my friend did it for years and never had problems. by starting out in first, revving to 4k and then going into 3rd, then the same to 5th am i wearing things out faster. i hate stick and i have problems which is why i have an MR, but my wife wanted to save a $1000 and get a stick in her lesbaru. i only use it to go get stuff in town or every other day since its much better on gas than my evo.

not a problem at all. i do it from time to time, used to do it in my svt focus all the time. i know a lot of people who do it too. some cars like the older GM 6 speeds had a skip shift built into it where if you werent driving the car hard enough it actually blocked out second gear and had you shift straight into either 3rd or 4th(cant remember) to reduce fuel consumption. of course, there was an aftermarket kit made to get rid of it though just because its more of a pain in the ass than anything else when it tells you what you have to do.

As long as vehicle speed and the selected gear aren't incompatible, there is no problem with this. Just don't lug or over-rev the engine. Only possible side effect is synchros having to work harder if your're shifting very quickly, which should be a non issue on a 1st-->3rd and 3rd-->5th shift.

Also, my wife does this whenever she's driving and it drives me nuts. She likes to skip over third... I occasionally skip over 4th.

oh yeah, i pretty sure f-body camaros had skip shift for traffic/emissions where you went from 1st to 4th. was gonna buy one a long time ago. thanks i didn't really think it was a problem, just wanted to be a bit more sure

you will save more gas!!! unless you have a bigger turbo and need to put down your foot more to get moving.

My moms '02 corvette has a light that tells you to shift 2-4 or something like that. If im making this up my bad but im pretty sure. I tried googling the dash lights and came up with squat.

^ My brother has an '08 Corvette, and it has a dash light that tells you to shift from 1st --> 4th during certain city driving/traffic conditions, for fuel savings/emissions reasons.

Corvette, Camaro and the new Mustang all have the skip-shift feature from factory. It blocks you from going into 2nd when your RPM or throttle position is too low, therefore saving you on gas. Easily defeated with tunes.
The funny part was, most people started to drive more aggressively to avoid the skip-shift, and therefore consumed more fuel!
