It looks pretty nice. Those tails are tiny. It is quite a deal for everything under 32 & it has the auto-manual trans too. Not bad... I'm personally not into Americans cars that much, but this is nice.

Oh, & I would choose this over a Mustang & Charger, like you. Don't know if I would choose it over the '09 Camaro though...

Yes it is. However, when it comes to mod-ability, this car already has a whole lotta stuff for it. The Aussies developed a twin turbo system for the G8 at the same time they developed it for the American GTO. And if you don't like forced induction (lol @ that on an Evo Forum), then you could always shave those heads, and buy a production intake manifold from GM, a small cam, and enjoy 500+ rwhp/tq for just under 1k if you do the work yourself!

Sorry for being a fan boy, but I had BIG dreams for my GTO... RIP Sam :(

And lastly, the saddest part, if my insurance rates don't decrease by the time I'm 21, I'll probably be rolling in a G8...

How fast is this 500 hp car? The 2007 Mustang GT500 did 0-60 in 4.5, which is on par w/the Evo IX, which is over 200 hp less. 0-60 isn't necessarily the best gauge, but is a good indicator for straight line speed.

yeah they should get that sweedish drifter at least...

and by the way this car is safe... minor injuries with this crash...

Pontiac's famous tagline is "We build excitment". What does it say about the new Pontiac G8 that yesterday morning an Australian engineer driving a test car fell asleep at the wheel and piloted it down a 100-foot embankment, striking a boulder and flipping the car end over end? Well, the Pontiac G8 will surely be one of the more exciting vehicles from the brand in recent memory when it goes on sale early next year, but apparently for the engineer, 41-year-old Rolf Glenk, it wasn't exciting enough to keep him awake.

Glenk was the last in a convoy of G8s that were traveling on Highway 82 in Colorado yesterday morning when the accident happened. Being last in line, it was only after another engineer noticed their group was one short that Glenk and the totaled G8 were found flipped upside down at the bottom of an embankment. Glenk was taken to Aspen Valley Hospital and treated for minor injuries, while the G8 didn't so fare nearly as well. Glenk was also given a citation for careless driving.

How about the G8 GXP?

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/15/new-york-08-preview-2009-pontiac-g8-gxp-packs-402-hp-and-a/

The new Poncho flagship wears subtle visual tweaks including updated front and rear fascias plus the same 19" HSV wheels that were shown on the G8 concept. More importantly, the GXP packs GM's 6.2L LS3 V8 underhood. In this application (it's also in the Vette, where it makes even more power), the small-block punches out 402 horses and 400 lb-ft of torque rearward via a Tremec 6-speed manual gearbox or a HydraMatic 6L80 auto. (Add another 2 pound-feet of twist if you opt for the latter.) A fully-adjustable suspension helps keep the muscle sedan planted to the tarmac, and stopping power comes from the gang at Brembo. Look for an upgraded interior with glitzier trim and well-bolstered leather sport seats. A Pontiac stand littered with V8s? It's sure been a while. Welcome back to the party, guys. Let the wanton tire destruction begin!

I'm not tempted by this car at all.

The .85g skidpad and 66mph slalom are weak. That thing handles like a boat.

I'm not big on the looks either, but I wouldn't call it ugly.

OTOH, it's nice from 0-60 and nice from 60-0. I also like the fact that it has mid 300hp on 87 octane.

What it boils down to is that's just not my cup of tea. It's not a driver's car. If you drove that and an X back to back, it would be no contest.

Best looking pontiac in 30+ years imo. I like some of the late 60's GTO's. Although, I would still buy the Challenger or Camaro over it based on looks.

There might even be a coupe version.
I like it but would buy the Camaro instead.

The GXP is supposed to be a poor-man's M5, so I wouldn't expect it to compare to the EVO very closely. But we should reserve all opinions until the car is out with performance numbers and we have driven one...

The only thing we know is the engine, transmission, and styling... So far, so good...

Very true. They are definitley not practical. That's what I love about the Evo. Room for 4 comfortably yet still sporty and fast as balls! And balls are very fast mind you.

I think Dodge went too retro, not enough new styling on the Challenger. I love it, don't get me wrong, but I think Chevy did a better job on the Camaro of making it recall the old ones while still moving foward in design. Just my .2 cents

That said, I think the whole pontiac G8/coupe/GXP direction is awesome, and I mean the whole package. I am TOTALLY not a fanboy, I drive a Jeep and a Toyota Tacoma, but GM is doing awesome lately. I mean even the new Malibu, have you seen the fit/finish and interior quality?

Kudos to GM for improving.

Maddog78

Challenger is too heavy.
It's the penalty that is paid when it was developed off of a big sedan chassis.
