I don't fully understand all of the finer details of this, but after watching this 20 minute demo video, I'm super impressed.

Linux MCE doesn't have a flexible framework --FAIL

Plus it's an add-on to Kubuntu.. Kubuntu is already bloated enough.. why does one need KDE when they should never see that layer of the UI at all?

openbox would be a better choice.

mythbuntu will rock linux mce when it gets a stable release (october-november timeframe).

For now, in any flavor of ubuntu, all you need to install is the ubuntu-mythfrontend (don't quote me on the metapackage name, I'm at work) metapackage and bam a nice dedicated frontend pc you will have.

I will have to play with LinuxMCE when I get back from cycling tonight.

It does look like a good solution for a serverless setup.. but for those who want the speed, stability, and redundant data storage of a server, it seems to be .. just not the right product.

it does seem to handle distributed content storage well. I'll have to set up a test computer farm with some of the spare laptops in the basement to see how it performs

plus the install process is a hack at best. it is grossly misaligned with the standard Ubuntu way of doing things. How they got to a 'stable' release with it still like that I have no idea. Mythbuntu is alpha still and they have their own live cd, no multi stage installation, no need to use a command line...
