when doing transmission oil change this weekend, i found there were some oil leaks on the bottom of the transmission oil pan. not too bad, but you can see oils on the bottom edge, maybe the gasket is bad? i dont want to bring it to my local dealer if not something i can fix because they suck. is it normal? if not how do i fix it? if i need to remove oil pan, i would get the ssp deep pan but not sure where i can get a new gasket...

Thse is an MR rite?? Just get a gasket from ssp or mitsu dealer... check really good if the oil is coming from the gasket or maybe you damage the bottom of the tranny oil pan or maybe the oil is comin out from the place where you drain the oil

i found out that before the oil changed, the its around the gasket area. i did check if any damage on the pan but i didnt see anything wrong.

my question is, since i just did oil changed, can i keep it like this for a while or i have to get it fixed asap?

is there any indicated light or error/warning code if the leak is going to be bad?

i would get the ssp deep pan and gasket later when im ready that for sure i think.

You can keep it like that for a little but you gona have to be checking the oil all the time.. if you can buy it now just buy it, and if cant make sure to be checking the oil level....

There is no way to check the fluid level with the OEM setup. Also, I don't think the dealer will sell u a gasket for the SST... They don't sell anything for the SST besides filters...

I drove around for 2 months with a a couple of small leaks in my cooler system and didn't have any problems. As soon as I found someone to help me (thanks MDR!) problem was fixed and we topped the tranny off. In that hole time I had lost less than a liter of fluid.

Also, check to see if u are losing fluid from the drain plugs. When I was getting my SSP cooler installed, 2 of the drain plugs where loose and I was losing fluid from them.

it sucks that i cant check the level, will i see any warning light come on if the leak is going to be bad? the good thing is, i just got my tranny oil changed, that was how i found the leak, but still i got over 6L oil out from tranny .. so i think the leak is not too bad but i do want to know what i should do to get it fixed, if i cant get the gasket from dealer then i would have to look at ssp and do the deep pan as well... thats all money shit

IDK if there is a warning light if the level is low, I would guess not...

So what was the MDR fix?

So what was the MDR fix?

Well, in my situation I was leaking from the line from the SST to my SSP cooler where it connects to the SST in the bottom, a small gasket gone bad or something with the coupling?? They work closely with SSP and had a couple of new couplings and fixed it/fill it with fluid. They also tightened my pump unit which somehow was a bit loose and was creating quite a bit of residue around it.

i keep checking almost everyday after work this week, seems like no leak.. weird

I just had my SSt trans replaced for a similar leaking issue. Leak was between the plastic 'pan' or cover and the case of the trans. A new cover was tried but it was determined that the mating surface of the case was not level or flush where the two halves of the trans case come together. This was causing a leak at the bottom of the plastic front cover.

Anyone started a poll on those with GSR's losing the MC vs those with MR's losing the tranny yet?

i brought it to dealer, they re-torqued all screws and told me that there just some oils on the edge, nothing on the bottom cover and asked me to come back after 1000 miles.

i rechecked in after 1500 miles. they took a look and told me no more leaks. i hope that was not a lie because couple thousands miles later i brought my car to my friend's performance shop, they lift it up and found the same thing like what you see in the picture. then the tech asked if the service guy cleaned the oils..or it actually still leaking??

good thing is, we could not find any oils on the bottom cover and my car shifts and runs great. i will keep checking.

I know one guy that has had his worked on twice already. Maybe a bad batch.

I would require them to do a full transmission fluid service on any SST they do ANYTHING on for leaking. The only way to know if the fluid level is correct, is to drain it and fill it with a known quanity of fluid. Considering that the transmission replacement costs 12k, I would force them on this issue. NO EXCEPTIONS.

how are you going to force the dealer to do what you want them to do... i doubt i have the ability to do that.

I can see why they would replace them. If it has a leak and you are supposed to measure the fluid drained to determine the amount to replace, if you don't know how much was lost how do you know if it has the correct amount?

Because it is the only way they can guarantee the oil quanity is correct on the $12k transmission that is under warranty. If they don't comply, leave the car there, call MNA, and pitch an unholy fit about it. Loud enough for the new car showroom to hear. They'll do it.

Or just drive it around until the trans eats itself, and let them buy a trans.

when xMR and myself first installed our secondary SST coolers, another MR was at that garage at the same time. out of 3 cars, 2 of them had that same oil problem. mine was one, but after replacing fluid, i haven't had any problem since, pretty sure that other one is fine too. so both were like this from the factory. have heard of a few others with this problem.

I just called Jeremy at SSP and apparently they don't have the new gaskets on hand because normally they only come with an OEM Trans Pan. I'm going to contact my local dealer, Cortese Mitsubishi, and see if there is some way to get the gaskets seperately since items like this should be available regardless of them requring the entire transmission be replaced upon any problems or not. If it comes down to it I'll order a new OEM transmission pan and have a gasket company spec out replacement one if there is interest.

While the SSP Deep Trans Pan is very nice, it tends to squash the gasket quite a bit when torqued properly and if it has to come off you are definitely risking higher chance of gasket failure each time. If that happens while tracking the car at speed it could get extremely ugly very fast.
