: Anyone ever wonder..
k-lea 08-14-2007, 10:34 AM Anyone ever wonder what Mitsubishi, Volvo, and VW (I had more of them yesterday while driving) could do with a roadster? I'm speaking the size of a Miata, a Solstice, a Sky, and a the Z series.
I think Mitsubishi would make a KILLER roadster.
This is a concept: http://www.seriouswheels.com/pics-2006/2006-Mitsubishi-Roadster-Konzept-Poster-1280x960.jpg
I don't like the design but I'd love to see something in production. Anyone know anything I don't?
Kooldino 08-14-2007, 01:40 PM Kinda reminds me of an ugly version of the mazda kabura:

I'm really surprised that certain car companies aren't in certain markets. For instance, there really is no good, cheap RWD roadster on the market outside of the soltice/sky and the miata.
Also, I'm surprised that there aren't as many companies doing the AWD turbo $25K car thing.
And what gets me the most is that there are no good, cheap RWD tuner cars that aren't american v8s. However, Toyota is toying with the idea of that new Ae86, but it is weak on the power.
The Kabura was supposed to be this cheap RWD tuner car, but I doubt we'll ever see it. The market would love a $19K RWD car, with either a good 4cyl (maybe with a turbo trim?) or 6cyl motor. Maybe the new RWD Hyundai Tiburon will do just that.
Rosshole 08-14-2007, 01:47 PM Dana speaks the truth....

Have you seen the RX-7 concept release? It looks just like the kabura.
Kooldino 08-14-2007, 03:03 PM orly?
Kansei 08-14-2007, 03:15 PM Have you seen the RX-7 concept release? It looks just like the kabura.
pics or I'm giving you a 6 point infraction that may or may not expire and may or may not restrict your access to whatever the hell I feel like!

RX-7 fans could be rewarded for their patience at this years Tokyo Motor Show.
With the RX-8 having sole responsibility for carrying on the rotary engine DNA in the Mazda lineup, it’s been wearing some rather large shoes left behind by the FD3S RX-7 since 2003 (there’s a pun in there somewhere). Its four door 2+2 layout, although a brilliant design, leaves the real sports car enthusiasts wanting something a little more impractical like a real sports car should. The NA 13B-MSP rotary engine doesn’t quite move the RX-8 like the twin turbo RX-7 forefather did either. That’s where the new RX-7 Concept comes in.

The styling of the new RX-7 concept draws heavily on the Mazda Kabura Concept first shown in January 2006, but with a 2 seater layout and larger overall proportions which befit a flagship sports car. A turbocharged version of the Renesis 13B-MSP is expected to power the RX-7, all housed in a chassis and body reportedly much lighter than other rival sports cars. Mazda is very keen to revive its most prominent nameplate as other Japanese manufacturers are doing or planning to do in the near future.

Kansei 08-14-2007, 03:18 PM k thx.. now you only get 4 points
Kooldino 08-14-2007, 06:40 PM The Kabura looks hotter, but that would be a cool car. Hopefully they can keep the motors together.
Kansei 08-14-2007, 06:47 PM The Kabura had a 2.0 or 2.3 mzr in it... but it was rwd so rotary swap would be simple enough.. but if this comes out and shares the motor mount locations of the 2.0, Kansei's gettin an MX-5! :D rotary + MX-5 = weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Mr. Win 08-14-2007, 07:00 PM Its a concept... hopefully it will look like the latest rx-7 with some modern updates.
k-lea 08-14-2007, 08:37 PM Subaru.
That was the one I was originally thinking about. I think they'd also make a pretty kick-arse one.
Rosshole 08-14-2007, 08:45 PM an AWD roadster!
k-lea 08-14-2007, 08:46 PM No crap, that's what I was thinking.
Kooldino 08-14-2007, 08:50 PM I thought of that too, but it would put the weight a bit high.
Rosshole 08-14-2007, 08:51 PM now get it under 20 grand and you got a hawt product!
Kansei 08-14-2007, 08:52 PM Didn't a company take the impreza chassis and build just such a car on it?
the name isn't coming to mind right now but I know they do tuning for Subaru or something.. and I think they just bought Aston recently?
Rosshole 08-14-2007, 08:53 PM I thought of that too, but it would put the weight a bit high.
Audi TT comes quattro stylee, but they are not really known for much performance... or are they?
k-lea 08-14-2007, 08:55 PM Getting a roadster below the 20k mark is a reach. I don't see that happening anytime soon.
I don't expect anything to compare to the Miata in the weight department. The main reason I would love to see something new come along is because you only have a few select roadsters out there. It'll also give the MX-5 a scare. The Solstice and the Sky have already put the MX-5 is a squeeze. I just want to see mainly Mitsubishi and Subaru come up with something. Subaru was my main one I was thinking about. VW supposedly has something in the making but its a Audi look-a-like and VW doesn't have a great reputation at all so that would immediately cross that one out for me.
k-lea 08-14-2007, 08:57 PM Audi TT comes quattro stylee, but they are not really known for much performance... or are they?
I don't see many Audi's at events. Mainly because who wants to spend $$$$$ and ruin a car in mods? Same thing with the Z series. I don't see any of those at Auto Crosses or drags.
..not to mention they are slow.
Rosshole 08-14-2007, 09:04 PM that is what I thought. all show, not too much go.
k-lea 08-14-2007, 09:05 PM Well, who would want to? Would you buy a Audi for $52k and destroy it at events?
Rosshole 08-14-2007, 09:07 PM very true. an s4 is a different story though... 2000 twin turbo.... sexayness!
k-lea 08-14-2007, 09:09 PM This is how we are dumb in a way. Most people have ONE vehicle. My plan is to keep what I have and not abuse it and buy a pos later on and start toying with it.
I've gotten stuck once before and I will never do that ever again.
Rosshole 08-14-2007, 09:13 PM I would like a twin turbo S4 though at some point.
k-lea 08-14-2007, 09:13 PM PS- The pos is the MSP, hahaha.

Smart. This has been my plan for years but instead I'll buy an atom.
Rosshole 08-15-2007, 02:23 PM oohh... the Atom
k-lea 08-15-2007, 03:48 PM There is one that cruises around Austin.
Rosshole 08-15-2007, 03:52 PM I didn't realize that they were street legal in the us yet... for some reason I thought that they were track use specific still... does anyone know for sure?
