: Will the X be your first boosted car?
Kooldino 08-21-2007, 09:17 PM I have a feeling that many of the future evo X owners here have never owned a boosted automobile before.
Myself, I've had (and still have) one boosted car. It wasn't boosted from the factory, but now it runs 19psi of boost on a GT28RS turbo.
How about you?
Jackygor 08-22-2007, 03:01 AM Yup, my last car was the G35 coupe.
Kooldino 08-22-2007, 03:10 AM ^Nice car. Ever drive a performance turbo car before?
Jackygor 08-22-2007, 03:13 AM ^Nice car. Ever drive a performance turbo car before?
Nop, looking forward to that day :peace:
I will probably get to drive my friend's 335i before i get my evo x though.
20th on the madafawken list :uzi:
Kooldino 08-22-2007, 03:18 AM 20th on the list to drive his car? Geez.
There's a guy here (Prissy_Potty_Pants) who just got rid of his G35 for a 335i. I should steal his keys.
Turbo cars are fun, especially since they're so tunable. The only thing you probably won't like about driving a turbo 2.0L is the fact that the car will be weaker down low than what you're used to. Power is generally nonexistent until 3000rpm, then it surges on strong.

haha no, 20th on the preordered Evo X list :(
So i guess i shouldn't expect as much torque as I did in my g35 before 3000 rpm? Haha, i heard when the turbo spools, its like turning on the NOS.
Kooldino 08-22-2007, 03:35 AM haha no, 20th on the preordered Evo X list :(
:ohsnap:

Definitely not. before then, the turbo won't really be adding much power...certainly not enough to make up for the fact that it's 2 cylinders shay and 1.5L smaller than your VQ35.
Haha, i heard when the turbo spools, its like turning on the NOS.
LOL, more or less. My turbo Mazda is even crazier like that. If you punch it at 2,000rpm, it's slow...slow...kinda sloOOOOOMG MY FACE IS GOING TO TEAR OFF.
In a nutshell, you just have to be more mindful of the gear you're in. You have to get used to downshifting if you want to accelerate.
EndgamE 08-22-2007, 03:37 AM It will be my first boosted car too :o

haha sigh, I have to wait for the 2nd shipment :(
I am driving a 99 civic beater right now with a intake. I really like it! good on gas, and slow as fuk!
Kooldino 08-22-2007, 04:34 AM Hey, sounds like you don't have a car payment to me. All the better for saving up on a nice down payment. :)

Yeah, but when you get into boost, it's a disturbing sound when the car's right next to you at 4:30am rounding a turn. All i saw was tire spin, smoke, and you were gone. I wish my P5 wasn't so slow...
I'm hoping for an EVO in a year or two. By then, it should be within reach.
DarkStar4000 08-23-2007, 01:20 PM No my other car was a 3000GT VR4 she had too many mods to count....
Wraith 08-24-2007, 03:45 AM No it won't be my 1st boosted car, I had many different types in the past - including supercharged and NOS boosted, not just turbo forced induction :)
BUT, this will be my 1st Mitsu Evo and my 1st AWD (all wheel drive) car :)
_Chris_ 09-26-2007, 10:45 PM My 2nd. I have an 11 sec Stage 3R SRT-4.
currently drive 04 jetta GLI with too many damn mods...
dad just got 07 e92 335i so technically 2 boosted in the family
soopah 10-02-2007, 07:33 AM I had a super charged MINI Cooper S (black eye purple!) and I drove the John Cooper Works version at the Zandvoort track. This will be my first turbo car. I currently drive a 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid AWD which is nice but boring. We'll keep it as a family and long distance hauler.
TriStateEvo 10-20-2007, 01:40 AM I've only known boosted Mitsubishis all my life. Then again, I work for the company.
MDMitsuX 10-22-2007, 04:19 AM I've always been a subaru enthusiast...when the WRX came to the states, that was the car I always wanted...so I finally got one in 2004...a week after I bought it I started modding it...eventually I put a vf22 on it and got 288 whp/288 tq...well I had to get rid of it...so I was gonna move up to the STi, but I sold mitsubishis this summer as a summer job and loved the styling of the new lancer and the features and options it had...so when I found out about the X, I knew that's what I wanted...and subaru has upset me with the new STi styling...just horrendous...so Evo X it is...
Kooldino 10-22-2007, 04:23 AM Very good. :)
Welcome to the forums.
BTW, is MD short for Maryland?
MDMitsuX 10-22-2007, 11:18 AM yes it is...I grew up in Md...I worked for Renn Kirby Pontiac and Mitsubishi in Frederick, md over the summer...I go to school in PA though...not a fan of pa...
_Chris_ 10-22-2007, 11:22 AM Welcome to the forums. Im at Ft Meade MD
Spoonie 10-23-2007, 07:38 PM First boosted ride? Are you kidding me.
Here's the list of FI cars that i've owned
1) 1990 Eagle Talon TSI
2) 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX
3) Audi A4 1.8t
My current car isn't a turbo.
DaemonSadi 10-24-2007, 06:18 PM 1st car: 95 Buick Regal - Gotta learn with something!
2nd car: The eclipse - was a grad/bday gift, had to be FWD and under 15k
So yea... it will be my first, not complaining though! First two cars I didn't pay for!
jApOrMs 12-31-2007, 04:47 AM my first posts! my current car is a cobalt ss
Lock & Load 12-31-2007, 05:01 AM My main concern is that the EVO X wont rev to or redline at 9000rpm like my current Mazda RX8 .
Cheers
Michael
Spiritech 12-31-2007, 05:52 AM Yup, the X will be my first boosted car. I've had a 86 V6 Mustang, which was a hand me down. I tried to fix that thing but it was in such bad shape I couldn't keep up. There is nothing like driving in a rainstorm with no heater, no way to de-fog the windows so I had to keep my windows open to help while I wiped down the drivers glass while driving, at the same time the sunroof would send raindrops down to ping my eyeballs, as all that was happening I would have to fight the screwed up steering balance that pulled to the right hoping the car would not do one of its wonderful sliding tricks on the slick road. No words can describe the shape it was in.
So now I have a 96 Cavalier, which I got when the Mustatng became unrepairable, or at least, just not worth it.
My freinds' been letting me cruise around in his IX, so I have a little turbo car experience under my belt.

