Looks like there are quite a bit of races coming very soon. I cant wait for this shit to start up. Funny thing, I am taking a trip to Cali in March and will be getting home on the 26th. Just in time for the 1st autox of the season. I guess I will have to make sure my car is ready to go before I leave. Get her all prettied up and trailered so when i come back I am ready to hit some cones
NHLFan3507 02-20-2011, 02:10 PM Is there an easy way to find out online where Auto-X events are at in an area?
hotdog 02-20-2011, 02:23 PM Google your state name + autocross, then drill down. Ohio, for example, is divided into several different regions, so you'd have to choose your region. Then visit their site, and look around.

Thanks hotdog, I'll check it out.

NASA and SCCA are 2 national clubs that run autoxes. You can also look for marque clubs that run autoxes like Corvette, BMWCCA and PCA run autoxes in many areas. You'll find with a Google search whether there are local clubs that run events as well. Generally, you'll get less runs with SCCA and NASA clubs, but a potentially higher level of competition, but it depends on the region.
cavasotti 02-20-2011, 03:01 PM I am interested in doing some autox this year along with some track days.. is there any special needs for these events? registrations, memberships, driving school etc? or we just show up at the day, register and run? I have been to one track day last year and it was really fun, so I will try to do that at least once a month.. what are the differences between the two?
Well generally, you can just show up to an autox. You get there, register, get your car inspected, then they go through the rules with you. They give you the short and skinny on how to autox ie... what to look for with the cone layout, safety shit etc.....Then they have a novice walk so that you can see the course and listen to someone with some experience explain the layout. There is plenty of time to walk the course before the event so you should have no problems there.
The day events are usually divided into separate run groups. For instance, half the people that show up do 3-5 runs in a row. Then they switch and the second half do their runs. When you are driving your car, the other drivers that are in the next run group are working. When you finish all of your alloted runs, then you are working at a station that was selected for you after the drivers meeting. Usually you run in the AM, take a lunch, then run in the PM. There are so many people that autox where I am at, that we usually have 3 run groups. It all really just depends on the region that you are running with though. I hope I covered most of what you should really need to know
cavasotti 02-20-2011, 03:35 PM thank you man!
what do you mean by "working" ?
You will get a corner assignment. Lets say they put you on corner 1. You basically stand there and watch the cars go by. If any of the cars hit a cone in that section, you run out there and shag that shit. Make sure you put it back in the marked lines and then go back to your spot. There should be enough people there that you dont have to shag all of the cones that get knocked over. Then there should be someone there with a radio and another with a red flag. The guy with the radio calls in the number of knocked down cones ie. 2 cones would be called in, "22 SM +2" 22 being the car number, SM being the class of car and +2 for the number of cones they hit. If they go the wrong way through that section, it would be "off course" and called in the same as cones. But instead of saying +2 you would replace that with "off course". Does this make sense? The dude with the red flag only flags when there is an unsafe condition on course. Once the red flag comes out (one at every station), the cars need to come to a complete stop till the unsafe condition no longer exists.
