I was reading on the "other" forum that the diff pins in the 2010 are different than those used in the 2008 GSR. And the 2010 factory pins are the ones Shepp sells as an upgrade. Can anyone here confirm this?

For 50 bucks id rather be safe than Sorry. Mines a 2010 but it coulda been built in 2009. They did use a different type of material for the pins I heard but F it I bought some anyways

Ya, I hope so too. Person posted that be bought pins from shep and buschur and the shep are factory "updated" pins and only the Buschur pins are made of a hi grade steel that is chromed for lubricity. I was surprised because I was thinking of doing the pin swap later on. Probably still will when the clutch has to be replaced but go with the Buschur pins. google evo x diff pins and it was one of the top hits I think.

Doesn't matter. Doing just the pins has been proven NOT to fix the root issue of poor lubrication between the pins and gears. To do it right, there are several modifications which must be done.

Mind going further into detail? What other modifications? Where has it been proven not to fix the dowels/pins breaking? I just ordered my pins and will be ripping my transmission apart soon, so please tell so I can do these other things you mention. Thanks.

Read through all his Evo X articles. I also have an email explaining in depth what he does, but basically it's a very thorough service which guarantees long life without failure.

^Nothing is guaranteed to give long life, especially when modding for more power.

Seriously, I don't think most people realize this, almost all and I mean all, shep, TRE whatever, use a ton of OEM parts. They rarely replace anything with "stronger" components.

The strength comes from better assembly essentially. So you are getting a better, hand built OEM tranny/diff whatever.

I just did the buschur diff pins, time will tell if they hold up but so far so good.

Also, i beat the piss outta my stock motor/tranny. They pulled the tranny/diff apart to install the pins and looked it over and saw no signs of wear so they didn't replace/upgrade anything just reassembled it awesomely :)

I agree. I should have said "helps to guarantee..." Shit does happen. Jacks does do some parts modifications and upgrades though. And he is very patient with explaining how it all works and what they do.

Yea I read the whole article, it was a pretty good explanation.

However you will notice that many things in the article say how awesome the OEM parts are in the X tranny.

So as I stated, "most" of what he would do is replace parts with OEM parts with a few modified parts and the tranny would mostly be better to better assembly and fresh OEM parts.

that would be sick...but if you think bushur tacks on a bunch of shit, imagine what the stealerhip would do. just sayin.