I too have the same concern, well sort of. I am just wondering if AWD will feel less intense when compared to RWD car, as in when you feel like you are being pushed into the sit.

Haha, well hte 7600rpm fuel cut will ensure that it won't...unless you override that somehow.

Wow, I've heard of some rough cars, but Jesus dude, I don't know how you didn't just drive that thing off of a cliff.
A '96 Cavalier doesn't sound too great either, but I'm sure it was much better than the old Stang. When you finally get your X, I think you'll be in for a well deserved treat.

I wouldn't worry about that. If anything, an AWD car will help push you into your seat because you'll have more traction to do so.

That makes sense, I guess I just wasn't using my head...haha
I am really looking forward to this car, it is a BIG upgrade in terms of performance and practicality in comparison to my old car, G35 coupe. I am actually not to concerned about interior downgrade as well, since G35 has a pretty bad interior :(. I just hope the evo x doesn't have a squeaky interior.

Well, I am a really good driver :D, but really it helps that I live in OC, Cali which is pretty flat and not there is not to many rainstorms. The Cavy has been a good Econobox; less than 3/4 of a tank to get to Vegas, the Stang, however was like 8-12 MPG's at the end of its life. But, yeah with the Cavy, I now have to take turns really slow because the axels sound like they are going to break; the tranny broke a few years ago too, which I got it fixed for cheap; however, there was a reason, that mechaninc was shit. It runs, but it's rough. I'm glad I learned all this before I get a car like the X though, now I wont care so much about the cost, as long as the job is done good and with care.

For what its worth; I know the X is a little more tame then the IX, but my buddy does freak me out and send me back into my seat when he launches his IX(I don't like not being the driver though).
gioco 12-31-2007, 12:13 PM I used to drive F360 (watch pic) but just when I race. I'd like a car for streets too. It's EvoX.
Yea it'll be my first boosted ride. And my first 5spd man. too. Hope I get the hand of it. I've driven manual car before, but not in the states and not for a long time.
Jackygor 12-31-2007, 06:31 PM I used to drive F360 (watch pic) but just when I race. I'd like a car for streets too. It's EvoX.
And you haven't posted pictures of your F car yet? shame on you!
DSMissed 12-31-2007, 08:37 PM I've owned about 5 boosted DSM's, still have one of them, and my Cobalt is supercharged.
Boost is my only addiction!
UnctrldRage 01-02-2008, 12:31 AM I'm actually looking at two cars right now. The Evo X or the G8 GT...If the EVO drives better for my taste it will be my first boosted car... But I will not be purchasing immediately would like to wait for the first release recall bugs to be worked out...if you know what I mean.
Meero 01-02-2008, 01:39 AM aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! i think i voted wrong!! i have never owned a boosted car!! Is there anyning I should know?

Pic too small. :(
Dr.EVOx 01-02-2008, 05:48 PM only had one car, which was an 02 accord coupe
it was a brilliant car, with a V6 and used regular unleaded fuel (decent fuel economy)... unfortunately, the car had a tragic accident (no, I was fine.. as you can see I'm typing this currently)... as of right now, still in college.. managing myself by using public transportation. NOT FOR LONG! just waiting patiently for the NEW EVO X!!

