Remove heat shield above muffler.

The heat shield is held in by (4) 10mm nuts. Remove those and slide heat shield out.

Add padding to rear deck cover

Remove rear deck cover by pulling rear pillar covers out. The pillar is held in by a single panel connector in the middle and a strap on the top. Just pull out enough to lift off rear cover. The rear cover is held in by (5) white panel pins underneath and (2) black ones on outside. Once removed, place more foam or padding to cover all plastic areas. Problem area in my car was at very back of panel near window. Below are pictures of pillar detached and rear panel with no modification.

Good thing you figure this out, I can get right to work this weekend,
So what did you end up doing with the heat shield? left it out, or Dyanamat it.

I left the heat shield out. The sound deadening I used was metal backed, so I figured it should be fine. That and my new exhaust should be here in the next week or so. The shield would be useless in that configuration. As thin as it is, not sure if it will offer anything though.

I did this exact thing yesterday and installed some tweeters as well. Lol, I also stuck some more sd material in the rear panel and so far no rattles. Sucks you have to pull the whole back seat out just to get to this panel. Anyway nice job on the write up. I am sure a lot of people will take this off in the future.

It would be nice to do this even with the stock setup. I know the
stock Sub still rattle the piss out of that rear deck, The question now would
be what's the best thing to do. Polyfill, Dynamat the plastic cover. Dynamat the rear deck
stuff some old T-shirt back there

I put a layer of 1" insulating foam similiar to what you would find in a packing material. I laid that accross the back behind the clips you have to take off. I can't hear it rattling anymore and it was a cheap fix for me. Im sure you could do some polyfill with similar results.

^^We are doing this because the rear deck rattles with alot of bass.
The trunk does rattle with alot of Bass, but after we have dynamated the trunk, The heat shield thats is in the outside of the car still rattles, that is why the removal of the heatshield.
