRX swap into a ~99 chassis. Looks a hell of a lot better. He posted a pic up in the OT section recently.

True, but the Legacy doesn't perform as well as the Impreza. :-/
Koenig 05-22-2007, 09:46 PM It doesn't have to perform as well, it just looks a lot sexier, haha
But yeah..... Subaru has disappointed me, whoever though the front end of the B9 Tribeca would look good on the WRX STI should have been shot....
I'll be going for an evo X in about 2010...by then I'll have my mazdaspped6 paid off, and keep that as well, it's always fun to have 2 performance cars ;)
Kooldino 05-22-2007, 09:49 PM Badass. That's a nice couple of cars to have. The Mazda for the long drives, the X for the fun.
Hmm, wonder when the XI will come out..

2017?
LOL
Yeah but I also plan to mod the mazda for the fun too ;)
my mazda and my evo X both being 11 sec daily drivers....... schweet!!!
Kooldino 05-23-2007, 02:17 PM Well, the evo VIII was out for what...2-3 years until the IX came out? So by 2010, you MAY be on the evo XI, but I doubt it.
jred321 05-23-2007, 09:01 PM each generation has lasted ~2 years (9 models since 1992 so not exact)
something i've wondered: when are we getting the X? japan and other countries have gotten models way before we get them in the US, will that hold true for the X or will we be on schedule with them?
Kooldino 05-23-2007, 09:35 PM From what I've read (I think it was mentioned in one of the news articles I linked here) the X was going to be released this fall in Japan, and early '08 here. Honestly, that's fine with me...let them find the flaws first. We'll have to get some Japanese X members to keep us informed!
Liquid_Ag 06-07-2007, 04:11 AM i want an evo x. there is no other option anymore, the sti is so awful that its not even in the question
LancerGTS 06-07-2007, 01:22 PM i was very dissapointed with the way the suby's new sti looks go evo x!:pokeowned:
Liquid_Ag 06-07-2007, 01:50 PM the whole wrx and sti are just hideous. then again most new small cars are. the mitsu is the only one with a proportional trunk, isnt taller than it is wide and doesnt weigh a thousand pounds mroe than its predecessor. mitsu reallllllllllllly did this right, and thats saying alot after the new galant and the new eclipse.
Kooldino 06-07-2007, 02:13 PM Well, the X will weigh more than the IX, but we don't know by how much just yet.
Liquid_Ag 06-07-2007, 02:15 PM ive read that the new evo will be 50 lbs lighter i thought
LancerGTS 06-07-2007, 02:45 PM :freak:
Kooldino 06-07-2007, 02:46 PM No, they had to add some weight due to the fact that they reinforced the chassis and such. The stock Lancer is even 3000lbs.
Liquid_Ag 06-07-2007, 02:54 PM hmm weird
jred321 06-08-2007, 01:09 PM didn't they have to put in extra safety garbage that the IX doesn't get?
LancerGTS 06-08-2007, 01:38 PM probably
Itsallmuscle 08-01-2007, 04:44 PM I agree with most of the consensus, and it sucks for us. The sti looks god awful, and we will all suffer, not just subaru lovers. The fact the sti is so ugly will make the demand for the evo to go up, and so will the prices. Think its crazy when dealers ask sticker? The evo has almost NO COMPETITION now. Dealers will be asking 1k over sticker and they will be getting it. Forget your research of invoice, it won't matter. You won't be able to get them. I'm considering an Evo, but I'm not willing to pay sticker for it, and thanks to Subaru, looks like thats what Mitsu dealers will want. What was going through their heads? "Lets make an ugly competitor to the evo so we don't sell any."
The 2004 version of the STI didn't look bad at all, but it was all WAAAAAAAAAY Downhill from there.

Yeah, because we all have to look at them. :'(

Hmm, that's an interesting theory. Definite food for thought.

I honestly didn't like the looks of ANY of the US Spec WRXs or STis. I'm just really happy that Mitsu saw that light and is making a decent looking evo for a change.
srt4evah 08-06-2007, 06:20 AM ive read that the new evo will be 50 lbs lighter i thought
It's the new engine that is 50lbs lighter, the car itself is 200-300lbs heavier.
