: Ralliart Detuned and Cheaper X
Robotix Junior 03-25-2008, 09:52 AM Hey guys,
Is anybody planning on getting the Ralliart Detuned X? I really don't see the point in having this little baby in the works. I mean if ya want an X, surely you want the whole thing?
I mean the Ralliart Detuned X specs are as follows:-
Max power:- 177kW (237BHP)
Max Torque:- 343 N.m (253 lb-lbf)
Tranny:- TC-SST (possibly a 5-speed manual later on)
'mechanical limited slip' rear diff ona simplified version of the Mits AWD system
Let me know what you think guys,
RJ out

AKYap 03-25-2008, 02:44 PM I dont know if its fair to call it a "de-tunned X" but rather a tuned up Lancer. I think there is a big reason to put this out. Not all people want the Evo, and not all people who want the Evo can afford it. If you want a reasonable priced sedan with AWD and a bit of power, right now only the Subaru WRX is the only option. A lancer ralliart would fit that niche very well and complete directly with the WRX. I do not see a loss by Mitsu bringing somethign like this out to the market.

Actually, I think of it as a detune Evo X. The reason behind that is that both lancer and ralliart, design and mechanical wise, is derived from Evo X. Unlike previous generation where they practically added AWD and turbo to the lancer to make the Evo, this time, they took away awd and turbo, and various other parts, to make the lancer. Ralliart will be the ultimate money maker for Mitsubishi, not everyone will be able to afford an X. There is a reason why Mitsubishi isn't mass producing the Evo, they are only selling it for the "Halo Effect", it even says so in part of their brochure. :bowlol:
MooseX 03-25-2008, 07:10 PM Rallyart is going to kill the WRX. The WRX is no longer a great car IMO. The RA' will sell and then instead of WRX' all over the place you might see RA's instead. Then those people will eventually want an Evo X or Evo X parts which should help with more aftermarket parts etc. Myself I went for the X because I didn't want to go through that stage again....like I did when I had my first Subie WRX and eventually had to get the STi. That cost me
michow87 03-25-2008, 08:01 PM yea, i have to agree with the fact that the wrx is gonna get blown away by the ralliart, but i have ot say, the wrx doesnt look half bad when in person. i actually liked it when i saw it. and it sounds raw as hell, which is a good thing

yeah but the big thing with the new WRX is it's now built on the Legacy platform Instead of the Impreza. I drove it and it feels 'mushy' just like the Legacy...+ more understeer than ever. Alot of the sportiness has been squeezed out of it. I'ts wuss now imo.

Interesting...I bet it is to reduce cost, since Legacys are built in the states...

...How about because it's $10K cheaper, and the WRX needs some competition?
If they had the Ralliart with a 5-speed out already, there'd be one sitting in the garage instead of the GSR.
I'll take $10K less, less weight, and less stupid useless crap (I.E., ASC) to make the driveline weaker. No, I have no proof that the newer diffs are weaker yet, but Mitsu's history points towards this.
I bought the car to modify for performance, not as a sports-luxury car.
The ASC is a complete joke if you have an ounce of driving skill and want to be able to push the car.

no doubt about it, if the RA was a 5 spd i'd be all over that...btw the mitsu guy at the NY auto show told me on friday that the RA will be about 25k and will be out next month...then the woman right next to him said summer...

The rep there today also told me by summer.
The Ralliart looks very nice, same Recaro seats as the GSR and same SST in the MR, with a slightly detuned X engine. It's one of the best bangs for your buck.
MooseX 03-26-2008, 03:14 AM I just talked to 'Negrodamus' the almighty one yesterday :bowlol:....He says the MR and RalliArt will be out about the same time the Iraq War ends....or May whichever comes first
XFactor 03-26-2008, 03:28 AM Any word on the RA Sportback model? Now that beauty definitely has a place in the Lancer family album.

Mushy like the Legacy? :) I don't mind my Legacy suspension too much (my wife complained it was harsher than her Acura MDX, no doubt!), but I noticed today quite a bit of lean going about 80 kph on the on ramp to the Alex Fraser bridge (headed from Surrey to Richmond). I have a used set of JDM STI pink springs (specific for the wagon) I'll be installing later this spring that should give me a nice modest drop and firm up the ride sufficiently for spirited driving!
I do think the Lancer Ralliart will steal plenty of business from the Impreza WRX, but most Subaru Impreza sales are the base model, not the WRX. It is good to have a choice in that segment of the market, AWD and moderate performance upgrade. I hope the Lancer Ralliart is able to be imported to Canada!

And I think we have the answer as to why the ralliart isn't out. Would also have one instead of my GSR.

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure all the new Imprezas are made in Japan, including the base, WRX and STI. Also, I think there are similarities in the chassis, but the wheelbase is still shorter in the Imprezas.
My Leggy wagon was made in Kentucky or some other such place! Damn it! If I'd gone for the Spec.B sedan it would have been Japanese construction.
Does Mitsubishi have any US production facilities?
