Nissan’s response to Toyota’s FR compact sports car.

Not to be outdone by Toyota, Nissan is expected to bring the basic concept of the Urge, which was first shown at the 2006 Detroit Show, to reality. Japanese motoring publication ‘Best Car’ are 60% sure we could see a new concept FR sports compact car shown to the public, possibly at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show. The car to be shown to the public would take on a more mainstream style compared to the Urge, losing it’s exposed motorcycle inspired design for something more befitting of the Nissan family of cars. A 2.0L powerplant is being considered for the new FR coupe, the details of which are still unknown.

Some might be quick to remark that this is indeed the new Nissan Silvia, although whether or not the Silvia name will be resurrected for this particular model is still up in the air. It wouldn’t be surprising for Nissan to use the Silvia name if Toyota were to announce their own upcoming RWD sports coupe as the ‘Sprinter Trueno’ or ‘Corolla Levin’ to link the new models with their (in)famous predecessors. Length, width and height are rumoured to be 3800 x 1700 x 1250mm with a wheelbase of 2300mm, some 250mm shorter than the (already shortened) upcoming Z34 Fairlady Z. These measurements are regarded as ‘just size’ in Japan, meaning it is only as big as it needs to be for its intended purpose, not a larger - and therefore heavier - version of the old S15 Silvia.

The new FR compact sports coupe is expected to retail for around 2,500,000 yen.

friggin awesome news for me, as I'm lookin at 1-2 more years of Protege before the body is totally rusted and poses a safety risk. I was getting really sad because the RX-8 will probably be discontinued by the time I'm in the market for a new car, but with stuff like this maybe I'll find the right car for me :)

I think its needs the QR25de from the Sentra SE-R Spec V and pump up the hp over 200hp or just put a VQ37 under the hood. Also this would make a good starting point for a Infiniti entry level model under the G.

Save the V6 for the infiniti version if they'll make one.

Take the 170-180hp QR25de and turbo it :) not sure if it's a strong engine or not, but it sounds good to me.. low boost turbo = 230hp no problemo.

If you build it, they will buy: Nissan confirms Silvia's comback in 2010

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m254/mikesirocz/scoop_1126_01.jpg

the GT-R signifies Nissan's Innovation, the 350z signifies their heritage, then the Silvia (or the 240sx or the 200sx or the 180sx.....you know what I meant...) is the model that signifies their youth. Since the famous (relatively) low cost FR sport coupe ended production in August of 2002. Young drivers armed with a fresh license and too much Initial D anime + Option drifting videos, are all yelling and screaming like the AGK (Angry German Kid) on youtube, demanding the comeback of the FR icon.

Well kids, today is your lucky day....

Admist all the GT-R coverage dominating the media, It has been reported that the Nissan "Silvia" has been confirmed by both the CEO of Nissan Carlos Ghosn and Nissan's COO Toshiyuki Shiga, and will be making its comeback in 2010 with a price point between 2,000,000~2,500,000 JPY.

Obliviously there are on information at this point on its spec other than it will be a FR sport coupe utilizing the new "Z" platform and possibility powered by a Renault engine.