The Rockstar 01-18-2008, 04:19 PM I've had 2 boosted cars before. I had a 2001 Civic Ex turbo and a 1991 Crx JDM GSR Swap turbo, then I sold both and got my 05 IS300.
_Chris_ 02-11-2008, 11:44 PM :bump:
Nooka King 02-11-2008, 11:57 PM my srt-4 (look Below) and have lots of experience with my dads cars lol (when i was younger lol) but me myself and i have had one turbo car, but ive driven so much more than that......:shades:
Robevo 02-12-2008, 12:20 AM yep i had some turbo charged car before. And most of them was awd too...
but i never had car with turbo charger and over 3l.:godance:
emitsu97 02-12-2008, 02:02 AM When i finally get my X or Ralliart it'll be my 3rd. I still own my 1st(97 Eclipse GSX modded) and 2nd(99 Eclipse Spyder GST).
Tunerhead 02-12-2008, 03:40 AM This will be my first turbocharged car, but 2nd boosted car. First boosted car was supercharged.
Nooka King 02-12-2008, 11:37 PM turbo charged and boosted is basicly the samething, just diff ways of haveing forced air induction car.
This will be my 3rd boosted car. Mitsus, both of them, prior.
Nooka King 02-13-2008, 12:10 AM i need a race so bad, i live in dallas, (rowlett) and i need to have some fun win or lose i dont care lol. and evo's by chance lol
Just 1 the whiny bitch below

Nooka King 02-13-2008, 02:55 AM i guess in a sence they do well because they are to diff things but pully or or exaust run witch one would you rather have?
soopah 02-18-2008, 08:19 PM Just 1 the whiny bitch below
I can't tell what kind of car you've got, what is it?
kwise22gsr 02-18-2008, 08:47 PM I have had a few turbo cars and still do. Turbos are the best power adders for conventional engines. In fact I own the original turbo cars that started turbo'd cars in the USA. The predecessor to the 3000gt. The RWD torque monster from the 80's!!!!
88 mitsu starion full engine build, race preped head, gt37 turbo, sds ems.

In fact its going to take alot of hp for my evo x to beat this ol' girl!!:shades:
silvreclipse 02-18-2008, 08:58 PM nice dude the car looks clean pretty badass.
GAmbrose 02-18-2008, 10:03 PM This probably won't mean much to you guys but I've had a SEAT Cupra R with a 1.8T putting out 210Bhp:
http://www.btinternet.com/~gary.ambrose/Car/CupraR6.jpg
And a Ford Focus ST MK2 with a 2.5 Litre Turbocharged engine putting out 240Bhp:
http://www.btinternet.com/~gary.ambrose/Car/FocusST_006.jpg
Both were front wheel drive. So though this won't be my first Turbo car, it'll be my first AWD car.

Jackygor 02-18-2008, 10:08 PM ^^^
bad ass cars!
_Chris_ 02-18-2008, 10:17 PM Very nice indeed.
Gumbö 02-18-2008, 10:24 PM Nope never owned a car with a turbo in fact.
E46 M3 had 343bhp, plenty of power but no turbo.
350z had 270bhp but no real guts and never felt like it had complete control on the twisty stuff at speed.
GAmbrose 02-18-2008, 10:31 PM Was a heavy beast the ol 350z.
Gary A
Gumbö 02-18-2008, 10:41 PM Was a heavy beast the ol 350z.
Gary A
Not compared to the M3 :-D
Did you like the 350? I couldnt wait to sell it, I only bought it as a stop gap because the residuals were so good.
GAmbrose 02-18-2008, 10:42 PM I loved it, but it was my first and only roadster. Nothing quite like open top motoring.
Performance wise it never seemed THAT fast, though the noise it made was rather nice. I thought it handled the twisties fairly well considering it was somewhat nose heavy though.
Gary A
Gumbö 02-18-2008, 10:46 PM Fair enough, Ive never wanted a rag top because I use my car all year round and I dont imagine they are that good in the frost. Or warm for that matter!
I suppose it was the brakes that worried me the most. I was all right coming out of bends but on more than one occasion when braking late it would try to swerve about. I hated teh bloody traction control too, it just cut all the power :(
I can't tell what kind of car you've got, what is it?
Cobalt SS/SC

Nooka King 02-18-2008, 11:41 PM i like ss cobalts, it was just the for the price i paid for my srt-4, stock for stock the srt-4s wipe the floor with many cars in its class, and were eventually pitted against subarus and evos and held its own and no one can forget how legendary the neons were in the scca,;)

Thanx boys, Nooka same deal, got a good price on the SS and liked the look more than the srt but now for bigger better b/c FWD sucks.
EVO X, 135i, 335i..........we'll see
Nooka King 02-22-2008, 09:07 PM i know what you mean thunderhead, i know whet you mean.
