popdakebin 01-20-2011, 04:49 PM Is this for noobs or for "pro"? I want to do to the: April 8-10 El Toro ProSolo- El Toro, CA Airfield
blk-majik 01-20-2011, 04:57 PM Prosolo basically head-to-head autocross. Two cars run in two adjacent lanes setup in autox format. Like a dragrace with turns ;)

I don't think you have to do any special qualifying to participate. According to the rules (http://cms.scca.com/documents/Solo_Rules/2010_ProSolo_Rules.pdf):
20.6 – DRIVER ELIGIBILITY
Entry into a ProSoloŽ National Series event is limited to regular SCCAŽ members
meeting the requirements of Section 4 Drivers and Appendix H Junior Driver
Program of the SCCAŽ National SoloŽ Rules. Weekend Membership is allowed
at all ProSoloŽ Series events, except for the Championship Finale event which
requires an annual membership. ProSoloŽ Officials may waive the minimum age
for Formula Junior (FJ) drivers to accommodate the competition season if the
driver has substantial experience and/or training AND at least one (1) parent will
be significantly involved in overseeing their child’s competition activities. An FJ
driver should have the appropriate-age birthday within 90 days of the first (1st)
event entered to be considered for waiving of the minimum age.
Katya4me 01-20-2011, 05:03 PM You have to be an SCCA full member and pay for the event. Having said that it is full, but much quicker paced than a regular autox event. It is also a lot more spectator friendly. If you've done autox before, or plan to this year, give it a try. It's fun.
popdakebin 01-21-2011, 05:07 PM sounds great! thanks for the heads up. I think i'll try the solo first, haah.
MrAWD 02-11-2011, 05:19 PM ProSolo is way more fun then the Solo2! This gets even better if you bring AWD car to the event! I found it much easier to keep concentration for 30 sec instead of full 60. And, the adrenaline rush is much higher. At the end you get more seat time, especially if you qualify for the final event on Sunday afternoon!

drewgray 02-11-2011, 05:32 PM I agree the Pro Solo is a lot of fun, but it puts a fucking beating on your driveline. We were hot lapping the car essentially (2 drivers), and I didn't want that as the hard launches do add up quick. I think we counted 22 launches over 2 days (it was awhile ago, so I don't remember exactly).
MrAWD 02-11-2011, 05:42 PM Well, I in particular don't like drag racing because it is too much of unnecessary beating on the drive-train. But, in the case of the ProSolo, I didn't mind it at all and remember clearly that I have enjoyed it way more than anything else that was around, back in the days...
Not sure how did you make it with 22 launches since each driver gets 12 runs over the three sessions for day and a half. Plus, it is highly recommended to get there on Friday around 3 pm and do some practice launches which is usually 5-6 of those depending how much you need to work on it. Then if you qualify for the challenge runs you add two per each round you qualify. I think I was doing closer to that number all by my self back in days...long time ago...

drewgray 02-11-2011, 05:56 PM Ok then it was 24 launches not 22. Not really sure what you are saying or asking in the rest of it, but whatever. That is more launches you will ever do at a drag strip in a day or 2 or usually 3/4, so for you to say you don't like drag racing because of the unnecessary beating on the drive-train, I have no clue how you got anywhere close to justifying a pro-solo as it is the most drivetrain abusive event I have ever competed in by far.
MrAWD 02-11-2011, 06:10 PM I guess, all of the fun you get from doing so was worth it for me, unlike drag racing which I don't like...go figure...maybe because there all of the launches where with Hoosiers on either asphalt or concrete, which is nowhere near the grip you get at the drag strip. And then you have to shift only once after that in most cases...either way, that is how it was for me, and pretty much still is even though I had not done it in 9 years...

drewgray 02-11-2011, 09:01 PM The launch grip is not thaaat bad on hoosiers, but about equal to street tires at a drag strip. Still pulled 1.6x 60 foots.
MrAWD 02-11-2011, 09:27 PM For me, they where slightly off, but my Hoosiers where wider then my all season street tires all the time (225s for street vs 245s for Hoosiers). Even with that I was getting slightly better short times at the strip!
