on2it 04-23-2008, 11:23 AM yes it does work for the fast key equipped GSR. I turned down this additional option in Oct.. was going to cost me $500NZ.. I rather spend that on fuel thanks. :)

Change "Parts Category" to --- All Category --- :shades:
Where does the button reside exactly? On the dash?
Is it a DIY part?
Someone be the guinea pig and order one!

Robevo 05-08-2008, 08:41 PM yes you can't start with the key, but also you can't without it. :)

Thank you in advance.

The $50 price tag look hella sick to me! lol
TheSin 03-19-2009, 12:48 PM if it works on the MR, how does the clutch brake thing work without a clutch pedal?
RayMR 03-20-2009, 05:57 PM Works on the MR.. Brake on, press and hold for start. Brake OFF, press once for basic, press twice or hold for all electronics.
R0ME0 03-20-2009, 10:59 PM do you have it in your car? Pics would be nice!
TheSin 03-20-2009, 11:00 PM RayMR, thanks, not sure if I'm going to do this yet, but I am considering it and that was the info I needed.
RayMR 03-21-2009, 06:06 AM do you have it in your car? Pics would be nice!
Not on my car 'yet'... its a virgin.. 300 miles old.
BUT i saw it on my friends Singapore spec MR when i was visiting him in singapore(duh).
Only issue with it is it LOOKS a little ODD sitting on the dash STANDING out... Its a little BIG for it to sit on the damn dash trim. Also the switch may be aligned for the RHD car dash, so that MAY be an issue on US Spec LHD cars.
The switch basically re-wires in parallel your normal steering column switch to a 3 stage switch on ur dash. So u unplug the connector from ur steering column and plug it into the connector for the switch, which goes to your steering column also (if u need to start the car with a key).

Okay, continuing this thread.... SO I decided to try this button out. And maybe there are different ways to wire this up or something, because the button as it currently sits in my X DOES NOT WORK like how its described above...
Since I can't read japanese either, it looks like I wont be able to figure out the different ways to make this function. So far, this is how its working for me. I STILL HAVE TO TURN THE ignition knob to position 2 (I have the GSR manual with Fast Key).. and THEN, the START button lights up, and I can press it to start the car... (in leu of turning the knob to position 3). This is dissapointing to say the least because there was alot of wiring harnesses and a small brain box that all needed to be connected for this to work.
I thought that the functions were going to be similar to the Toyotas, etc where you just press the button with foot on brake/clutch... and car starts... or simply press button by itself to turn on accessories such as radio, etc...
it does not function like that.
Can anybody share any insight to this?
antics22 04-29-2009, 07:22 PM in addition, when u press the button again while the car is running, IT DOES NOT TURN THE CAR OFF nor does it remain INACTIVE. It cranks the starter even when the engine is running!!!! :fail:
kelvar13 04-29-2009, 07:46 PM wow that really sucks. I was hoping someone was going to be able to make this work because in all reality this car should have come with a push button stock because of the fastkey. *mutters* damn non fast key lancers...
ddawg1130 04-29-2009, 07:49 PM damn... that does suck. I was also hoping someone would figure it out. :(
well gl trouble shooting it. maybe Sic could help you out. i'm pretty sure he's in Japan right now and could maybe translate the directions for you.
antics22 04-29-2009, 08:39 PM I guess to focus on the posititves... it does look cool.. but so far, its just a pretty $300 novelty button in my car.
I have no idea what it was that RayMR saw in Singapore, but its DEFINITELY not the same button/key. The switch doesnt seem like a 3-stage switch....
spy007 04-29-2009, 09:14 PM I have to go search on this... because someone else had already installed this piece with the fast key option and it works fine. You probably have it wired up incorrectly. They had stated (and ill quote when i find it) that there is a series of clutch or brake depresses to do different things like acc only on or things like that. They dont have to turn anything in order for it to function.
Edit:
OK I cant find what I thought I had read before. Only thing I could find was this thread with Mr Win posting the steps for the different button pushes. Ill keep looking on other sites too... coulda swore I read a good writeup on it somewhere.
antics22 04-29-2009, 09:51 PM yes, keep me posted. The kit is pretty much plug-n-play so its pretty difficult to mess it up. Im thinking, maybe theres some sort of way to not connect one harness, etc, or programming via ETACS, etc...
who knows... if a 13k Nissan Versa can have a simple start button... why is this $300 factory oem kit not the case?
R0ME0 04-29-2009, 11:56 PM man that sux. Do you have pix of the install on where it sits etc?
TheSin 04-29-2009, 11:58 PM I'd like to see pics too
Evolve 04-30-2009, 12:37 AM It's as pointless as the OEM push-button startup in the Honda S2000 if you still have to turn the key/knob to on. Also, why the hell did Mitsu cheap out of the Evo like this and not just put in a button?
kelvar13 04-30-2009, 12:45 AM +1 for the pics
antics22 04-30-2009, 05:19 AM well, the bezel that comes with the kit is clearly for RHD vehicles... I opted to relocate the cigarette lighter and placed the start button there instead...
PS. My cigarette lighter now resides in my center armrest tucked away and out of sight. I can still plug my cell phone charger into it, etc.

Its a pretty straight-forward plug-and-play setup. With all these harnesses and module, etc, you would think it would do more than just simply start the starter... you know what i mean?

ILIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:rock::rock::rock::shades::shades::rock::rock::thumbup:
TheSin 04-30-2009, 01:09 PM yeah good job, looks good there, not very convenient place for track restarts, but looks good.
kelvar13 04-30-2009, 03:57 PM very clean install. looks great. Again sucks that it isn't what i would call a fully functional start button but definitely looks good.
R0ME0 04-30-2009, 05:07 PM I thought that the button mounts on the dash? No?
TheSin 04-30-2009, 05:09 PM it does, but as he stated, it's for RHD so he moved the mounting so it worked and looked better on LHD models
R0ME0 04-30-2009, 05:14 PM I wanna see how that mount looks liek is what i mean.
TheSin 04-30-2009, 05:16 PM http://japanparts.com/images/ImageFromDB.php?base=1&no=12958
It's made for the small side of the dash trim, on LHD cars it's on the left of the steering and RHD it's on the right, so the angle would be completely wrong for LHD.
antics22 04-30-2009, 05:36 PM yea, I never liked that bezel from the get-go.
Even if they made a LHD version, my plan was to integrate the button somewhere more OEM-looking. Im gonna try to figure this out. My thinking is: the oem ignition cylinder is in essense a 3-stage switch on its own. I dont see why I wouldnt be able to "emulate" the 3 stages using a button instead of the three turns to start the car....
antics22 04-30-2009, 05:41 PM yeah good job, looks good there, not very convenient place for track restarts, but looks good.
you'd be surprised. Next time youre in your car, pretend the button is there and see how easy it is to reach with your thumb. Its a pretty convenient location!
Just dont stick your thumb into the actual hole and set your finger on fire! lol
TheSin 04-30-2009, 05:41 PM I agree with you on both cases it makes no sense that it's not working properly, it's a jumper so it should be able to fully emulate the ignition. Without changing the ignition, they should have the same options and functions and be able to over ride each other IMHO.
