To those who have had their Evos tuned what is the process in getting this done. Do you have to take it into a " Tuner Place" or do you send the chip in ? Thanks and forgive me if this seems a dumb question.

That all depends on what type of ECU setup you go with. Both are possible. Personally, I'm a HUGE advocate of taking it to a tuner shop to have it tuned for YOUR car.

^^ Not only that but what bolt-on's do you indend to install? How much WHP do you what. You have to also factor that in

From what I have gathered seems an intake is the way to go when starting out. Any recomendations ???

Thanks

You're better off doing the midpipe.

I have them for sale here:

This leads me to another question sorry, but how do you get something like the midpipe installed. LOL if I started taking my car apart I would never get it back together again. :imstupid:

It all depends on what you want to do with your car. I'm aiming for an extra 100 hp or so. This is my daily driver so I need to have descent mpg, but still want to satiate my obsession with fast cars. If your in a similar situation then here are my recommendations in order of what I'm doing.

Intake/Cone Filter/Drop-in Filter(Any of these works)
Upper IC Piping
MBC/Boost Gauge(Installing at the same time)
Full Catback Exhaust
ECU tune or piggyback(Accompanied by a tune at the local awd dyno)

That's about it. This should get the car in the area of 100 extra hp and shouldn't be too much more than $2000. It should definitley be enough to make a huge difference in the way your butt dyno reads while not depleting the bank account.

I like your plan!!

A hundred more horses sounds good to me. Thanks for the advice all... much appreciated.

Well, the general rule of thumb is let air out b4 u take more in. Typically the ideal situation is to do all upgrades at once, but if ur piecing together one thing at a time, start with cat back exhaust, then cat (or test pipe), then dropdown, then cams & gears, then any porting of heads/intake manifold & gasket, then any air intake stuff such as electronic or manual boost controller, CAI, and Upper/lower intercooler pipes, then ecu tuning after all other performance upgrades are complete. Also, if you plan to raise the redline, you should balance the pistons and the crank/connecting rods.

What is the overall hp gain of just doing an exhaust system? Also, how loud are they? I plan on tracking the car but want to also drive to work once in awhile so i don't want it to be obnoxious.

Sound... depends A LOT on what exhaust you get. A quick search on youtube will turn up some answers for you. Full exhaust is certainly going to be quite a bit louder then normal.. but hey... that's why you bought this monster, right?

some exhaust, such as some apexi models, have multi mode mufflers. ie. when not full throttle, exhaust is quite and as you'd expect from a sedan, but when full throttle, exhaust goes out un-muffled so to speak. This sounds like what you're looking for. You may want to do some research into that possibility.

yes.. butterfly valves is what most call them. The Audi Rs4 has one from the factory.. music to the ears.
