: stiff tranny due to cold weather?

Hello all,

I'd like your opinions on my tranny. Car basically has about 7500 miles and I recently had my clutch and flywheel replaced at around 7,100. I had it replaced at the dealership with a Clutch Masters FX200 and an ACT streetlight flywheel. I used the same OE fluids. It is getting pretty cold, dropping to 30f tonight so I am assuming this is where the stiffness is coming from. Due to this, I let the car warm up every morning and wait for the engine to to idle at about 700-800rpms. It is at times very difficult to get the car into first and I have to apply force sometimes to make it go in.

Once the car warms up, it is easier but still a pain in the ass sometimes. Is this normal, at least during the winter or should I get it checked out? Car is basically stock with a few mods such as greddy exhaust, k&n drop-in, greddy informeter, still stock tune.

Cold weather causes this. Its normal. Don't force anything in though. Patience. Let it warm up.

The stock fluid is fail. Swap it out for some Redline MT-90 (or MT-85 if you live in a climate that is regularly cold) or AMSOil API GL-4. Honestly though the stock Diaqueen transmission fluid is not that great (IMHO). For your diffs and Transfer Case the stock Diaqueen works quite well, but Mitsu failed on the MT gear oil...

:yeahthat:
i usually let the car warm regardless, the warmer it is the smoother transition. I dont really know if its a fact but u warm the car before a drive in any weather it will better you in the long run

Truthfully speaking, I think 3 to 4 min should be enough. Please correct me If I am wrong as many people have a difference of opinion.

some people drive it straight when they start it up, i think its all personal preference, when it gets cold around here i usually let it sit for about 3-4 mins also, better safe then sorry lol

have you actually run amsoil tranny fluid or are you just spitting off what you read on the forums.

amsoil trans fluid is a lot notchier than stock when cold.

op let it warm up good, mine don't go to gears when it's really cold and not warmed up.

is it easy or expensive to have a shop do the tranny oil repalce with ams for me?

you guys know that amsoil and ams have nothing to do with eachother, right?

if you want super smooth shifting when cold, run viii/ix trans fluid that's gl-3. it will be notchier under high load/rpm shifts though.

Are you asking if it's expensive to have a shop do it? Probably not, but it's stupidly simple, why bother?

I was not a fan of the AMSOIL MT oil when I ran it; I prefer the Redline cocktail.

Yeah cold weather does that.
I'm running works ss, the shifter bushings, and 490g counter-weight atm.
Haven't gotten a chance MT yet and underhood bush it yet.
The weather here in Jersey has been 25F-35F in the mornings. You know it's serious when your car flashes ICY ROADS.
and even though there is still some "stiffness" after a 5 minute warmup, the car is still very drivable, and better as it warms up.
the crap leather knob is crap

a blox knob is highly recommended. I'll prob do an oil / tranny flush asap I hit my 5k mark just to get the tranny done with.
