i saw that and it just pissed me off. ther're not gonna be able to crush every street racing car in cali, much less in the rest of the US. so what would be the point of doing this. i bet those guys were paid to give in they're cars to be crushed. idk but i would shank a b!tch if my car was to be crushed. especially when i work my a$$ off to pay my car.
Rosshole 08-24-2007, 01:47 PM at least I will never have to worry about my car getting crushed for this...
back on topic... The guy in the first video probably drives a chevy and just hates imports.
dragonslayer27 08-25-2007, 06:45 AM hey hey i drive a chevy. and here i am looking into the evo x. haha i know what you mean though, sometimes ppl can get really into the whole domestic vs. import argument. i'm just into cars. period. dot dot dot... colon close parenthesis :)
silvreclipse 09-01-2007, 03:04 AM i think the gto commercial is more street race type.thers not much action going but the point is there.

soopah 11-15-2007, 06:24 AM Anybody can race any POS on the road. When I was younger I drove recklessly in a Datsun station wagon, and later in a Tercel hatch with only three out of four cylinders firing. It is the dumb ass driver, not the car, that is responsible for their actions. A car like the Evo is designed to go extremely fast in a short period of time and an inexperienced driver could quickly get into trouble. The Lancer GTS takes a bit longer to get going but could still be dangerous.
Anyway, I think it is not the car or brand presented that is the problem, it is the imagery presented. Does it show images of street racing in the ad? I think it does. Should presenting this kind of imagery be banned in a commercial intended to sell cars? Well, it happened for cigarettes, why not for cars? But I agree with the fellow near the end of the video segment, speed sells, and it has for as long as cars have been marketed for sale. This is nothing new. What is new is the amount of news coverage street racing gets, and the dead people that sometimes result from it. So this is not going to go away.

Tony Van Alphen, Business Reporter
Mitsubishi Motors Canada has lost an appeal of an advertising regulator's finding that one of the auto maker's ads showed a disregard for safety.
Advertising Standards Canada says in its third-quarter report that an appeal panel confirmed an original decision that sharply criticized the company's flashy spring television ad of a Lancer sports sedan roaring down streets and complained it glorified street racing.
The advertising council, a self-regulating industry body, initially called on Mitsubishi to cancel the commercial permanently during the summer. Mitsubishi had already stopped running the ad, pending "a normal review" but strongly defended the content, saying it did not promote street racing.
The regulator said the ad did not look like a professional race, which Mitsubishi claimed, because it showed a woman dropping her hands to open an event and a driver wearing high-top sneakers.
Furthermore, the ad ended with the statement "Street Legal. We think." That point, plus readily identifiable music aimed at young people, contributed to the idea of street racing, the council said.
The ad appeared at a time when local attention was focused on the dangers of street racing after several fatal accidents involving speeding cars and reckless driving.
Consumers and safety advocates complained the ad promoted street racing.
Mitsubishi told the regulator it has no plans to run the ad again.
(Soopah: I can't argue against this ruling. Would you like some product being advertised while promoting drunk driving? How is street racing any different? Lives are lost.)

Yes, but the Mitsu ad was much more in your face and obvious. The GTO ad is like a horror movie that shows the spurt of blood but not the actual head being cut off. Remember when they wouldn't show you the head being cut off? How I miss those days.
