So I couldn't get into reverse for like two days. After driving a bit aggressively and letting the car cool down, it then would not let me get into reverse. It felt like literally something was physically not letting me get the shifter into the gate. This has happened before but never lasted this long.I brought it to the dealership and they pretty much told me I dont have a warrenty. Nice. On top of that they quoted me at $2,700 to get it fixed with out even telling me what the actual problem was... So yeah I told them I'll worry about the trans and you just do the regular maintenance. I go to pick up my car and try and put it into reverse and just like that, it gets into gear. I had to somewhat giggle it to get into the gate but after that it started to just glide in no problem. So now I ask, what is happening that is causing the car to completely lock me out of reverse? How do I solve this problem and should I really be worrying? Thanks in advance.

Maybe try a tranny fluid change?

Reverse is a combination of two forward gears. I'm no mechanic but I'd guess that you have some wear in your tranny and they are only meshing together when aligned correctly. You'll probably need it rebuilt by Shep or someone.

I assume you know the trick of shifting into 1st, 3rd, then reverse? For some reason running through the gate can unbind things.

as oddly it may sound, i installed twm ss w bushing and shift knob and solved the problem.

Seems logical

Whenever I have issue getting into reverse, I toss it into first, give it some gas and roll forwards an inch or so to move the gears in the trans., then back to reverse and it goes right in.

im going to order a short shifter with some bushings and see if that helps the problem. Any recommendations on what short shifter and what bushings to go with?

Kracka bought both the TWM and the Works and kept the Works. I have the TWM but not quite happy with it.

Not sure what the AMS bushings cost. You could check out Torque Solution. I love their driveshaft bushings and now they offer all kinds of bushings and engine mounts for the X.

This is what my shopping cart looks like. before i check out i wanna make sure i didnt buy two of the same product. Are these all the bushings i need?
