I notice that many tuners do not make Lower intercooler pipe, only Upper intercooler pipe. Is it because there is no/ very little gain from Lower intercooler pipe? Anybody know the gain from Lower intercooler pipe , also Upper intercooler pipe?

I think they did do some testing and found very little gains with the aftermarket ones? ( Lower intercooler pipe) I might have to do some searching of the threads to see if I can back it up. I might be incorrect.

turbotrix has it in their full kit, i think nisei is coming out with one. on the 9's the licp is more for faster spool up than hp, im sure it's the same on the 10's

does the lower pipe have and rubber to it like the upper? What's the size? If they can change it to a bigger size then I'm sure it would show gains, if just a faster spool.

So is there any advantage to installing an aftermarket upper intercooler pipe as opposed to the factory flexible upper pipe?

on2it is correct there are definately a few threads discussing the lack of output vs cost of purchasing/installing a LICP but damned if I can find any of them anymore.

Ultimately there's really not much to improve upon when referencing the Evo X stock licp. When compared to the few aftermarket options all of the licp's are routed in the same fashion and with the same material. Yes an aftermarket one may look sexier if your build is all show but for 90%+ of the X community we are searching for functionality. The only potential benefit i see with pipes is that they eliminate that small air pocket that the silicone hose has before the throttle body, but if I remeber the intial testing done by some of the big name companies the yield was not worth the product development cost.

bigger diameter =/= faster spool.

bigger diameter =/= faster spool.

I think theres always a balance of what size is best for given turbo. What if all the intercooler pipes were 6 inches in diameter with the stock turbo it would actually increase lag because it now would take more time to fill all thet extra cu" of space before getting to intake.
