: Should my turbo feel like this?
Evolutionrx8 03-29-2008, 12:23 AM Is my turbo supposed to pull evenly up to redline? I know it falls off as the RPMs climb, but shouldnt it still be smooth and consistent? Mine is really spurty. It pulls hard in little bouncy spurts as you step on the gas and the RPMs climb. Is this normal or ...?
The sensation is like what it would feel like if you were loosing grip while trying to accelerate really quickly... bouncy in the acceleration, like little cuts in the power. Hopefully someone understand what Im trying to explain.
EvoX-LI 03-29-2008, 12:24 AM How many miles do you have? Could it be the BOV not holding the psi?
Jackygor 03-29-2008, 12:32 AM ^^^
Perhaps he is talking about the the power drop near redline? If you are, it is normal, that is how the car is tuned.
JoeyMR 03-29-2008, 01:06 AM it might be because the car is running super rich up top
Nooka King 03-29-2008, 04:23 AM i heard that they fixed that problem, and they dont do that anymore, i think they retuned them at the factory, recall or something im guessing
Evolutionrx8 03-29-2008, 03:59 PM Im not talking about the drop off... that would still be a smooth fall off. This is like on, off, on. The response about the blow off valve seems to make the most sense.
What should I do about it?
4th_generation 03-29-2008, 04:07 PM do what you do with every new car RAPE the WARRANTY
Nooka King 03-29-2008, 07:15 PM yeah but you pay for that so rape it wont do you any good if you paid for it......but yeah RAPE the WARRENTY! thats what id do lol
bbyevo8u 03-29-2008, 08:50 PM stock ecu tune!
ddawg1130 03-30-2008, 12:06 AM Yeah, I have 1.7k miles and I took it easier for the first 1k and then only more recently have been pushing it but I've had that same thing. Plan on taking it to mitsu this week. Its ridiculous when it happens. The car literally jerks as you accelerate. Its really uncomfortable and not pleasant. Did it to me yesterday in 3rd all the way from 5k to 7k rpm. My girlfriend was in the car and she was like "wtf was that?" and she doesn't know shit about cars. Its bad when it happens.
Mr. Win 03-30-2008, 02:21 AM Sounds a bit like fuel cut... see what the dealer says and get back to us.
on2it 03-30-2008, 02:59 AM no it shouldnt feel like that. let the dealer look at it.
EVOLUTIONARY 03-31-2008, 02:03 PM Yea, that's not normal at all. :( I'm anxious to hear what the problem is.
tokeone 03-31-2008, 05:37 PM its cause its running rich.
two fixes
1) wait for the mitsu tune that should be here by the end of april
2) put on a cone filter/drop in filter to safely lean it out
this goes hand in hand with the idle issue... which you will soon be having too. seems to happen after the ecu learns how you drive on cold starts.
no worries, all is getting figured out. its not your turbo, its not your bov. its just the factory tune.

Oh no! Sounds like my 1G all over again! But I'm still gonna rock it and it can be forgiven with a good, quick fix.
machron1 04-02-2008, 08:56 PM I would try taking out the spark plugs and gapping them about 0.02" over stock and see if that helps. so if factory gap is 0.28" (?), try 0.30".
Tunerhead 04-06-2008, 04:21 AM Bump for updates from OP!
Evolutionrx8 04-26-2008, 02:47 PM Flash fixed the problem as far as I can tell. The car feels so smooth and refined now. I am not used to flashes doing much so I am pumped.
on2it 04-27-2008, 11:08 AM good to hear!
