I finally ordered my X. Any one have ideas on break-in?

leave the dealership, turn on to the road, stop the car, put it in supersport, turn off traction control. hold your foot on the brake, mash the accelerator, let go at 5k rpms and dont stop until you run out of road... this should break it in nicely :P

There are varying opinions on break in process.....

The one thing everybody agrees on is DO not run the car at a steady RPM for prolonged periods of time... ie: if you are on the highway don't set cruise control at 3k for too long or at all... Make sure the tach is always moving.

Some say that keeping the RPM below 5k RPM is also a good idea, while others say using the whole RPM range is a better idea....

Some say staying off boost is a good idea, while others say driving it like it's supposed to be driven is the way to go.

I personally think it's alright to boost during break in, just don't go WOT through all the gears or really drive it hard.... but a taste of boost here and there while keeping the RPM's moving is what I suggest. I also revved over 5k during my break in.

I just got my X last week. So hard not to run her hard but I've been able to keep her down. Spirited driving is ok once in awhile, but holding speed and RPM's is a no no.

Stupid question, when would boost kick in? And what Mods are good?

Ming what end of town are you at? For my break in I tried to keep the revs as varied as possible, and usually kept the revs under 5k rpms for the first 1000km. I think with a bone stock car the majority of the powerband happens before 5k anyways, so when I finally finished the break in and started going to redline the car didnt feel a ton faster or anything :P

As for initial mods a custom tune will go a long way right off the bat, but if your planning to do bolt on modifications I would plan to have everything installed before you do the tune.
If I could start all over again I would ignore all the small stuff, and immediately get the AMS turbo kit and supporting mods. Get the power out of the way right off the bat :)

drive it like you stole it

mods: turbo back exhaust (test pipe), air intake, Upper intercooler pipes, custom tune. youll be over 300 whp easy with that! :)
