Should I tape off the headlights and tails when I buff with the 7472xp? Or is it not necessary?

You can if you want. I taped off my tails but headlights I usually don't get close to touching. Only takes a minute to tape off the tails, and you're probably taping off more anyway so might as well not try to cut corners and save a minute or two.

You should tape off the plastic trim so you don't hit it with the polisher.

^^ plastic, chrome, rubber and other trim, this way you wouldnt have to remove polish from those surfaces and getting your pads dirty from rubber or plastic trim. sometimes its very hard to take polish/sealant/wax off the trim and should be taped off until you done wazing the car, only exclusion there could be is vertical door pillars if they are painted because they can be polished


usually we only tape tail lights off if they dont need to be polished but you can polish tails and headlights with same product as paint. probably good idea for headlights if they are in good shape to avoid taking UV clear coat off the headlights which protects from them getting oxidized
